Kill should be the coach

If after all this time we end up with kill I will be truly disappointed as we went the c level.

Much rather have Kill than Leech. No confirmation yet if Kill locked a kid in a shed.

You and I would have locked the Little James in the shed...I am just not sure Leach locked him in the shed.

C level? He's every bit as good as Sumlin, Hoke, or Calhoun who are on everyone's B list.

I don't care if he did. Nor do I care if Leach did.

If the idea is to make another 'safe' hire that won't piss anyone off, who will be dominated by the current and future AD, but won't recruit the necessary athletes to win, won't win enough games to matter, won't fill the stadium, and will result in another buyout a few years down the road, then by all means, hire Kill.

If the idea is to instantly put Gopher football back on the map, be relavant in the Big 10 in a couple years, and fill the stadium, then give Mullen 24 hours to accept. If he doesn't, Leach is out recruiting as the new coach 24 hours after that. Done.

That's your opinion-I just don't want Kill because I don't think he can recruit and coach on the Big Ten level. Think what you want but I think it would be a terrible hire. It's not a long term solution.

What makes you think he can't coach at the Big Ten level? He's won everywhere he has been. He has beaten Big Ten teams. I can't see any reasons why you believe he doesn't have the ability. If you want to question his recruiting, that's fine but not his coaching.

What makes you think that?

I guess I see things opposite as you. I see Kill as a long term solution and a guy like Leach or Mullen as more likely to be a short term solution.

What makes you think he can win over a long season in the Big Ten-one win this season over the Gophers doesn't prove anything. Didn't they lose to an average Illinois team this year? What makes you think he can recruit Big Ten Level players? I just don't think he is a long term solution.

Peace-Go Gophers

Miami just scored late-nice defense NI

Kills team loses this Championship game..............................Whats up with that? Looks like a perfect Gopher candidate........

Big Ten teams should beat MAC teams every time. They have many more advantages than a team from the MAC. Yeah, NIU lost to Illinois which should be no suprise by 6 points. NIU beat our Gophers this year and Purdue last year. They also barely lost to Wisconsin last year. The guy can coach. Like I said, he may need some help recruiting but definitely not coaching.

I don't think anyone is basing their evaluation of Kill solely on the win over the Gophers. That would be extremely short sighted. If you look at his whole body of work it is clear that the man knows how to coach a football team.

Look at the whole body of work. And bummer, now Kill is down to a career .642 winning percentage. Took a freak tip for Miami to score and people are bashing him still? Get off it he'd be a great choice, if we don't pick him up Illinois will when they sack Zook next season.

Jerry's got another year to look forward to in Dekalb. Should've told his boys to knock that pass down.

If Maturi bases a hire on just one game, he is more incompetent then we thought.

jerry Kill can take over for Bob Stoops when he becomes the next Gopher coach.

I still have a hard time believing there are people advocating Jerry Kill.

Sheesh...how low have the expectations gotten? Should we announce the application for admission to the MAC at the Kill hiring press conference?

To some degree Kill would be a better choice then Hoke and Golden. More wins over a longer period of time.

(And yes I wish Leach was coming)

Just out of curiosity, who do you think we should hire?

I already posted my idea in this thread.

Offer Mullen the job, he has 24 hours to say yes. If he doesn't, Leach is out recruiting as the new coach 24 hours after that.

This was supposed to be a 'Tubby hire,' right? Isn't that what Maturi said? And for once in his life, he was right. The program needs an immediate jolt.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't equate hiring Jerry Kill away from a MAC school as a "Tubby hire."

Then Please tell the Idiot conducting the search to give Leach an interview.

That's a fair take, thanks.

JM has set an expectation with his "Tubby hire" comment that he cannot meet. Again, he is way over matched for this job. Uggghhhhhh

We're not getting Leach. End of story.

Sadly, I think you're most likely correct.

Maturi will fly around the country for 2 months, get the cold shoulder from the "A" list, a few nibbles but no bites from the "B" list, and settle for something from the "C" list...without even interviewing the guy who would solve this problem.

And we'll all be back here in 2014 arguing about who the next AD is going to hire to turn around the sagging football program.

But we could. I think that's USAF's point.
Maturi and Bruininks have already stated they don't want a guy with baggage. If they had balls they would hire Leach. Leach not being contacted at all at this point tells me, he has no shot.
