JD takes Pride in his University of Minnesota offer

Hey GopherLady,

If this headline was your brilliant idea, I'm going to kick your butt this weekend in Detroit. Awful! ;)

Sounds like there will be a lot of people in his life encouraging him towards the U!

Good luck on the ACTs this weekend JD!

So Pride has not verbally committed or anything to us, correct? I'm not sure I really like him saying, "Hopefully I can get some other offers." If he wants to be Gopher, it shouldn't matter, right?

No he hasn't - unless it's some super secret silent verbal. I'm not sure if it has so much to do with other offers, or to see where Seantrel is going. That, and no matter how much he loves the U, if he really wants to play QB, he's gotta be thinking he's got some tough competition here.

I'm not sure how much a verbal would even mean without him qualifying yet - he hasn't even taken his ACT.

Don't get me wrong, it's great when guys commit early, but I'd rather have them be really sure. I was talking to one of the basketball recruits Dad's (Chad Calcaterra) at the tryouts on Sunday. He said that the thing about Tubby is - he never pressured them, gave them a deadline, etc. He wants Chad, and all the kids, to REALLY want to come to the U, and make an informed decision. I like that. That's kind of my philosophy with recruiting too - take your visits, make an informed decision, that's what I'd do.

i haven't seen this kid

can anyone fill me in on how good he is?

He was pretty off and on last year, but he only played in four games after getting hurt in the opener. So its pretty hard to judge him on last year's stats. From what I have seen he has shown some potential, but I can't say for sure he will be a good player at the next level.
