I don’t fault him either.
But I also think the NCAA should end the Duck’s football program for two years for tampering and pay-for-play. At this point, the evidence they are breaking NCAA rules is overwhelming.

I doubt it. Mo didn’t play the Purdue game for one, so the only other loss with Morgan and Mo was vs Illinois. You think we win that if we swap those two for AK and Bucko?

On paper, it might be our toughest game after Ohio State and Michigan (unless one of Purdue, Iowa or Wisconsin strike gold with their new portal QBs).
 


Was bummed when he left and it stung a little each time I saw him make a play for Oregon, but he made a great decision at the end of the day. Rushed for 1k yards, caught 30+ balls, and got the NIL bag. Doesn't seem like he bears any ill will towards MN, so I wish him the best. Seems like most here feel the same, and I'm betting the MN coaches and players feel the same. This is the way of the world in major CFB these days. Maybe a bit sad, but it ain't changing.

The NCAA is toothless at this point. I think most people can agree the NIL and transfer portal need some guardrails, but it doesn’t seem like the NCAA can or will do anything.

Well, on paper besides maybe South Carolina and Clemson it looks like Minnesota is one of the tougher games on North Carolina’s schedule as well.

I see the gophers hanging out in the T25 for most of the year. Got a feeling they’re gonna take a big step with Athan, the pass catching group, new RB’s etc..

Also we’re gonna see first hand that Athan is better than Maye 😎

What shots did he take? I'll agree Mo seems like an outstanding person, but there's no telling what he would have done if someone offered him six figures as an 18 year old.
 




If he had stayed, it would have made sense to have some plays with both in the backfield. Some kind of RPO but with Irving being the passing option in the flat. Lots of things they could have done.

It would make sense but not sure if they would have done it.
 

I think it's reasonable that most don't blame him -- because he wasn't going to be the starter here with Mo coming back.

That's the thing of it.


The far more interesting question is: what would you think about him/the situation if Mo had declared after last year and wasn't coming back?

I'd like to think that Irving stays here, in that case. We find some way to get him $50k or something reasonable. Enough to move his family out. Etc.
 

It's one thing for schools like Oregon, Miami (FL), etc. to try to tamper with other schools' rosters to induce transfers of (talented, promising) backups.

It's another thing entirely -- and pathetically disgusting -- to tamper with other schools' rosters to induce (presumptive) starters to transfer!

I believe I saw somewhere that his "NIL" money at Oregon was something like, 10 times that.

They paid half-mil for a backup running back? Hmm. Let's see it.
 


Bucky is an A plus talent. The name thing was stupid I hope Fleck has changed his best there. Having him split carry’s with Thomas made no sense he’s a much better player. With Mo coming back and Nike money probably didn’t matter but mistakes were made here with how he was handled.

Not in my opinion. Anyone with experience is middle to bottom of the Big Ten caliber. Not saying guys aren't waiting in the wings to step up or don't have talent, but if it's Potts, running the ball effectively ain't happenin...
Having Bucky with another year of experience to step in next year would have been huge. The guy has talent.

If we run out anyone other than 26 and the two freshmen next year, I’ll be shocked. Potts looks like he’s running in quicksand and Williams will be what he always has been: a depth player.
 

If our o-line is where they need to be, I'm pretty confident we can put any one of our guys back there and have success. I think we use Taylor this year more than we used Irving his freshman year.

I genuinely thought it was just a joke and that nobody called him Bucko. I have no idea what really went on - of course.

Splitting carries with Thomas had no impact on anything. Neither did the name thing. The dude left to another uncertain role and is still splitting carries. He left for money plain and simple. It just isn’t popular to announce that.

I really liked our offense with those two splitting carries. Bucky is the better back but they were different enough, I liked how fresh our RBs looked at the end of the game.

I think we will run for a lot of yards with whoever we put back there but our entire offense is based around the running game. We can't have a major drop off in talent/production.

I agree. It would sure be nice to have that home run threat that can house one when the opportunity is there. That’s the one thing we haven’t really had in a while. While faster than Mo, I’m not sure Irving was even that guy.
