Not at all. There is ALWAYS a place for great SG on championship teams.

Maybe you've never seen one. I have.

Yup which is exactly why teams like Duke, North Carolina, Kansas, and Kentucky are all over this kid. Oh wait, they're not. Just because someone is supposedly a great shooter doesn't mean they have a place on any team. Unless you are the single greatest shooter of all time, you need to have at least a couple other serviceable qualities if you want to play on a high-major basketball team. Maybe this kid from Florida is a great shooter, but that doesn't mean we need to offer him. I would much, much, much rather get Andre Hollins.

Steve Kerr was recruited by exactly one BCS-type team (Arizona). He visited Gonzaga (in 1984) but the Zags said No, Thanks.

One team (Georgia) offered Cameron Mills.

Not saying Keel will or should be offered.

Josh has already informed the Minnesota coaches he is not coming here.

Not a bad loss. Saw him play twice against MN Pump & Run. Didn't look very impressive in either game. IMO he'll a solid roll player but definitely not an impact player. We can do better.

NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. ONLY IOWA FOT. kidding, kinda, not really. Hollins please? Tharpe please? and if not i hope to god we hold the schooly for next year, no more late D2 level signings.

Please god, do not let this happen. My gut is telling me that we will land Hollins. Tharpe comes here if he wants to start instantaneously, but the alure of a Kansas could stroke his ego so it's looking tough right now.

FOT is right, there is sometimes room for a shooting specialist on a team. I personally question whether the Gophers are talented enough to be able to correctly use such a player right now. If you've got guys that demand double teams (and you can protect the rim on the defensive side), a pure shooter can be invaluable in spreading the floor. I didn't find his examples useless at all, I just question whether a Cameron Mills type would be as effective on the Gophers, as they are currently constructed, as he was at Kentucky.

Mills Never Played At UK Until Derek Anderson Got Hurt

He only succeeded when he got a chance to play in second half of 97 and all of 98 seasons.

I think Keel will earn Div I scholarship somewhere.

I agree that the Gophers could use a shooting specialist, but that shooting specialist has to at least be competent in other areas otherwise he will just be a liability. There are plenty of great shooters who are playing D2 and even D3 basketball, and there is good reason that many of them are there and not on a high-major D1 team. It takes a little more than just simply being able to make a three pointer when no one is defending you.

I've never seen Keel play, so I obviously don't know for sure if he is good enough to play for the Gophers or not, but based off of what I've read and just looking at his offers at this point, I'm just not confident that he is. I would much rather just get one of our top targets in Naadir Tharpe and/or Andre Hollins and not have to worry about it.

Of course, anybody would prefer Hollins and/or Tharpe. No one said anything different.

Keel is an outstanding shooter who will get a Div I scholarship and lots of notice playing alongside the #1 guard in the USA (Austin Rivers) at Winter Park FL this season.

It's official now, he's a Hawkeye. Hollins and/or Tharpe are must gets now.

Updated your post for ya.

Agree 100%. Need players who can drive and dish or command doubles down low to use a player like that. Blake on Kentucky last year could have been a legend with all the open looks he could have had with Wall driving and Cousins kicking out to him...

Much ado about nothing

The Hawks will get a slap on the wrist.

Think this is what everyone thought would happen. As above poster indicated - slow news day.

Good. I, for one, beleive that McCaffery will be a solid addition to the Iowa program and to the Big Ten and would hate for him to get off to a rocky start w/ the NCAA. He's got enough of a challenge in rebuilding that program. Good luck to you Hawkeyes. Except when you're going against the Gophers.
