More than Rick Upchurch? He played in 73 & 74. The SID should be blasting this info out online, if what they said on TV about Koi was accurate.

In his two seasons with the Gophers, Upchurch rushed for 1,783 yards, caught 18 passes for 242 yards, and scored 18 offensive touchdowns. He averaged 6.1 yards per carry and also set a school record for return yards in a season with 305. He was enshrined in Minnesota's athletic hall of fame in 2001.[2][3]

Neither the stats from the U or Sports Reference breaks out his return yards by type.

I agree. When that happens he will become a tackling machine in addition to being a ball hawk. His style of play reminds me of the great Paul Krause right now.

Audio setup at UCLA was weird. Not as big an issue the week before. Funny seeing a true freshman in the interview room, you can really see the difference between how he answers questions as compared to a guy like Jah Joyner or Lindenberg.

Probably never. Freshman weren't allowed to play on the varsity before 1972. I can't remember any player from the Arrowhead Region ever starting for the Gophers since that time. The only player I remember starting for the Gophers since 1960 is Chet Anderson from Duluth Central who played tight end in the mid-1960's. Pathetic as it is - I think that's it. The last time any football player from Northeastern Minnesota mattered played for the Duluth Eskimos pro team in the 1920's.

Just pulled up the replay to see. Receiver at top (who caught pass) was 1 1/2 yards off LOS. What us rule on that? Within 1 yard, 1/2 yard? Curious.

Did he ask the ref if he was on the line? That’s typically how it goes — turn to the ref, signal you intend to be on the LOS, and you get a yes or no. If he didn’t and was 1.5 yards off, then it absolutely should’ve been a penalty.

Supposed to be within 1 us of the LOS to be considered on the line. Like MGGopher said, you usually just tell the ref you're on or off and they adjust you if need be.

They had five off the line. Top WR was too far off the line. Probably nit picking but they had 5 in the backfield. QB, RB, two wing backs and top receiver. He likely told official he was on the line. One could argue that our RT is off the line often.

Decker wasn't the gopher's top commit. They had one more scholarship available and decided to offer him at the end of the recruiting cycle. If the Gophers hadn't offered, he was going to St. Johns.

Koi was on the Gopher podcast last week and talked about losing to Pequot Lakes in basketball every year and gave them a "shout out" before saying he really can't stand them as their rival. He complimented their game plan in basketball.

Who was the solid defensive lineman from Grand Rapids not all that long ago? 4 year letter winner.... 1979-1982. Kevin Kellin. Made an NFL roster too.

I don't have the answer to your question but Grand Rapids is on the Iron Range and not in the Arrowhead Region of Northeastern Minnesota which "old man" was asking about.

We, on the Iron Range consider ourselves to be in the "Arrowhead" Region.... we consider GR the western most Iron Range city AND an Arrowhead city ...same with Eveleth, Virginia, Hibbing, etc......

If you consider the Arrowhead to be "only" the true triangle bordered by Lake Superior and a straight line running north / south from Duluth shaping the arrowhead, Esko wouldn't be in there either.

Cloquet and its surrounding suburbs (including Esko) serve as the gateway to both the arrowhead and iron range whilst not technically being geographically located in either.

Koi definitely has that level of IT. Every time he touches the ball or gets near it, you feel like he's going to do something special. I need to get myself a Koi jersey
