Koi Perich Transfer Portal

Fanbase angry and hurt that a star player is leaving for another program.

That's a normal and expected reaction, I would think.

There very well could be some kind of mess behind the scenes, but so far no one has suggested what it could be.
I think PJ not allowing Perich to speak with the media all season was probably an indication that things weren't very "tidy" behind the scenes, don't you?

The absolute silence about the transfer from everyone around the program is deafening.

The first sentence is true?? That's just ... weird, if so. I did not know that.

Both of these sentences just point to that PJ Fleck is a control freak with a massive ego. Perhaps that is the mess.

I think in previous transfers, Fleck has had the same militant forcing of a "we shall not talk about that" attitude, hasn't he?

Sounds pretty "messy" to me:

"He was marketed as a homegrown star; he played into it, and it's now all gone seemingly overnight. The social media reaction in Minnesota has not been kind to Perich. Popular accounts like Barstool Gophers have made fun of the former hometown hero, and many of the comments have gotten very negative."
Not to agree with Minneapolis Gopher, but it sounds more like people's reaction was the messy part, not him transferring.

Simple nothing-burger article by Liebert to get some clicks.

What transfers has he/the program talked about? I think he said something about Bucky and how he respects him helping his mom, but that was when this whole thing was new and no one had an understanding of it all yet.

Not trying to argue, I just don't recall him talking about players when they leave, but I could be forgetting.

Did you not even read the article before deciding to criticizing it?

"Despite being one of the most recognizable athletes in the state, the team rarely made Perich available to the media during the 2025 season, if at all."

Tell your wife I say "hello", Mr. Perich.

Noting more impressive than a college coach that airs all of the dirty laundry and criticizes their players in the media, am I right?

Thanks for your crucial input on the matter.

Never said Fleck had a history of doing so...I said from "everyone involved" including coaches, current players, family and Koi himself.

It's not as if social media is good at keeping secrets...but whatever.

Successful coaches have ego and oversee control of their program and the messaging going in and out to maintain stability and structure.

Why would the program give any attention to someone who is no longer in it? The focus is next season and the kids who want to be here. The people bitching about there not being a story or messaging from the staff/players only gripe because they want their own beliefs about why dipshit left validated, and when they don't get an answer, they make comments like Fleck is a "control freak with a massive ego" and "militant" because they're upset about how the program is effectively navigating controversy and not getting drawn into media or fan speculation by commenting on it.

For an array of reasons we'll never quite know until he or the team speaks up, Perich is no longer here. He's no longer relevant. It's Kerry Brown time.

BTW this is devolving into the weird "why hasn't Ben Johnson commented yet" thread on the MBB board.

You aren't forgetting. Fleck has been very consistent in not talking about guys who go into the portal.

I know Koi and Drake filled in on one of PJ’s
Weekly radio shows when he was out on the road, so they must not have been completely hiding him. From listening to that show I do get the sense that Koi isn’t the most personable/outgoing young man. Nothing at all wrong with that but I would be surprised if Koi really wanted a lot of media time.

Very well could be the case.

I really don't give a poop about what becomes of Perich since the transfer...just posted a Gopher football opinion article I thought some might find interesting to read.

I did not read that line. I read a lot of other lines.

Who said anything about airing all dirty laundry and criticizing players? That's a 10. You were just complaining that Fleck is a 0.

Is there any room for anything inbetween?

Oh wait, it's an internet message board ... only 0 or 10 are ever allowed.

I think there is plenty of room to make a small statement about it, including thanking Perich for coming to Minnesota and busting his rear end for the program, including being a face for the program (talking about positive marketing) and showing that top ranked players do in fact choose Minnesota.

And then move on.

Is that not reasonable? I think it is and I bet most others do too.

I posted an article that you admittedly didn't even bother to read thoroughly before criticizing it. And somehow you've come to the conclusion that I'm the one stifling opinions on an anonymous message board?

They walk among us, folks.

I see that you specifically ducked the question.

Fleck is a 0. No one said anything in the slightest about wanting a 10.

Is a 2 allowed? Is a 4 allowed?

Ironic considering you and your 15 previous monikers get so dug in on a topic, real or imaginary, until you inevitably get banned.

How does one go about "ducking" a question that was never asked or even remotely petitioned?

One bowl of Fruit Loops in the morning is quite enough for this guy. Carry on, freedom warrior.

The only thing that keeps 'em funny is one poster choosing to engage with Gophers4Life/Gophers4Lyfe/MplsGopher/GopherGrit for a few pages and then someone else cuts in and has a turn at it, then someone else, etc.

Maybe this can get to that level of the thread about whether or not Shaka Smart is coming here, from like almost 15 years ago.

Do you really think we dont know who you are?

How are you managing now that your hero Matt Simon is gone?
This is bizarre.

I'm going to chalk it up to some kind of weird inside joke amongst the old heads on here

I'll ask for a third and final time. Please note, questions typically are sentences that end with question marks.

Is there any room for anything inbetween?

Even though it was already clear the previous two times, I'll also reframe the question:

Is it valid that other coaches might say more than nothing about a star player who leaves and should Fleck consider adjusting his attitude on the matter?

I think there is plenty of room to make a small statement about it, including thanking Perich for coming to Minnesota and busting his rear end for the program, including being a face for the program (talking about positive marketing) and showing that top ranked players do in fact choose Minnesota.

Fleck could make a token statement about Koi, and Koi could put out a token tweet about his love for the U......both would be pointless.

Fleck doesn't talk about guys who transfer, he has been very consistent with that. Shouldn't treat Koi any different.

Vehemently disagree that they would be pointless.

You're free to feel that way but that's going too far, for me.

As I said, it's possible for things to live in the middle and it's possible for multiple things to be true at the same time.

The internet viciously tries to not allow that, but that's how things usually are in the real world.

This - I don't think Koi is comfortable doing a lot of media stuff.
