Jerry Kill retires from Rutgers after 1 year due to health

Hey Jer,

You wanna move back to MN? I think Tartan in Oakdale could use some assistance. Ha! Not ripping on the Tartan coaches, just sayin'.

Too bad, he's a great coach. B1G Network should give him a call.

Great mentor for the kids. In fact, in a coaches poll, wasn't he voted the coach other coaches would want their kids to play for? Great respect from his peers.

The cavalier thing for the U to do, Mark Coyle if you are reading Gopherhole, is to publicly acknowledge Jerry Kill's contribution to the U by naming an award in honor of him.

Mend fences and bring him, Rebecca, and the kids to the U for some kind of ceremonial thanks.

There are thousands of people who are touched by epilepsy and cancer who face everyday courageously and their families who see Jerry Kill as a champion of their causes.

I remember some of those kids he visited with. How they were beaming and felt special and empowered that they too can do what they are passionate about and live life to the fullest even when epilepsy tries to defeat them.

It is not just about football that we want to celebrate. We want to celebrate a man who lives an extra ordinary life. Yes, indeed some of the players that he coached and mentored said that he saved their lives. It is not just about that.

Jerry Kill is a good man with heart and the courage of a champion that not very many of us can measure up to.

So, in this Holiday Season, please remember him and Rebecca in your thoughts and prayers.

After he publicly bashed them and their new coach? No chance.

I don't see Coyle even entertaining the thought... the high road would be the road to take, but it is not his style....

People say things sometimes that they regret. It is not good to go through life and be bitter about something. It takes courage to mend relationships.

Gopher Athletics is in a better place because of people like Jerry Kill and others.

Mark Coyle will earn the respect of a lot of people for doing this.

I bet Coyle would be open to a phone call, if Kill made the first move and offered an apology. But Kill would have to make that gesture first, don’t think Coyle will reach out.

It is too bad when some people remembered Jerry Kill more for one negative angry burst he made, and not his entire body of good works.

I agree. He really wanted to remain at the U and I was hoping he would, but got why he didn't with Claeys being here. With Claeys gone now perhaps he could come back in more of an ambassador to the athletic program/fundraiser (isn't there 60+ million to get yet?) and could probably do a lot to promote the programs. Of course many will say that's Coyles job but in his own words he's a behind the scenes guy. I don't think we would have to worry about the overlap will Kill and PJF due to the fact they are different types of personalities and Kill is done coaching based upon health reasons. If not this, I agree with the other poster stating football analyst on tv.

I really like Jerry Kill and I wish him nothing but the best. I would really like the U to reach out and start mending the fence and bring him back in a couple years for a ceremony celebrating his career and the work he's done for Epilepsy. Maybe next time Rutgers is in town, though they are currently not on the schedule, according to http://www.gophersports.com/sports/m-footbl/spec-rel/future-schedules.html. I thought they were supposed to be here in a few years?

I don't think Kill is the right guy to bring in to essentially be the next Lou Nanne. I really don't know what he would do at the U that would justify his salary. I'd be OK if they come up with something, though...

I still can't believe Souhan didn't get fired for this article:

Especially this quote:

"No one who buys a ticket to TCF Bank Stadium should be rewarded with the sight of a middle-aged man writhing on the ground. This is not how you compete for sought-after players and entertainment dollars."

Never forget what an @sshole Souhan is.

Being horrible is profitable. Particularly in the sports media biz... and politics.

I think Jerry is 100% ... or nothing kinda guy. He is either running the program or not at all. I'm not sure how long he would have lasted as OC. It is great and his strength, but I think that makes him incompatible with most any role at MN at this point.

Are you talking about out Jerry or Coyle or both?

Have you heard how fit he is though? I mean, like, REALLY FIT.

Heard him on KFAN today. The sound quality wasn't very good, but it sounded like Kill wasn't about to forgive and forget. More troubling was how he was rambling at times and not very articulate--lots of hesitations and repetitions. I hope he takes a really good look and decides he would rather spend the time with his family, especially with his new granddaughter who he was so trilled about. Will always admire Coach Kill.
