Koi Perich Transfer Portal

This is BULLSHIT! These numbers are all made up. There has never been anything on paper that backs this up. SHOW ME! ANONYMITY proves nothing.
Give me something...something, that a QB is making $1-4 million dollars. You can't tell me that there hasn't been a leak somewhere that these numbers are true.
This is BULLSHIT. Show me the proof those numbers aren't real.

I'm waiting. Where's your proof that they aren't real?????

Oh, that's right. You have no proof - you just come here to bi!ch about it.

Texas Tech is also an interesting choice when considering they got smoked by Oregon just like we did. Tech definitely had a better season than we did but in the always tricky comparison of same opponents the gap between tech and Minnesota seems to be much closer than the gap between Tech and Oregon/Indiana etc

If true that Definitely signals to me the top priority is $$$$

Not necessarily

Do you got to Texas tech for 800k and a starting job + PR?

Or Ohio state for 900k to be the third safety?

Not saying those are his options. But to me Texas tech says more about level of play than money. Other teams can match techs money

I would agree it’s definitely money and playing time over blue blood
But we already knew that because he played for the gophers

If Miami wins this week, then their season ends after the portal closes.

No way Miami loses to Ole Miss with 4 of their assistants dropping out this week...unless Stetson plays like crap and Chambliss plays great...OK, it's possible Miami loses this week.

Honestly, Miami could make sense if the $$ are offered. They have an All American safety leaving and a stud true freshman. They have a couple very highly rated HS safeties coming in, but Perich could provide a 1-2 year bridge.

It might be due to chance alone, but if this is the case at least he will have gone out of conference. It would feel slightly less backstabby.

Texas Tech also seems to be the king of mercenary teams. If you're leaving anyway, go take that foolish man's money.
If the money is close Coral Gables vs Lubbock doesn't seem like a close call

Was 80's SMU playing college football? Or the entire SW conference or more recently SEC? Money and paying players has been in CFB for a long time
SMU was an isolated incident and there was always the chance that the NCAA would assess penalties for others caught cheating (see tOSU). What is going on now is entirely different with the mass movement of players and the formal framework that the NIL provides that simply didn't exist during that era. I'm not going to toss ad hominems, but I can't see how you don't see the current situation as being markedly different. What is going on now is system-wide and it's an entirely new paradigm.

Does that mean you can’t enter the portal or you can’t sign with anyone?? Or both.
The CFP teams get an extended period of (Jan 20-25) for portal signings. But they can still have players enter or sign right now. I have noticed that neither Miami or Oregon has announced ANY portal leavings or signings - it's clear they plan to wait until their season officially ends.

With silence on Koi's part coupled with the Gophers recent signings, I would completely expect that Koi will sign with Miami as soon as their season ends.

I approve of Koi going to Texas Tech. If that doesn't work out, BYU seems to be a big hitter these days. Either way, Lubbock and Provo are very similar to Esko.

The athletic just did a story on this here is the info

How much do college football transfers earn in the NIL and revenue-sharing era? - The Athletic

“To get an idea of what this year’s portal market looks like, The Athletic surveyed industry experts, including general managers, personnel staffers and agents, on the ranges of compensation that transfers receive. All subjects were granted anonymity for their candor.”

Here is the headline:

  • QB range: $1 million to $4 million, but potentially higher for the top players
    • his portal cycle, it appears prices are going up. The floor for a Power 4 starter, in most cases, is $1 million. “If you don’t spend a million, you ain’t getting ’em,” one Power 4 GM said.
  • OT range: $600,000 to $1.3 million
  • Edge rushers: $500,000 to $2 million
  • Interior DL: $500,000 to $1.5 million
  • RB range: $400,000 to $900,000
  • WR range: $500,000 to $1 million
  • TE range: $300,000 to $900,000
  • Cornerbacks: $250,000 to $1 million
  • Safeties: $250,000 to $900,000
  • Linebackers: $200,000 to $750,000
  • Interior OL: $200,000 to $700,000

“While Power 4 programs’ football roster budgets can range from $13 million up to $30 million, G5 schools mostly ranged between $1 million and $10 million in 2025.“

A lot more detail in there for each category. Interesting safeties are towards the bottom.
If these are anywhere near accurate and the Gophers were spending more than $1 million on Koi, they had far too much money allocated to a position that CFB obviously doesn’t value that highly.

Texas Tech definitely seems like one of the teams tossing a lot of money around to buy players but they also play in the weaker Big 12 and made the CFP so could be a cash grab plus a chance to potentially play for a National Title were Koi to end up there.

I doubt Stetson Bennett is starting instead of Carson Beck for Miami this week, but the portal is pretty crazy. ;)

Where would Texas Tech finished if they had been in the B1G this past season? Illinois-ish?

My bad, was thinking of Caleb Downs at Safety, not Tate.
What? They play different positions, and Ohio State still has roster spots even without Tate leaving, which was all but a certainty. It looks like it'll be Miami or Ohio State, anyone else would be a shock but that's what it looked like from day 1.

In my opinion, anywhere from 4th to 12th depending on schedule

I don’t think they beat Oregon, Indiana, or Ohio state.

Play 50-50 games with USC, Illinois, Michigan, Iowa.

Play 65-35 games with Mn, Ne, WA, NU, PSU

Oregon beat them 23-0 and Oregon probably left 21+ points on the table.
Now part of that was tech D being good but

I think they’re a 6-3 or 5-4 team with a normal big ten schedule.
Could be 4-5 with a Wisconsin schedule. Could be 8-1 with an Ohio state schedule and winning the close games

Tough to say but based on how they looked against Oregon probably safe to say they would have finished below the Indiana, Ohio State, Oregon trio for sure.

Upper half for sure. Upper third likely. I wasn't impressed with their QB at all. Sorsby is heading there (he's had an interesting collegiate journey and it will be a hoot if Indiana and Texas Tech end up playing each other in next year's CFB) so their offense may take a big step forward.

My daughter went to Tech. It can be a fun place to play. The fans are fanatical. Having said that a large portion of the student fans that attend are a bunch of racist redneck goobers. I recall several incidents where opponents complained of racial taunts coming from the stands. The best thing about her graduation was never having to visit Lubbock, also known as dustbowl USA, again.

SMU was NOT an isolated incident. If you believe that, you're terribly naive. They got the death penalty because they were seemingly unable to keep it hidden and got caught with their hand in the cookie jar multiple times.

The entire SWC, with the exception of Rice, were under some sort of sanctions at one point or another for football. And I've mentioned many times that UCLA basketball players were being paid by a bag man through pretty much Wooden's entire tenure.
