I this this deserves a new thread.
Rumor has it that Royce has been expelled from school, which obviously means he will never wear a Gophers uniform. This hurts on so many different levels. Not only will Minnesota miss his skill on the court this season, but this effects the future of this program. Royce was supposed to be the cornerstone of the team for the next 2-3 years, meaning Tubby didn't need to make a huge splash in this year's recruiting class, and he didn't. Hollins and Elliason could turn out to be solid players, but neither is expected to make an immediate impact (from what I understand). Where do we go from here? Minnesota will be fine this season, but without Westbrook and Johnson next season, it looks like the Gophers are left with a handful of slightly above-average players. Who knows? Maybe someone will step up this season (maybe Williams or Joseph) and become an impact player, but this doesn't look good. If Tubby can't land Corey Joseph, and it doesn't look like he will, this program could be in trouble.
With all that said, I think we need to enjoy this season to the fullest and pray that everything with Trevor works out so he can join the squad next season.

A dumb rumor deserves a thread?? Kinda like the Bryce Mcneal coming back to Minny? Pure Rumor.

Why isn't he at the game? No Friday night classes at the U. Two people in another thread mentioned they heard he is gone.

BGF: My advice

is to stay off any river bridges 'til you cheer up!
:) :) :)

Program in trouble?

I agree that this stings, but the program is far from in trouble. Trouble compared to what? The previous 9 years? Off the top of my head next year we will have: Nolen, Joseph (who is a star), Hoffarber, Carter, Sampson, Iverson, Cobbs, Williams, and I'm confident that Tubby will roll next year in recruiting.

Why are all the *&^!#*&^!#*&^!#*&^!#ing responses on this sight always so sarcastic? Why are people suck smart asses? Honestly, this is ridiculous...

The reason in this case is because you've taken an internet message board rumor and extrapolated it into the program is in trouble. Some of the responses may be ridiculous, but so is the opinion that a rumor indicates the program is in trouble.

I don't see where he said the program was in trouble. He said that it would affect the program, which I think most people would agree that it will.

He said... "If Tubby can't land Corey Joseph, and it doesn't look like he will, this program could be in trouble."

So he kind of said it.

The fate of the program does not hinge on Royce White. Even without White, Bostick, and Mbakwe, we still have the deepest and most talented roster we've had in a long time. Next year it will be similarly deep and talented.

Well, considering the entire original post could be accurately summed up as a giant panic attack because of an internet rumor, I don't think it's too over the top to call him/her out.

I agree that it doesn't hinge on White and in the long run this will hurt him more than the program but at the same losing somebody with the talent of White still causes me a bit of pain.

It was overall a pretty doom and gloom-ish post based on a web rumor. Even if it turns out to be a fact I would argue the program is NOT in trouble. Trouble would be if Tubby left!

I like what we have this year and I like the core that will remain next year. Yes, Tubby will have to change his recruiting target list a bit but "this program could be in trouble" ?

I say no.

I agree wholeheartedly. He is a phenomenal talent, and our ceiling is definitely higher if he is on the roster!

I don't think anyone would argue that losing White doesn't suck. But the kid made his choices and has to live with them (assuming he has in fact been expelled). Tubby's attitude seems to be "hey, if your not willing to be an adult and do the job expected of our players both on and off the court, I'll find someone who will." And if Royce couldn't live up to it, so be it.

At least spell the kid's name right.

it is a losing battle. you have people on this site who manage to spell adam weber as adam webbber, m. gray as m. grey, trevor mbakwe as trevor mbakkkkkewa. so it should be no surprise they don't even know how to spell the first name of the gopher's top basketball recruit. ;)

yes royce white is bigger then the whole program! how can we go on without him? i mean tubby isn't a good coach without royce white. tubby will never recruit a talent like him again ever.

about the most panic stricken post ever posted in the history of man right here.

i only hope biggopher fan was kidding.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying that I'm not on board with Tubby's decision (if it is true). If the laptop allegations have merit to them then he has no place within the University. I was just pointing out that I agree with the OP as far as feeling some discomfort with losing a player of White's talent.

Im sure tubby will be asked in the post game press conference. Im here in lexington (ky) on pins and needles, so please let me know

Really? If true he is gone (which i am not sure is the case) I think if all went according to plan Royce was probably outta here first available chance at the NBA to take the money and run. He was never committed to the program only to a way to the NBA. Which he may or may not have already blown.

No worries. I'm also feeling a bit of discomfort about it. But it will pass. Besides, we have this other freshman named Rodney Williams (who looked pretty darn good tonight!!!;)). Not that I'm throwing a party about White being removed from school, but at this point, I'd be more than happy to have Williams be the lead freshman in this class.

Royce doesn't exactly have the highest ceiling, so it's not like he was ever going to be lured away by first round money.

I am not saying he was a first round talent. More that Royce and school don't really go together. He was probably going to jump to the pros first chance to get money and to not deal with school

how long was he on? just pulled 830 up online to listen live and they are interviewing a vikings player.

I think you got 1130. They're still doing bball highlights.

He was on for 5 minutes but Tollakson didn't ask about the elephant in the room... I want to find out what's going on!

LOL

Heck, he was lured away by a $100 pair of jeans !!

I feel bad for the kid, but geez.
