Jamison Battle to enter the Transfer Portal

No we wouldn't.

First, a horrible version of Battle was still a better alternative than we had at SF. However, playing him out of position definitely made him a worse player.

Second, I think your math is off even if you only wanted him to play the 4.

5 - Payne (25 minutes) / Garcia (15 minutes)
4 - Garcia (20 minutes) / Battle (20 minutes)
Came down to horrendous roster construction. Ben built that roster. His problem to try and figure out how to properly deploy it.

I'm not sure if it was mentioned since trying to avoid the resident dipshit I've skipped a lot of pages. But it really struck me that after Battle hit his game winner, he looked like it he was more angry than happy. It seemed to be a FU look when he looked around. Probably trying to read the tea leaves too much.
You're going to have to be more specific than that. There are too many contenders.

I’m thinking Battle’s injuries had the most to do with his dissapointing season.

Looking at game logs (just eyeballing not analyzing) it appears Battle played better with Garcia than without. His worst stretch was by far during the extended Garcia absence. Folllowed by the start of the year (foot injury).

If I was going to point to someone it took him awhile to gel with it would be Cooper.

He does suck as a best or second best player. He would be a really good role player if surrounded by talent
Agree; Jamison Battle playing 25-28 minutes per game as the 3rd/4th scoring option is the ideal situation for his skillset IMHO. Bonus points if he's matched up against PFs.

So he's really exploring his pro options...
In fairness he could be exploring both college and pro options for next year :)

Would suck to see him choose another Big Ten School for his final year.

I just wasn't a big fan of his demeanor this year. I feel like it's more likely he picks another school maybe at that Butler level or where he knows he'll get the playing time but I guess we'll find out.

Will be interesting to see what happens. If the goal is to have Garcia and Payne on the court together then a guy like Battle at SF just isn't a great fit. Still would have liked to have seen him stay but guess that wasn't in the cards.

I think he'd be a great 6th man coming off the bench, for some quick offense or some kinda role like that. After watching all the games this weekend there's a lot of players that are so much more complete than he is. He's a nice addition to a team, but probably not the guy you want to carry your team. I could be wrong but that's what I see.

Not having another teammate that could hit a 3 (like last year) was a major factor.

What it should tell you is other high level programs saw how Ben doesn’t know how to coach and run an offense. Coaches with actual head coaching experience recognize that. Unless he makes progress in offensive and defensive schemes will be a bottom dweller until a new coach is hired

Shot selection was his major issue, that and too many minutes. 5 other guys on the team had better 3 point shooting percentages this year than Battle. A lot of his issues were self made.

I thought losing him was no biggie? Strange all these teams want him, but we're no worse off without him....

Losing Battle and Cooper feels more and more like losing Gabe and Carr. A lot of fans on here couldn’t wait to see them go and all they’ve done is star for programs that were in the NCAA tournament the last 2 years, while we continue to get worse and worse.

Wouldn’t be surprised to see both end up with solid programs next year.

Good for them if so. Obviously they are not guys that could put a team on their shoulders or we would have won with them. But maybe they will help a team with some "dudes" win more games.
I really don't care one way or another with them.
As for the Gophers, I hope we find a couple of guys that are better fits for Garcia and Payne- who will be terrific next year.

Major conference college basketball is professional now. So technically he was being honest.

Creighton and Miami are big NIL schools, I think Texas has a bit, any other of the 16 teams left heavy on NIL payments?

Battle will almost certainly bounce back and have a good year next year. I wanted him to come back exactly for that reason.

Harder to way with Cooper as I did not see him at Morehead State. Either way, they will most likely be replaced by inferior players and will be worse off without them.

Look he is responsible for his own play to a degree. He was the least efficient of the top 7 players and not by a little. That's his problem. I know, I know, I know- you MUST tie absolutely everything back to Ben's bad coaching. Ben might be a bad coach- although it is odd that he was a better coach his first year. Battle played poorly just admit that.

Plenty of bad coaches can have a good year...lets not pretend we havent all seen that. Hell Brewster had a good year! (well half of one)

It can both be true that Battle is not a great player and it is a bad sign he is leaving.

Lol!

Comparing Cooper to Carr is an insult to Carr. Cooper can’t drive like Carr or shoot like Carr.

Comparing Battle to Gabe is an insult to Gabe. Gabe just made the Big12 all defensive team, Battle couldn’t make the Gopher all defensive team.

There is no contest between Battle and Carr. Carr is just a far better player. Both hogged the ball.

Stat lines for their final Gopher year

Carr
19pts/4rebs/5assists/1.3 steals/38%FG shooting/80%FT/31.7% 3 pt shooting

Carr scored 1.24 pts per shot - got himself to the FT line

Battle
12pts/ 4rebs/1.7assists/.6steals/37%FG shooting/78%FT/31.1% 3 point shooting
Battle scored just under 1 point per shot- rarely got to the line

Both were minus defenders for their positions.

Gabe- while his stats were not great on offense -was a really good defender- which obviously Cooper, other than shot blocking, was not.

After a bad year, a horrible year- a little turnover of the old guard isn't bad. It wasn't working. I have said that Battle is a good player who will fit as a complementary guy.

Do you think for one moment he was going to change and become a complimentary player here? No chance. It often takes a change of scenery to do that. I think Battle will do more in 25 minutes somewhere else, playing within himself than playing 37 minutes here and chucking any shot he pleased (and yes Ben should have sat him on occasion for that).
