I wonder if Koi's performance last season had to do with a significantly different lineup on D and a Havoc scheme that created lots of Havoc in the Gophers performance.

As I said earlier, don't hate the player, hate the game. I don't wish injury or pain on anyone, let alone a kid who came and gave his all for two years here. I wish him well at Oregon.

Lastly, I would just add that I'm pretty sure the tax rate in Minnesota was what drove him away. Nothing else.

I've had the same thought. There was a change in scheme and the CB play was down and that might have contributed to the perception that Perich was worse this year.

I'm more inclined to believe the defense sucked because Koi chose to play out of position to try to make splash plays and left his teammates stranded

Given that their personal income tax rates are roughly equal (Oregon's is actually slightly higher, according to AI, so, take that with a grain of salt), it was, in fact, a joke.

Made all the more humor-inducing for me, in that it fit in with the wildly erroneous takes on taxes earlier in this thread (not all of it, but there were some real doosies mixed in).

Not just according to AI. In actual point of fact, Oregon is one of the few states in America that has income tax rates higher than Minnesota's. Oregon, on the other hand has no state sales tax.

That had less to do with me not believing that and more to do with the fact I don't trust AI - I've gotten way too many erroneous "facts" from AI Chatbots to trust it. It is good at locating sources to find the right information, however.
 

I am sure MN. Did not want to lose Koi. That being said I don't think a team like MN. Can afford to keep a player like Koi. You have a limited amount of money to spend. You can't afford a ton of money going to a safety. Safety would be near last place if I was going to prioritize which group of players deserve the most money. I think this is a net positive. Spend money on QB, OL, DL, you name it but not a safety.
 



Transfer to Oregon or Iowa or Wisconsin. What the hell difference does it make? He is a quitter, he quit on the Gophers. Good riddance
 


Now I remember. Yes, Bucky Irving left and a few of us said the best rb just left and then it was back and forth about Mo and some other rbs. In the end, Bucky proved to be the best of the lot. Koi is the best safety we had and he is gone.

Bucky was the best NFL RB. I don't think he was the best for how/how much we used running backs. It's completely fair to say Mo was the best for us.
 

Wow, Koi left, who knew?

When he was recruited Ohio State was rumored to have made a strong push for him, if true, they no doubt had recently printed dollars in both hands.

Now, two years later, Dan Lanning shows up with recently printed dollars and Koi moves on to Oregon. Does it strike anyone odd but me that Ryan Day didn't offer Koi the required dough to bring him to Ohio State?

Minnesota got wiped out by both teams so each of them had an up close and personal look at Koi. Now Dan Lanning is reputed to be a good football coach but with all that talent he has ended up just like our Gophers, at home for the final game. Ryan Day has won a championship and although his teams befuddled me at times, he is a winner.

We're going to find out why Minnesota didn't extend Koi more money, and we're going to find out why Ohio State didn't want him.

The game has changed for all of us though. I used to wish the best for people because they were "Gophers". It's all professional sports now. I wish the best for him in the same way I wish for the best for Sam Darnold.

I hope he doesn't get hurt and he has a long a prosperous life. I also wish him zero success on the football field unless it's against Iowa, Wisconsin, or an SEC school. Other than that, he's the same to me as any other player on Oregon. F em.
 

He feels like he's sitting at the head of a 2nd rate lunch table and was invited over to sit near the corner of the cool kids' over-crowded lunch table. He'll have to rest his lunch tray on his lap though because there's not enough table surface left for him to use.
 


The more I hear about this transfer in the post-mortem, the more I think his departure will be a net positive for the program.

People trying to be kind by calling him the most unique player they’ve ever covered, saying PJ bent over backwards to keep Koi happy, etc.

No player is bigger than the team and it seems like it was borderline whether that’s how he was treated last year.

Among the massive logic fails in this doozy rests this: by this logic, Ryan Day is also just like our Gophers...at home for the final game.
