Per Marcus:

Johnson also understands the current college basketball landscape that gets tougher by the day for coaches, especially minority coaches, to solidify their job status.

Kevin Keatts is a Black coach who led North Carolina State to the Final Four last season. On Sunday, he was fired.

Indiana coach Mike Woodson and Johnson were the only two Black men’s basketball coaches in the Big Ten this year, but Woodson already announced in February that he was leaving the program after the season.

“I have some personal pride that I’ll be the only minority coach in the league,” Johnson said. “I take that with a badge of honor. If I can continue to push and do a good job, hopefully continue to open the narratives and doors for other guys. It all goes hand in hand.”

Go Gophers!!

No matter what happens here, you're a Gopher! Always have been. Always will be!

Ben Johnson is no Clem Haskins. He is no Kelvin Sampson. Hell, he's no Avery Johnson. There have to be over two dozen black coaches (and skin pigmentation has nothing to do with coaching skills) in Division 1 basketball who are better than Ben Johnson.

Giving Jimmy Williams credit for a half year, the U has had African-American men's head coaches for 23.5 of the last 39.5 years, if my count is correct (and do correct my numbers if in error). That's nearly 60 percent of that time period. That's pretty good, as college basketball programs go.

I don't think any Big ten fan base cares what skin color their bball coach has
I'm sure there's a few. On both sides of the issue.
But hopefully not enough to matter much.
A basketball coach should be judged on performance. Doing less actually harms the cause of equal opportunity.
And I'm all for equal opportunity. DEI should be a goal of every organization. But not an impediment.

He's closing narratives and doors for other guys with his abysmal record.

NCST is firing a coach after going to a Final 4 last year. We're possibly extending a guy with a .280 conference win percentage? You can't make it up
NCST was basically in our position last year before their miracle final four run. So I wasn't surprised by that. And they fell off this year too

Nevertheless, I would hope that a final four run would give a coach here more breathing room than one year. NC State hadn't been in the final four since Jim Valvano's 1983 national championship.

So this particular article needed to be written 1 day before the potential end of their season?
The coordinated effort to keep him around is now to the bizarre phase.
Careful, you'll get called a conspiracy theorist. Remember, everything in the world happens by accident and coincidence.

I must be getting older. I questioned why the Mavericks traded Doncic to the Lakers too.

But did we all just watch the same season as all these sports writers falling in line? 7-13?

The article is a puff piece but to be fair that piece of the actual article is maybe 10% of it. Guessing Bleed knows what drives GH traffic.
