Lincoln Journal Star: lawsuit alleges cover-up of Nebraska football team sexual assaults

Canadian athletic departments do not offer full rides as is done here. Toronto would have to drop all sport affiliations with other Canadian schools. Not going to happen.
I agree with this.

Toronto is a world powerhouse academic/research school, but realistically it's the same odds as adding UChicago back or adding Johns Hopkins as a full DI member.

Note that may sound weird to say as JH does play DI lacrosse in the Big Ten. But I believe they are grandfathered in and DIII schools are no longer allowed to play one DI sport outside of the revenue sports.

Update: https://www.espn.com/college-sports...-mishandled-reports-sexual-assault-harassment

A former Nebraska volleyball player is among nine women who filed a lawsuit Monday against the University of Nebraska, alleging that the school mishandled complaints of sexual assault and harassment, including reports involving accusations against at least five athletes.

The lawsuit filed Monday in the U.S. District Court for the District of Nebraska alleges violations under the Title IX gender equity law, as well as racial discrimination, negligence and lack of due process. The lawsuit also alleges that school officials made errors in their investigations of some of the women's reports and did not provide academic help.

The lawsuit states that the university "handled sexual misconduct complaints against student-athletes in a different manner than how other complaints were handled."

One of the women named in the lawsuit filed Monday is former Nebraska volleyball player Capri Davis, who also was part of a lawsuit filed in April against the NCAA. In that action, seven women, including two other female athletes, alleged that the NCAA failed to protect them from alleged sexual assaults by male college athletes, despite having an obligation to do so. That case was refiled in a Michigan state court in May.

Davis played for Nebraska's top-10-ranked volleyball team until last fall, when she took a medical leave of absence and transferred to play at Texas. According to both complaints, the school's handling of a false rumor that she was pregnant with the child of a football player, as well as a report that she was groped at a party, led her to transfer.

In both complaints, Davis says that two Nebraska football players grabbed her buttocks at a party and did the same to a friend, who is also a plaintiff in both lawsuits. The report was made in April 2019 to the school's Title IX office that investigates sexual misconduct. In December, the school's Title IX office found the players not responsible for the alleged groping incident involving Davis and her friend, according to the complaint.

Nebraska tried to cover this up and bury it. Disgusting.

It won't happen -- but if I was in charge, I would use this to expel Nebraska from the conference. They don't belong, they never belonged. They're not one of us.

I do not like NE but their sexual assault violations are not as bad as happened at MSU or tOSU by team physicians at those two plus players at MSU.
I believe there were some rumblings of problems at MI also with a team physician.

It’s not the act, it’s the cover up, that proves Nebraska is unfit for continued membership.

Did a Nebraska alum sleep with your wife or something? Curious but did you graduate from Minnesota?
That of course doesn’t make sense, because Nebraska alums don’t move to the Twin Cities after graduation. Or Chicago, DC, or NYC.

They aren’t Big Ten. They’re Big XII.

Did you graduate from Minnesota? Always curious on the educational backgrounds of those who talk academic smack talk in regards to sports.

The Association of American Universities bitch slapped Nebraska already. I’ll let that speak for itself.

it’s a simple question you keep avoiding. I’ll take that to mean you didn’t attend Minnesota? Did you attend a university at all?

Who cares whether/if he went to school at Minnesota? I did, and I will second his motion to throw worthless Nebraska out of the B1G. Delaney made some terrible plays at the end; acquiring NE, Rutgers, and MD were three of them.

Like it or not probably the smartest, most savvy and lucrative move among the big conferences, period. Nebby will not always be average in football. Maryland made B1G basketball even better. Rutgers gives access to NY market. Top to bottom the best college sports conference.

Nebraska will be Illinois in football going forward.

Licky to win one West title in 20 years. Pathetic

Keep making up whatever you want to make up.

What a lame attempt...a wife shot. Not surprised though.
It wasn’t a shot at your wife.

Believe it or not, smart/good looking people are born in awful places, and get out. Onward and upward to elsewhere with much higher quality of life.

It’s not like I asked if she was from Iowa. ;)

Missouri would have been a better member of the Big Ten. They are accredited (which Nebraska never was) and Missouri just seemed a 'better-fit' to the Big Ten footprint. What's your thoughts on this?

At the time I thought Nebraska was a good fit as to name recognition etc. I didn't pay any attention to their academics, culture etc., except couldn't help but notice that the fans love their football team. Didn't happen so currently not interested in rehashing something out of the air with no clear conclusion in the end.

They were a far better fit than Rutgers or Maryland. Arguably Penn State even.

Damn. I’d say the Big sold out for TV money, but at the same time, it’s not like this sort of thing hasn’t happened at more traditional Big Ten schools. Football “powerhouses” tend to be riddled with... problems. Of course you’ll have coverups where football becomes, at the end of the day, a bloated institution’s investment strategy.

Maryland and yes, Rutgers, will help the conf in bball. Maryland obviously already has. Rutgers is up and coming, they just need a renovation or new arena. Building a ton of support facilities. Great b-ball market. They’re Purdue and Illinois in football, for the East powers. Is what it is. Great markets in both.

Nebraska provides nothing.

According to many MN fans NE brings the sweetest, nicest and the most knowledgable fans in the BIG.
Going to Lincoln for a game is nirvana.

I haven’t been to a game there, but I have browsed their boards. Reminds me of 4chan, but replace Q with Frost.

'rehashing something out of the air'....?
