If it’s academics, I really feel bad for him. Not being able to cut it in the classroom makes it difficult, if not possible to earn a degree. Maybe the JC route is where he ends up and then hopefully move on from there. Sad.

We should all remember that Gary Moore was dealing with major learning disabilities when he came to the U, but with the help of the support staff, he worked hard and ended up with his Master's.

So I think, if a kid puts in the extra effort, it's pretty hard to fail academically with the support structure in place. I think the Brown situation has to be a combination of things.

I'm nearly 60 years old, and I have to admit... the Gophs have had some incredibly bad hires/bad luck over the decades with head coaching hires. Ourside of hockey... pick a sport.

It's happened over multiple ADs, so it much just be a jinx on the U.

Mason also had some criminally easy schedules. A lot of his bigger seasons were padded with several wins against awful teams.

I feel like those schedues are also harder to produce now.

The difference between say Bama and everyone else is still miles.

But the difference between average P5 and Middle Tennessee State is a hell of a lot closer.

You can't just take for granted steamrolling those teams anymore.

South Dakota State a few years ago played us damn well as a team, way different defensive schemes and abilities compared to years ago IMO.

The Gophers have not had as good a season as PJ led them to in over 50 years.
He did well for one season so far.
My argument was with one of the Fleckites saying PJ should be praised for cutting loose a player he recruited after one season.
That’s all.
I have no idea if it’s anybody’s fault. I’m just not ready to praise PJ for the departure.
My praise for PJ is pretty balanced to my criticism...not that far behind. But any PJ criticism on here is like putting a huge target on your back and carrying a sign that says shoot me. It is flammable. It is a magnet for insults, including discrimination comments, ridicule, bullying and general ganging up to pile on and say just how stupid I really am.

But, like many of you guys I’m expecting PJ to win 8 or more games this year and finally beat Iowa. He pretty much has to win this year to catch Glen. 😉
Oh, but wait I can’t be a Gopher fan and criticize PJ. 🙀
Many of you guys are wrong a lot though. It’s okay.

You're fine. Don't take it so hard. I think the reason people defend PJ so much is the same reason they defended Kill. After being mediocre for so long, you always want the next hire to be better.

Long term, we don't know what Fleck will accomplish. He's more energetic and media savvy than anyone in the last 20 years. So he's trying to create a buzz. RTB is "the thing". I, personally don't care for the theatrics, but many find it entertaining.

In the end, he'll be judged on wins and losses. If he doesn't win enough, someone else will be here in 3-4 years. But I believe there's a portion of the alumni that expect to beat Iowa and Wisky AT LEAST 50% of the time. Fleck needs to start winning trophy games.

Fleck just needs to focus on winning all the games, if he gets to the point of consistently winning 8+ games I would guess the trophy games will come, and if they don’t it would still be a higher level for the program than we’ve seen in my lifetime.

Agree. But one season like 2019 still doesn't give him status of better than anyone else in the last 20 years.

I was always told when looking at records...you take out the worst season and the best season and average from there.
BTW...I'm NOT referring to you with the reference to the "2019" statement.

Yep. One of the great stories. I believe he is now working at Hopkins High School helping kids with learning disabilities.

PJ Flecks only 4 year stretch he has 15 conference wins and a .44 win percentage


So while I get PJ isn’t “steady” his first four years essentially equaled masons best four year stretch in terms of “steadiness”

Exactly why this season determines if Fleck is the long term solution. 2019, essentially, distorted the won/loss record for PJ.

Anything <8-4 will be cause for concern. I see four losses right now tOSU/Colorado/Iowa/Wisky.

And as is the case in many years... you win one you shouldn't and lose one you shouldn't.

Hoping to be wrong.

Michigan State lost a lot of LBs after 2020. Just got Ben Van Summeren (LB or TE?) from Michigan and Tank Brown from MN via transfer (and lots of other transfers). Both very big and athletic. Could be early playing time for Brown. Very sorry it didn't work out here for Brown. But just possibly it also speaks to the depth we are building at LB with most recent recruits and the development of others. Curious in any case.

Academics doesn't have to mean that you're failing. Could not be showing up, going tutors... etc.

Also, still could be ... it's not clear if / when he will be playing at Michigan State if playing edibility is still in question?

Lots of possibilities.
 

I agree that theses kids should be able to transfer one time, but I think if they transfer within there conference, they should have to sit a year.

We’ll be seeing a lot of him as we play MSU in 22, 23, and 24.
