Jeff Jones: D-Back?

We don't need help at DB this year, but next year we'll be real thin there.

Disagree. Ayinde is a walk-on third string safety who has been forced into action due to the Travis and Rogers injuries. He was picked on all game by Michigan.

But we only have Myrick at CB who is proven. Craig James is an unknown at CB still and behind him are a bunch of true freshmen.

Has he been AWOL from practice after Kill resigned??

Maybe it's because he is just such a great athlete.... kind of like MI has Peppers MN has Jones he will play both D and O and ST.

My comment was geared towards the statement we don't need help at DB this year.

Word is both Hardin and Shenault are pretty good.

Gotcha, makes sense. I agree about Travis and Rogers, those injuries have hurt. Ayinde and McGhee have been a pretty big dropoff.

I would say that maybe the talent level in Minnesota HighSchool's made him look better than he is, but didn't he play well in one of those national games? UA or something like that? It's wierd, and he still has time, but it seems like-on a higher average- the highly touted local guys we get don't seem to pan out. Am I way off here?
He was MVP of the UA game and was very good in practices leading up to the game against high level competition. I have high hopes for his future and think he will make an impact next year whether its at DB, WR, or RB. Another thing is I believe he has been battling migraines and also dealing with an ankle injury most of this season.

It's threads like this, that make one see why kill thought being a local kid is so hard. Jones hasn't played but a snap or two & we have 4 pages, opining about what the coaches "should" be doing with him. When the actual, behind the scenes knowledge we have, could about fill a Dixie cup... I know we're all passionate about our local kids, but more positive encouragement, on WHATEVER path Jones is on would, in my humble opinion, be more helpful to our cause, than sideline coaching.

Did Ayinde change his name from BBC?

Not sure if it is so much the fact that he is a local kid but rather the fact that he is the highest rated recruit of the Jerry Kill era and someone that fans had really high hopes for. As much time as people in here spend bashing the star system, the guys fans typically seem the most excited about every year are the ones with the most stars listed by their name.

As for Jones it would be disappointing to see him not pan out at RB but hopefully they find a good fit for him that enables him to get on the field and contribute even if it isn't at the level many were hoping for when he committed to play here.

RB really may not be the best spot for someone with concussion issues.

I have no doubt that he could excel at DB given the opportunity. On another note, can he take a medical redshirt this year?

If he is out for the season I think he could (though not sure how his path to eligibility might affect that), but with four weeks left and the fact he is practicing makes it unlikely they could convince the NCAA he was unable to play these last few weeks.

Don't you have to miss two seasons because of injury to qualify for that ?

No, just play in less than four games due to an injury.
