Is Williams okay?

Ah, I'm guessing you have no idea about DJ's stas from Sophmore year to Senior year....because they stayed EXACTLY the same with no improvement. Unless of course, you consider 1 PPG an improvement and .4 BBG and improvement.

Before you pat yourself on the back too hard for your impressive sleuthing, I was talking about his freshman year, not his sophomore year. And he also redshirted. So his second year with the Gophers was technically his "freshman" season. Either way you look at it, first or second year, he improved tremendously by the time he graduated and was a completely different player his junior and senior years than he was as a redshirt freshman.

If I read another post about how "athletic" Rodney Williams is I'm gonna frickin' barf. What in the H-E-L-L does that even mean? He can run fast? He can jump high? He can hit a 90 mph fastball? He can kick a 40 yard FG? He can throw a football over a mountain?

When people refer to raw athleticism it typically means their natural physical gifts, namely running and jumping ability.

I hope he is not hurt badly, but I would rather have him out than Nolen, Trevor, Colt, Ralph, Devoe, or Blake...Hopefully it is a short term thing.

You must be new to the game of basketball. Athleticism = Tubby's Gopher teams. Lack of Athleticism = Monson's Gopher teams.

My ankle pops when I get up every morning. I didn't see him in any extreme pain like an Achilles injury. Putting a boot on him is easy to do and like was mentioned before, just makes it easier for him to get back to the bench and prevent further injury. Not worried until I hear differently.

As for the 'A' word, you can see by his play so far this season that he has all the ability, from the perimeter, to blow past his guy and jump over the guys inside for a finish by the rim, or a dish to an open man. The problem is that he just hasn't developed to the point where he can pull it off. And his jumper looks awful.

For the record, I think Au Hollins (with another inch or two of height) could turn out to be what we hope Rodney will be. He's got great length and seems to have the natural talent that Rodney lacks.

lol, I have said many times that the gophers have a very talented team this year....but I make one comment about Rodney Williams and now I'm the Adolph Hitler of gophers basketball.
Are you Rodney's cousin or something?

I 100 percent agree. Sometimes, if you don't slobber over a player, you get killed on here. Rodney has great potential, but there is a certain 6-3 wing player that ripped up the Big Ten Tournament last season that will need some minutes come next game.

Art - are you really that obstinate that you are going to start a debate over the definition of "athletic"?

We all know what Art is trying to start. Most of his posts are coded in the exact same way. As for the topic at hand, while Rodney hasn't exactly been our most important player so far, it would be foolish to think he won't be missed. Now Hollins has to start, which isn't that bad except now we don't have Hollins coming off the bench. It's a hit to our depth at the 3.

Wow, I guess facts and the truth are not welcome on this board. I apologize.
I will try to live in dreamland more often from now on.
Rodney Williams will be an NBA star someday. He will dunk all day against NBA competition.

Great, it's this schtick again. It's not what you say, it's how you say it. It's fair to point out that Rodney doesn't have a solid all-around game. He doesn't. Every player on this roster has areas they could improve. And it's fair to point out these facts. But when you do it in a condescending manner and claim that anyone who might disagree with you is ignorant to the real facts, people will call you out. Facts and truth are welcome on this board. You just don't have the market cornered on facts and truth.

In other, related news, could this be the second incarnation of the incomparable millions2spare? He joined about the same time millions2spare's posts rate slowed down. Inflammatory posts? Check. Nazi references? Check. Saying anybody who disagrees with you is just ignoring the truth? Check. Claiming GH somehow doesn't accept opposing viewpoints and strictly polices itself? Check.

SonOfTheVarsity...Let us not forget missed layup in this mix!!!!

Dumbest thing I've read on this board. Nice job. So each top recruit could hold Harrison Barnes to 0-12 shooting with 6 points?

I assume you didn't mean to quote me... I was the one backing up Rodney...

Oh no...it's much better to have an athletic defender NOT on the court. Is he perfect? Hell no. Will he grow with more PT? Or course...

It would help if your "facts" were actually facts. You might want to actually know what you're talking about before you make those kinds of statements. Here... this might help...

And even if you were right, anyone watching Damian over his career who actually understand anything about basketball would know that he improved drastically.

Whoops, I apologize....it was actually a 2.8 PPG difference, and minus .4 difference in rebounds. So you pretty much confirmed exactly what I said. Good job. And if he improved drastically, then I guess stats are meaningless. Why even keep track of them.

You're right. A player can only be measure by ppg and rpg. The huge improvement in fg %, 3 point %, ft %, and assists don't mean anything because those differences hurt your argument, and of course a player's game can all be measured in stats. This is a great argument you have going here.

You're right, I did confirm everything you said. You tried to make yourself look good by talking about having facts but you didn't have them right. Embarrass yourself more please.

lol, now your just looking dumb. HUGE improvements? okay,
If a guy scores 9 PPG, its 9 PPG...doesn't matter if hes 4-5 or 4-30. Its still 9 PPG.
3 point % actually went down from freshman year.....not that any of it matters due to sample size.
As for FT%....Would you rather have a guy who scores 4 points a game and is 90% from FT, or a guy who scores 25 a game and is 70% from FT?
And btw, what team is Damian playing for now? oh yea, hes not.....same boat Rodney will be in. Athleticism does not equal greatness.
And yes, he averaged 1 more assist per game, I will give you that.
So now, the looking dumb ball is back in your court.
Once again, I have said that I like this gophers team....I think they will do quite well. But I cannot speak ill of anyone one player or else I am LakesBison I guess, and have no clue what's really happening in the real world.
Happy Thanksgiving.

again your dumb, damian is playing in japan, presumably making 6 figures, or close to it as he leads the team in scoring at 15 ppg. You suck, none of us like you, all you do is bad mouth people, which is why they are making money playing a game, and you are behind your computer in madison or des moines, pumping gas for f#&king truckers, and eating doritos typing on an orange keyboard. get the F outta gopherhole if all you do is bad mouth players, whats the point? waste of your time, but again your a loser so you have plenty of time to waste

"If a guy scores 9 PPG, its 9 PPG...doesn't matter if hes 4-5 or 4-30. Its still 9 PPG."
That's one of the dumbest things I've ever read on here. Explain your logic. A missed shot means it's likely now the other team's ball. How does efficiency not matter? It's not hard to figure out that there's a huge difference between 4-5 vs 4-30. Ever think that those missed shots = missed opportunities to put points on the board?

"3 point % actually went down from freshman year..... not that any of it matters due to sample size."

Actually, it does. The only season that didn't really matter that much due to sample size was when he was a frosh. Shooting 30-40 threes his next three years is not a very small sample size for a sf.

"As for FT%....Would you rather have a guy who scores 4 points a game and is 90% from FT, or a guy who scores 25 a game and is 70% from FT?"

Would you rather have Maverick on our team or Terrence Jones? That's how much relevance your question has.

"And btw, what team is Damian playing for now? oh yea, hes not.....same boat Rodney will be in."

There you go with your facts again... and Rodney will play somewhere. Believe it or not, the NBA is not the only basketball league where players can make a living. I usually don't just end debates on here, but you really are clueless... not worth it

Japan....lol.....nothing more needs to be said

and for FG%, if a guy misses 15 shots, but still scores 30 points.
....i'll take that over a a guy missing 1 shot and scoring 7 points. Because correct me if i'm wrong, but the team with the most points at the end of the game wins, right?
BTW, Underground, the only Terrence Jones I know, is a freshman for Kentucky, and averages 20+ points and 10 boards per game....so yea, I'll take him over Maverick if thats who your talking about?
and once again, yes, gogophseh, all I do is badmouth players...considering this is like the 9th time I've had to repeat that I think this gopher team is very talented and will do quite well.
Man, some people really have huge boners over certain players.

I'd rather live in Japan than Oklahoma City...just saying

Why do so many of these guys sound like they're about 13? Not just their main point, but the reasoning and the writing and the stupid "Am not/Are too" type of argument.

Worst Thread Ever

Not sure if its the worst thread ever. Some of the insults passed between posters over days in the past are probably worse. The troll was fed, and that is a bad thing.

I opened it thinking I might find something out about Rodneys' injury, and it looks like no news since yesterday morning. If anyone finds something new, start a new thread, please. Thank you.

Because so many on here only played Jr. High Ball!!! and they are frustrated jocks. They have never been coaches, teachers of the game. They think they are ASSests to the board. wink wink wink!!!

quit hating on Williams!!! He is playing Tubby's brand of defense!!!! He is an incredible athlete!!! My hope is he stays and grows into Big 10 Defensive Player of the Year!!!!!

You guys can stop arguing. I don't think anybody agrees with millions2spare/missedlayup/new noise. He simply likes to get a rise out of us here on the board. Let him leave in a huff about Gophers fans needing to be objective. Maybe he can find some comfort with Art.
