If he's taking up a scholarship he better be more than a special teams player. That's a role for walk-ons.

While I would agree that we're probably not adding a JUCO with special teams at the top of the list, your statement that most special teams players are walk-ons is false. The vast majority of the guys dressing and playing special teams are on scholarship.

i think he meant he would be a great get on defense as well as special teams..
Exactly. I didn't think that would need an explanation. Kill values his special team, he's not afraid of using his starters on them.

Solid pick up that will give us some much needed depth at linebacker. Can we snag a JUCO DT too?

I like the pickup and the fact that he has 4 years to play 3. He looks like a good solid hard nosed player. I trust the coaches have a specific need in mind.

Welcome aboard recruits.
Picking up some big time recruits this weekend and guys that will play for the U. SKI-U-Mah and welcome aboard Mr. Poock, Mr. Blasingame and Mr. Rasmussen.
These are the kind of kids that are going to get us where we all want to be in the near future.
This is a fun time to be a Gopher, momentum is on our side. I'm excited coach Miller putting hay in the barn, this kid's going to make the Gophers damn tough to run on.

Cody had offers from Minnesota, TCU, Illinois, New Mexico, and NDSU among others. Anybody know much about him besides the fact that he went to IW?

He looks like Clay Matthews Jr.

Rivals showed he had no offers out of high school. Not sure if academics were a reason or if he just had such a huge year at IW.

He is smart enough to leave Iowa. What else do you need to know?

If it was an issue of academics he wouldn't be eligible after just one year at CC. He said in his GH interview that he only had DII offers so he went the JUCO route to build his resume, similar to BBC.

Just flat wrong. This post should be forever preserved as an example of why we should research first and post second.

He's not right of course, Special Team is filled with scholarship players, but at the same time you don't waste scholarships on players just to play just Special teams, except at the specialist positions. You recruit scholarship players to be starters or at least add depth in the 2-deeps as upper-classmen. Special Teams is where they contribute as they learn their positions. My .02

The staff flat out loves Juco's who have 3 years to play.

Welcome Cody! I love how this coaching staff keeps finding JUCO players with four years to play three. I don't have anything to base this on but I think our crack coaching staff is ahead of the curve on other programs in finding these players.

Go Gophers!

Wait, so he had a Gopher and NDSU offer and he chose the University of Minnesota? Really? I call poppycock! We all know that would never happen!!

Grew up just South of the Minnesota/Iowa border and said he followed the Gophers his whole life on some level. Was scheduled to visit Ole Miss the week after Christian Russel committed so he would likely have had an SEC offer as well.

That's the crazy part is we're not even looking at any Juco DT's. I can only surmise the staff is comfortable with some combo of Legania/Timms/Hinojosa/Peppers backing up Botticelli/Ekpe?
