As hard as it is, the boat has left this port. As have mentioned, it is hard to judge what coulda, woulda, shoulda...Bummed about Itayvion entering the transfer portal. Anyone else agree?
If it’s academics, I really feel bad for him. Not being able to cut it in the classroom makes it difficult, if not possible to earn a degree. Maybe the JC route is where he ends up and then hopefully move on from there. Sad.It will be very interesting to see what happens with Brown at his next stop. It always sucks when the highly rated guys in recruiting classes don't pan out for one reason or another. Just like it is awesome when the less heralded guys out of high school turn out to be star players (Winfield Jr, Ibrahim, and Morgan were all lower level 3* guys who have played above that level).

Too bad Clem Haskins isn't around to get the kid some top notch "academic advisors ".We should all remember that Gary Moore was dealing with major learning disabilities when he came to the U, but with the help of the support staff, he worked hard and ended up with his Master's.
Amparo A. HERNANDEZ
*CORRECTION* Also survived by brothers, Rudy and Nacho. (Full notice ran Sunday.)www.google.com
So I think, if a kid puts in the extra effort, it's pretty hard to fail academically with the support structure in place. I think the Brown situation has to be a combination of things.
Too soon? LolToo bad Clem Haskins isn't around to get the kid some top notch "academic advisors ".
I'm nearly 60 years old, and I have to admit... the Gophs have had some incredibly bad hires/bad luck over the decades with head coaching hires. Ourside of hockey... pick a sport.Too soon? Lol
No

It's happened over multiple ADs, so it much just be a jinx on the U.
Mason also had some criminally easy schedules. A lot of his bigger seasons were padded with several wins against awful teams.Flecks winning percentage so far is .578 and Mason's was .529 so they're somewhat similar so far with Fleck having the slight edge. I don't think you are remembering that Mason had a number of down years himself.
Disagree. Zero outstate recruitment through the late '90s.John Anderson was a good hire.........in 1982.
I feel like those schedues are also harder to produce now.Mason also had some criminally easy schedules. A lot of his bigger seasons were padded with several wins against awful teams.

The Gophers have not had as good a season as PJ led them to in over 50 years.I’m not a Mason fan, but we beat Penn St in Happy Valley when they were ranked #2 in the country. That said, Mason didn’t have a season in 10 years as good as the season Fleck had in 2019.
You're fine. Don't take it so hard. I think the reason people defend PJ so much is the same reason they defended Kill. After being mediocre for so long, you always want the next hire to be better. The Gophers have not had as good a season as PJ led them to in over 50 years.
He did well for one season so far.
My argument was with one of the Fleckites saying PJ should be praised for cutting loose a player he recruited after one season.
That’s all.
I have no idea if it’s anybody’s fault. I’m just not ready to praise PJ for the departure.
My praise for PJ is pretty balanced to my criticism...not that far behind. But any PJ criticism on here is like putting a huge target on your back and carrying a sign that says shoot me. It is flammable. It is a magnet for insults, including discrimination comments, ridicule, bullying and general ganging up to pile on and say just how stupid I really am.
But, like many of you guys I’m expecting PJ to win 8 or more games this year and finally beat Iowa. He pretty much has to win this year to catch Glen.
Oh, but wait I can’t be a Gopher fan and criticize PJ.
Many of you guys are wrong a lot though. It’s okay.
Fleck just needs to focus on winning all the games, if he gets to the point of consistently winning 8+ games I would guess the trophy games will come, and if they don’t it would still be a higher level for the program than we’ve seen in my lifetime. You're fine. Don't take it so hard. I think the reason people defend PJ so much is the same reason they defended Kill. After being mediocre for so long, you always want the next hire to be better.
Long term, we don't know what Fleck will accomplish. He's more energetic and media savvy than anyone in the last 20 years. So he's trying to create a buzz. RTB is "the thing". I, personally don't care for the theatrics, but many find it entertaining.
In the end, he'll be judged on wins and losses. If he doesn't win enough, someone else will be here in 3-4 years. But I believe there's a portion of the alumni that expect to beat Iowa and Wisky AT LEAST 50% of the time. Fleck needs to start winning trophy games.
Agree. But one season like 2019 still doesn't give him status of better than anyone else in the last 20 years.Fleck just needs to focus on winning all the games, if he gets to the point of consistently winning 8+ games I would guess the trophy games will come, and if they don’t it would still be a higher level for the program than we’ve seen in my lifetime.
Yep. One of the great stories. I believe he is now working at Hopkins High School helping kids with learning disabilities. We should all remember that Gary Moore was dealing with major learning disabilities when he came to the U, but with the help of the support staff, he worked hard and ended up with his Master's.
I mean glen Mason never won more than 5 games in a conference season. fleck won 7My intent is to show we haven't exceeded the level of success we saw from Glen Mason. Mason wasn't great, but he was pretty steady.
Fleck isn't to the "steady" level yet. I hope he far exceeds what GM did.
Exactly why this season determines if Fleck is the long term solution. 2019, essentially, distorted the won/loss record for PJ.I mean glen Mason never won more than 5 games in a conference season. fleck won 7
glen masons best 4 year stretch he had 15 wins and a .47 win percentage in conference.
PJ Flecks only 4 year stretch he has 15 conference wins and a .44 win percentage
So while I get PJ isn’t “steady” his first four years essentially equaled masons best four year stretch in terms of “steadiness”
Anything less than the 6th best season of the past 40 years is a cause for concern? Okay.Exactly why this season determines if Fleck is the long term solution. 2019, essentially, distorted the won/loss record for PJ.
Anything <8-4 will be cause for concern. I see four losses right now tOSU/Colorado/Iowa/Wisky.
And as is the case in many years... you win one you shouldn't and lose one you shouldn't.
Hoping to be wrong.
Looks like we might get to see him play in the future. This makes me think it wasn't simply "academics." Might have had to do with incidents or buy-in. Wish him well in his second B1G chance.Michigan State for Brown
Academics doesn't have to mean that you're failing. Could not be showing up, going tutors... etc.Looks like we might get to see him play in the future. This makes me think it wasn't simply "academics." Might have had to do with incidents or buy-in. Wish him well in his second B1G chance.
1000% committed, huh? Can any Twitter experts look back and see how committed he was to the Gophers out of high school? I think legally it has to be less than 1000%.Michigan State for Brown
Down with brown!MSU: Go Green!
We’ll be seeing a lot of him as we play MSU in 22, 23, and 24.Looks like we might get to see him play in the future. This makes me think it wasn't simply "academics." Might have had to do with incidents or buy-in. Wish him well in his second B1G chance.
Assuming he pans out of course. Not a sure thing. We’ll be seeing a lot of him as we play MSU in 22, 23, and 24.
