It's becoming very clear

Please dont get me wrong...EE is a very nice player, much improved and the gophers do miss his presence when he is out. However, as a total package for Defense, he is not elite. Yes he blocks shots however, he gets too many fouls, still has issues guarding the rim, and gives up too many back door cutswith some footwork issues. That said, he IS a better than average middle of the pack defender but not elite.

The biggest reason this team is not very good defensively is because it is not very athletic.

I 98% disagree with that. Outside of Eliason, who isn't athletic?

Oto and King are definitely no not athletic. Probably the term I should have used was quick. 2 Hollins and Malik and Mo are not quick.

They are also most often shorter that the players they are guarding.

That the current team is more than just competitive with the best teams in the conference. I think it's a matter of simply being organized, particularly on defense. Makes one wonder what the hell Tubby and his staff were doing.

evidence that a mind is a terrible thing to waste

The 2 Hollins are great fits in a fast, up tempo style of play. Malik may not be as quick and athletic, but he is more than capable of running and playing full court defense. King maybe not, but I would say Oto is quite an athlete. In fact, I think that's all he is, just an athlete, not a basketball player.

Racist comment based on United Negro College Fund slogan. This is expecially bad on Mlk holiday weekend. Tubby 's system seems to be doing just fine at Texas Tech.

Oto is a below average athlete. He can jump a little but has no lateral quickness, slow off the floor, and stiff.

Tubby has a 2-3 conference record with two consecutive wins. As I previously stated, Tubby will challenge 20 wins this season taking over a program in chaos.

Why would anyone here care what Texas Tech is doing this year?

Um, because they have our former coach and it can be interesting following folks formerly in the program? Man, I mean this just seems obvious. Guess not. Odd.

With Tubby there was no rhyme or reason on either end of the floor. I also think we're much better off without Rodney Williams and Mbakwe.

I just read you died...well you should have taken this opinion with you to the grave cuz it's dead wrong.

I would think most people here care about the team right now, considering the past has no significance whatsoever. I guess some people just don't want to let go of Tubby and his mediocre teams.

I just don't see why people can't stop talking about him. He has absolutely nothing to do with our program anymore.

Both Hollins have decent straight ahead speed. Their lateral quickness, which is important on defense, is okay. Oto is by no means athletic.

As I said in another post, our guards are most often guarding taller players also.

Couldn't disagree more. Mbakwe would be our starting 4 and Rodney would come of the bench as his back-up.

Yeah, I would much rather start Oto with King backing him up compared to two guys getting paid to play ball right now.

If Tubby gets 20 wins this season I'll never post again. If he doesn't get 20 wins, you'll never post again. Deal?

Disagree, mbakwe would play the 5 and Rodney would play the 4, Austin 3, Andre 2, and dre pg. we would be undefeated with those players and ranked in the top ten with the style pitino plays if this hypothetical team existed.

Elliot would probably start over Rodney, or if he improved his shot then Austin wouldn't start

Does bolded portion qualify Reuben for possible dpodoll award nomination?

First of all, people can think about more than one thing at a time. Second, he was the head coach of our team *last* year and somewhat controversially dismissed. He was the head coach for the 6 most recent years of the program. The part of your post I have put in bold is particularly head-scratching. I attended about 90 games he coached. That doesn't vanish the second he is gone.

If you aren't interested in comments about Tubby, ignore them. It's really not that difficult.

Just tired of seeing people complain on every thread about someone with no affiliation with Minnesota anymore. What's done is done. And Tubby made no historical impact here at Minnesota, so I don't get why people can't focus on the present and future.

You know, there are specific threads dealing with Flubby, he doesn't have to be mentioned in every current one as well. Its really not that difficult.

I think it's natural and normal to compare the current coach with the one that immediately preceded him.

You honestly think that EE at C with Mbakwe at PF would not be a better combo than undersized Mbakwe at C and RodWill at PF? I mean, I suppose everyone is entitled to their opinion, but what about EE's play suggests to you that he wouldn't start if Mbakwe and Rodney were still here? He probably deserved last year to be a starter, if you looked at how the team did with him in the game vice without. Just another Tubby lineup failure that led to their pretty-good-but-well-under-expectations season.

Where I will kind of agree with you is that this team is a Trevor backed up by Rodney at the PF position away from a top-tier NCAA team.

P.S. the above statement is why the loss of Travis to Stanford was so critical; as he could have filled that void on a contending team immediately.

I honestly don't think it would matter that much. If those two were on this year's team, we'd probably see a good rotation of Mbakwe, Williams, and EE at the 4 and 5 spot.

With Pitino's system, he like the smaller, quicker lineup. Hence why Austin Hollins has played the 4 at times this year.
