They’ve also mandated you play 10 P4 games so may be part of it of who they’ve got scheduled there
Interesting long term strat
Starting in 2027, 16 teams will play a nine-game ACC schedule annually, with one team each season playing eight league games and scheduling two Power Four opponents outside the conference to accommodate the 10 Power Four games requirement.
Edit: appears done so that teams with prior commitments to already have 10 P4 games could still honor that and have their cupcakes. Don’t really see it as an issue given it’s a transition and these deals are made years out and no doubt would cost you a bunch in buyout money for a poorer conference
