I guess this means that JJ's plan B of getting a student loan and walking on at the start of classes is the worst case. We are still waiting for the NCAA Clearinghouse. I remember that with Hinjosa that they didn't clear him until he was committed to JC so he spent a semester there.
 




And another huge brick is added on. Don't know the details other than he officially was accepted for admittance into the U for fall semester. Great news to start the weekend and congrats to him and all those involved with it all. No matter the details of what his situation with the team will be it's an absolutely huge 1st step that hopefully leads to a long and successful career in Maroon and Gold. It's just the beginning and there's a lot of work to be done to cement his legacy at the U however I can't help but feel this is a symbolic brick of how IT'S HAPPENING for the Gophers and it's becoming undeniable that the future is bright for Kill and Co's football program...
 

I have no info to confirm, but it sure seems from the outside that Kill and Co. believed in this kid, set up plan A (qualify), and B (admit off schollie), and C (JuCo), guided, etc. when other programs who had interest (FL, MI) wouldn't bother. I would like to think that is true. Go Jeff! Go Gophers!
 




So he'll be able to practice once school starts since he'll essentially be a walk on?

It took me some time but I found this

According to the NCAA, a prospect’s status as a non-qualifier should not prevent them from enrolling in school. As a non-qualifier, a student-athlete is prohibited from receiving an athletic scholarship, practicing with the team, and playing in games. They are not prohibited from being admitted to the school, attending classes, or even receiving some athletic department benefits like tutoring, training room services, and free tickets to home athletic events. Prop–48 kids, as they used to be called, were basically allowed to enroll at whatever school they wanted, provided they could pay their own way and focused on just school for a year.

The Gophers were already confident that top running back recruit Jeff Jones would get into school, but it became official Friday, according to his Facebook post.

Good. Thats what i was worried about, access to tutors and the weight room.

Let me get this right. He has been admitted to the University of Minnesota and is waiting, still waiting for the NCAA Clearinghouse. Its time to blow up the NCAA Clearinghouse. If a member of the Big 10, accepts a student then why do we need to have an NCAA Clearinghouse.

Exactly what I was thinking. How can he get into the U but be denied by the NCAA. And why is it taking so long.
 

Jenkins seems like a really good dude. It'd be cool to have a little Washburn pipeline going on. There is definitely some talented kids in the area - hopefully he keeps them interested and eligible in football.

If Jeff isn't cleared but can play next year with 4 years of eligibility remaining, that's obviously still a very good result. Given our depth at running back I would think he would be a good candidate for a red shirt even if he is cleared. Yes it would be better if he could red shirt and practice, but the most important thing is that he will be able to play next season when we will are likely to need him more.
