JD Spielman News

I'm wondering what Jerry Kill is up to these days.

ol' jer is a ball coach. it's who he is, it's in his blood. he turns boys into men and football is his vehicle. to answer your question, jer' is at tcu as the "fix it guy" both for the coaching staff and for helping mentor the boys.

Whoaaa...this thread is way behind the other one. Need to help out after all I'm a team guy.

I saw that you said that in the other thread as well; what have you heard that leads you to believe that, and where did you hear what you heard?

To me, it makes logical sense for him to come here BUT I also feel there is dislike for Fleck within the family (have no proof, just a gut feeling) and I felt that point was validated further when Tyler wasn't chosen by the queens even though they ended up drafting a receiver shortly after Johnson was chosen. Both were chosen in the 5th round AND the talking heads felt the receiver from Miami was a reach for the 5th round. Queens could have gotten him later.

Yes, I know, quite the conspiracy theory (certainly considering he needed a solid draft as he's somewhat on the hot seat I think) but I was baffled by the queens on that 3rd day as I really thought (and hoped) Johnson 'might' end up here. Spielman loaded up a dump truck of picks for the remaining day of the draft and I thought we'd see Tyler in purple.

I'd really like to hear what you've heard though as you 'seem' to be plugged into what happens...
The only thing I can hypothesize is that Spielman is in the last year of his contract and needs to win now. The receiver that we drafted is more a return specialist from what I've heard. I still think they could've found a way to draft Tyler but I think our first 5 rounds were all focused on guys that will contribute right now. Then the 20 6th and 7th rounders we had are just shots in the dark but Tyler was unavailable at that point. That's my thought.

Nah, needs to stay in MN. I'm thinkin' St. Thomas...

My friend Lewis Skolnick said he saw JD hanging out with Ogre at Adams College.

There is no way in h*ll that movie could be made now given today's political sensibilities, considering all of the jokes aimed at minorities, gays etc.

So the Vikings didn't trade up to draft Johnson means Spielman doesn't like Fleck??? I think that is a stretch. Could it be they either thought Johnson would be there and were surprised when he wasn't or that they simply didn't have him rated that high based on speed, number of drops, etc.?

I was just throwing the question out there as it seemed odd to me they didn't draft Johnson, but did choose a 2nd receiver, in the same round. The fact the younger hasn't joined the team it makes sense for him to join (again, more conjecture..), seemed to be another dot that might connect to that theory. This is a board where we discuss things such as this, right? Do you know that he does indeed like Fleck and his style? Didn't think so... yes I agree on the fact that it's a reach, but looking at the Miami receiver and looking at Johnson, the only reason to draft the Miami receiver was for Special Teams from what I've read. He would have been there later in the draft from all that I've read as well. Really though, it was the choice NOT to draft Tyler, not the choice to take the other guy. I felt we were lucky he was still available when we drafted in the 5th round. Tyler wasn't going to last past the 5th (again, more conjecture, isn't this fun?).

I have no clue why they didn't draft Tyler, nor do you. I do know that I was very unhappy on draft day with how things played out regarding Tyler and will hopefully not be even more miffed in the next few years by Spielman's choice. Time will tell!

There is another perspective to Rick Spielman. He has six adopted African American kids. The sting of racism hit home.

Gotta be honest, there was a lot of congestive dissonance in my head as I knew who each Spielman was .... but I honestly forgot or just never knew they were related and once folks started talking about them together I sort of assumed they must be talking about some other Spielmans...

Wait isn't Rick... white?

Took me longer than usual to figure it all out.

JD was spotted yesterday wearing a St. Scholastica t-shirt:(

Funny story. I went to St. Scholastica. Played soccer for 3 years. Football's first ever season was my "senior" year but the kicker they recruited apparently never showed up, so I joined the team as their kicker. I had never kicked a football in my life, so I just started practicing and was the field goal, extra point and kickoff guy. Was I good? No. Was the team good? No. Was it fun? Moderately.

People are so mad Spielman didn't take TJ6...which I am disappointed but if my livelihood depended on winning games I wouldn't take the local kid just to take them. I hope TJ6 has a HOF career and we regret every single season the Vikings didn't draft him but to act as if he hates Fleck so he did that? GTFO with that type of nonsense.

I actually think he ended up in a better situation anyway. Tom Brady makes all receivers look like they're all stars.

Yeah this will just be way more interesting of a situation (rather than a frustrating one if he were a Vike). If TJ is as good as we all think he is, then he'll be seeing the field and catching balls this year. Plus, Antoine is pretty much a lock to start for them too, right? I suppose I could google it and read through Buccaneer blogs, but that seems like a cumbersome activity
