Kicking Situation

I've been wondering the same. Trickett wasn't a "big leg" guy, but he delivered in the clutch more often than not, in my opinion.

Place kicker isn't really very important... until it is. Then it becomes crucial.
Oh...it's important! Hope we have someone as good or better than Trickett.

Kesich and Crawford both have eligibility left so would think they would be back as Kickoff Specialist and Punter.

Jacob Lewis is on the roster and came over from Ball State. He was pretty successful during his time in the MAC so would think he would be the guy most likely.

No other kicker listed on the roster right now but wouldn't shock me to see us snag another transfer at some point.

Caleb McGrath out of Eastview HS is a preferred walk-on punter. Just was at Under Armour All American game. Dad is from Australia and pitched for the Gophers. Mom is a Shudlick from Apple Valley. Two of the Shudlick girls played hoops for Gophs, two played vb. Aunt Carol Ann in Gopher HOF. She had career scoring record when she finished.

Can't punt without a long snapper...how are we doing there me wonders?

Great pedigree athletically and otherwise. Shudlicks are great people through multiple generations. I’m pretty sure Carol Ann won the Wade Trophy the womens basketball version of the Heisman.

Kesich will be the FG kicker and Crawford will be the punter in 2023.

Agree with this. Why he wasn't already kicking field goals is a PJ mystery.
Is it really a mystery though? Couldn't it just be as simple as Trickett was better or does there have to be some sort of grand conspiracy?

Spent two seasons (2020-21) at Ball State, appearing in 19 games and scoring 45 points by making 12-of-16 field goals and 9-of-11 on PATs • served as the team's primary kickoff specialist in 2021 and split field goal duties • converted 10-of-13 field goal tries to rank fourth in the MAC for percentage made (.769) • also went 1-of-2 on extra points and produced 13 touchbacks on 41 kickoffs • had four games with two field goals made during the season • in 2020, appeared in all eight games as the Cardinals’ kickoff specialist and was the team’s long field goal specialist until the final two games of the season when he handled all kicks • recorded 13 touchbacks, the most for BSU since 2015, on 52 kickoffs • went 2-of-3 on field goal attempts and 8-of-9 on extra points • connected on a career-long 51-yard field goal in the win over Eastern Michigan • also made a 22-yarder in the MAC Championship Game victory over Buffalo

Maybe because Trickett was better? Just because you can kick kickoffs out the back of the endzone doesn't mean you can consistently/accurately hit field goals.
lol...didn't notice your post before I said basically the exact same thing. Always love when people go hunting for something nefarious or bigger than the simple and obvious explanation which would be that Trickett was the best field goal kicker on the roster so he was the one who did it. Shocking.

When I've watched Kesich kick in warmups, his FG attempts come out really low. He's got a crazy strong leg and really drives the ball, but from what I've seen, they would be very susceptible to being blocked.

Trickett was a really underrated aspect of the team this year. I'm sure Lewis will get the first shot if they don't bring in someone else.

A secret lab on the Ag campus is working on a Chip Lohmiller-Rhys Lloyd hybrid.

There is some uncertainty, though, about the potential eligibility of a University-created, lab-grown 1-year old athlete.
That's light years away. This is as far as things have gotten on the St. Paul campus...
