A fair question: Who are these Gophers?

Are they the group that was 3-0 in the conference before losing to Illinois? Are they team that came out flat against Purdue and followed that up with a brutal loss? Are they the collection that ran Iowa off the field and got four touchdown passes from Mitch Leidner?

The feeling among neutral observers is going to be that the Gophers haven't beaten a good team this season and they lost to a terrible one.

That feeling can be turned upside down on Saturday when the Gophers play host to the Buckeyes. It also can be changed with success in the final two road games at Nebraska and Wisconsin.

If Kill's team is ever going to show us something, now is the time.

Go Gophers!!

You mean now, or over the two weeks following that?

WTF?

So you mean the rest of the season, right? But you didn't include bowl season in this. You're right...if they lose out in the regular season, Kill has shown everything, and thus should be fired.

Way to take a stand...you tourist.

Urban Meyer's Buckeyes have never lost to a regular-season B10 opponent.

Judd Zulgad will respect us if we beat them.

Got it.

A$$hole.

My goodness, Judd. Take your head out of your behind. It's just comical right now. Worst piece of writing of the season right here.

I would probably kill myself if I was as miserable as Judd and Souhan sound on the radio

It's like the scene in "Animal House" with the devil and the angel on the kid's shoulders.

Angel: a big win by the Gophers - you should write something nice about them.

Devil: NO, you're a member of the Twin Cities media - and you're not allowed to say nice things about the Gophers.

Angel: But Jerry Kill seems like a nice man.

Devil: Glen Mason had better teeth, and he never won anything.

Angel: You're just mean.

Devil: I'm a journalist - not a fan. I'm not supposed to root for the home team.

Even the most optimistic Gopher fans will understand if we lose to OSU. Look at the UNDEFEATED record in conference play under Urban Meyer. TC media can be pretty brutal.

Now is the time? I think this is just the beginning, future looks bright.

It seems that he has let the radio gig go to his head. He's turned into that I expect perfection in everything sports. It was fresh when he first got on the radio, but can't listen to him anymore. Comes off as whining.

I thought Souhan had set the bar so low nobody could get under it, but Judd must have gotten on his belly to squirm under it. Lived here all my life so could somebody who knows give me an honest opinion? Do other big league markets have talk show hosts and sportswriters as lacking in talent? Reusse can be a dick, but the guy does have talent. Barreiro (?) can still be a good journalist when he's not blatantly trolling especially if he has a good guest to interview. Russo is such a puck head and hard worker that I think he's maybe the best although you have to be a hockey fan. Beyond these guys, I honestly can't think of anyone I notice because he or she is a good writer or a good reporter.

He's on the radio? Hmmm. Must be on AM.

Judd can't differentiate in his own head between college and Pro football. This is a pro football argument, through and through, and does not contemplate the realities of the college game.

Does Jerry Kill still have more seizures than Big 10 wins? That's all that should matter to Gopher fans.

Go Gophers!!

Jerry Kill's teams have shown us a lot the past three years. And many of us are already very impressed. As many KNOWLEDGEABLE reporters have stated numerous times, Kill and staff have done more with the players they have than perhaps any coach/staff in the country. One just stated today that the Gophers are the best coached team in the B1G. Whatever happens in the last three games is not going to change my opinion of a Jerry Kill coached team. The guy has already made some huge improvements and things are looking even better for the next two years. I wish Dull Jugzgag would find a new town to work in. Just go away. He writes like a junior high kid.

Just so we're clear.....the Gophers have to go out and beat a two touchdown favorite, or they're the same old Gophers?

Judd's a nobody....

The Illinois loss will no doubt go down as a "would-a..could-a...should-a" asterisk (*) on the final view on this season.

That is reasonable.

For the record I'm over it as a fan because there's more football to play.

Willing to bet the team is over it too.

Go Gophers! Beat the Buckeyes!

Ya, Judd know all. Asshole.

You guys are brutal. Feel free to disagree with the piece, and argue his points....I can can assure you, Judd is the furthest thing from an A-hole. I'm all about a good discussion with valid points, but no need for name calling.

Here's why college football has a terrible structure for a pro sports market like the Twin Cities.

To the eyes of the casual fan, both football teams are in the same spot: they both have an outside chance at a playoff berth/championship, and I can't really argue with this statement.

One team is 7-2 and has done something not seen in almost 50 years. The other is 4-5 and has all of its wins against garbage competition.

Hmmm. I've read all these posts after reading the article. The comments here made me feel better. Your defense of him is upsetting. You claim he's not an A-hole, but provide no supporting evidence. If you'd like, I think GHers could give plenty of evidence to support the consensus.

Judd is a puck head. That should tell us 50% of what we need to know. Puck head's are notorious for being oblivious to other sports. 25% is that he believes that the media has an inherent right to know the inner workings of the front offices and athletic departments. The last 25% is that he is a natural born cynic.

Judd knows hockey very well, and has some decent views on how the NFL needs to run their league. After that he isn't any more knowledgable than the dude listening to him on the radio. Mackey carries the torch on all NBA, MLB, and NCAA talk.

It's trash writing like this that helps to spreads the Gopher apathy all over the state. While he may not be an asshole.......I can bet you that he has a much different writing style for the Vikings. If they beat the Packers 51-14 and had a 7-2 record.......he certainly wouldn't be writing an article as ridiculously titled as "If Zimmer is EVER going to show us something, now is the time". He would be laughed out of town.

dear Gopher players,

Judd has laid down his softly tanned deerskin with lace trim gauntlet. Win this one for judd.

My exact thought. He whines like a baby if he feels coaches and front offices aren't transparent. He and Mackey were like five year olds over the hiring of Molitor.

I'm sure he us a nice guy, but I believe the only reason he wrote on the Gophers is because the Vikes were on a bye.

I we read the article, the line that is in our thread title comes in the text after the mention of the Nebraska and Wisconsin game. I think his point is that we still don't have a win over anybody who is currently ranked, and we have three chances to grab a win against some of the B1G's elite, and that would show that we belong in the discussion along with OSU, Nebraska, and Wisconsin. I certainly didn't get the impression that we had to beat OSU from his piece.

He may talk about hockey a lot, but he doesn't know that much. I'm not disagreeing with the spirit of your post, I'm just saying it's sad that he hangs his hat on hockey but he's just as clueless about it.
