LOL, ACC

Is this because of who the teams playing 8 have locked as usual OOC rival games?

BC-ND
Clemson-SCar
UNC-SCar
GT-GA
FSU-Fla

Trying to come up with any logical reason

They’ve also mandated you play 10 P4 games so may be part of it of who they’ve got scheduled there

Interesting long term strat

Starting in 2027, 16 teams will play a nine-game ACC schedule annually, with one team each season playing eight league games and scheduling two Power Four opponents outside the conference to accommodate the 10 Power Four games requirement.

Edit: appears done so that teams with prior commitments to already have 10 P4 games could still honor that and have their cupcakes. Don’t really see it as an issue given it’s a transition and these deals are made years out and no doubt would cost you a bunch in buyout money for a poorer conference

Outside of the tie breaker absurdity, am I the only one loving the downfall of clemson/fsu? I have a good buddy that is a clemson fan and I want to inject all of the Syracuse upsets into my veins.

I would have guessed that the teams playing only 8 games were also the 5 tied into playing Notre Dame as part of their quasi ACC arrangement. That doesn't seem to be the case though for all of them.

I'm sure this isn't going to lead to any sort of controversy at all at the end of the year when they are trying to sort out the standings.

ACC is a good basketball conference but it has become a joke in football.

They really aren't doing themselves any favors when it comes to being the mockery of the power conferences. The Big 12 had some major shakeups and navigated just fine. Why has the ACC been such a cluster of bad decisions?

It's simply a balancing act to get to 9+1 in 2027. Probably didn't want schools to have to buy out of scheduled games this close to 2026. It was already weird not having ND as a football member, but playing non-conference, having Virginia and NC State play a game that didn't count towards the standings, and now unbalanced in 2026.

Clemson already had LSU and S. Carolina on 2026 schedule.
Georgia Tech is playing 11 with Colorado, Tennessee and Georgia on schedule
Florida State already had Florida and Alabama on Schedule.
BC already with Cincinnati, Rutgers and Notre Dame
UNC with TCU and Notre Dame

The idea that a team having one less G5 opponent than they would prefer is a "problem" that needs to be solved is absurd.
