Is "Michigcan winning it all" good or bad for the Gophers?

Go Michigan. Good for Big Ten and the Gophers

Please: his dad was the closer on any deal that got done any way it got done. You don't think the head coach and the recent record of the school open the door for the lowly, first or second year assistants getting in the door of a recruit's house? If I hear the line: "...my daddy did this...OR... my daddy is...or I I'm here recruiting you to my daddy's program..." I think nepotism...or...I'm REALLY something because I work at Louisville and I got the job because my daddy is coach there...OR my daddy's really good friend and colleague, the head coach at Florida hired me because he goes WAY back with my daddy...." really puts down this young hire at Minnesota.

You think it will be the same for him when he sends his assistant coaches out to try to get in the door of a recruit? Maybe with some local recruits it might help. But, nationally, it will be a while...if EVER that Richard Pitino's name commands the same reaction from recruits as Rick Pitino's name.

IF this young coach starts building a record that matches the record of his father...that will be different. Give him a chance to do just that. Don't curse his luck by dropping his daddy's name all over the place. Make him...let him...give him the chance to go out and earn his own name brand recognition...his own body of work...his own accomplishments. Let him shed the curse of carrying being ONLY his father's son. Let him become himself...his own man...and show his own character as having risen above his father's accomplishments, actions at a totally different university and basketball program.

Quit it with the name dropping and give this young coach a fresh slate...a chance to be himself...to succeed or fail on his own merits. Because, in the end, it will be he, and he alone who goes head to head with the Great coaches of the B1G Conference. Don't steal from his glory if he wins...and NEVER make excuses for him if he loses in B1G play. But give him HIS chance to be HIMSELF and NOT just his father's son.

PLEASE people: he has done nothing at Minnesota yet. We all hope he will do great things. But give HIM his chance to be him and give him a chance to succeed and claim his OWN victories and defeats.

Good luck to our coach!

That's a lot of nothing you've written there, as usual.

Bottom line, when Richard Pitino is on the recruiting trail, he'd be an absolute fool if he doesn't bring up the idea that he helped recruit some of the Louisville roster that went to back-to-back Final Fours. That's all I'm saying. All the stuff you said? Well, I'm not sure what it has to do with the fact Pitino will tout that he has helped recruit a Final Four roster. But, almost 100% of your posts have nothing to do with anything, so I'm not surprised.

Reading your posts is sitting on the toilet for a half hour thinking you area accomplishing something then looking in the bowl to see one small little turd.

Interesting. I think charges are called too seldom. We let a ball carrier (since dribbling is now optional in basketball, the football term is more appropriate) crash down the lane with impunity causing the game to look like playground ball without officiating. The rare charging call tempers this inappropriate aggression at least a little. Basketball should be a game of finesse and not brutality.

I'm with you on the minority side of the conversation. I think there are some officials who would call a block on a 500-year-old tree because one of its branches is swaying. Just because someone is moving a little doesn't mean they initiated the contact. The offensive player can certainly pull up and take a shot if someone is in their way. The offensive player does not have a right to a path to the basket.

I agree with this. You're not allowed to use your off hand like Jim Brown giving a stiff arm. However, I don't mix this in with the traditional charge that I was talking about.
You're right, I wasn't trying to lump them together. For me, the stiff arm and push off are biggest problem with the college game right now. It drives me absolutely batty to watch a point guard push off and stiff arm 3 or four times down the court and if the defender gets his hands anywhere close to the offensive player, he gets whistled.

Good line. Glad to read someone agrees with my opinion.

Only thing better that a Michigan win in the finals at this point would be 2 B1G teams fighting over it.

Is Spike Albrecht for real?? Wowwwww

I was on the fence, not really rooting for either team, but after seeing a WalMart Wolverine fan in the stands with a "Shock The World" sign, I've gotta pull from Louisville from here on out, even if they're down by double digits. A team that was #1 in the country at one point and finished ranked #10 winning it all isn't exactly shocking.

Thank you. I'm glad someone else found that sign ridiculous.

Good to see players who coaches seem to dismiss for whatever reason perform well.
