That would presumably hurt Indiana should there be a 3 Unbeaten tie with Oregon & Penn St.

None of the 3 play each other the rest of the regular season.

That will hurt them in a 3 way tie for second with one loss as well

While that would certainly be possible, in the tie for 2nd situation (presumably including a team besides Oregon & Penn St) one of the other tie breakers would likely trump the Strength of Conference Schedule component.

Either head to head or record against common opponents are ahead of that one.

Also, if you have a loss then too bad, so sad. Should have won out. In the 3 Unbeaten Tie, the odd team out would have been just due luck of the draw playing weaker teams and had no control.

Disagree strongly.
In a 3 way tie where no one plays each other no one should win the tiebreaker because Washington is 5-4 but UsC is 4-5.

Just stupid.
Stupid schedule. Stupid conference.

There are options to build a schedule where a champ is decided on the field.

I'm not sure what part you are disagreeing with.

Yeah, that would be unfortunate (in a 3way tie for second), but in a Divsionless set up, thems the breaks.

As far as the Divisionless set up and schedule being "stupid" to begin with, I don't disagree at all. I hate it. I never wanted it.

I was not in favor of the Big 10 expanding from 12 to 14 teams and then to 18. My opinion matters not. I would like to go back to the 10 teams I grew up with before Penn St crashed the party.

I am disagreeing that a 1 loss tie is different than a 0 loss tie when no one played each other

It's fundamentally different because the loss was some what controllable. They could have won and gone undefeated.

Losing puts a team at the mercy of more tie-breakers. Sure that sucks, just not as bad.

In the 3 Undefeated scenario, one of the teams is going to get left out when they did all the could to get in the Title game (winning every Conference game). To me that is much worse.

On the other hand, if that team still gets to go to the NCAA Playoff and host a home game, then they are probably good with it. Rest up.

Not sure fans who are screwed will agree with you.
 

Looks like their QB will miss some time with a thumb injury. They do have a backup that I think could be pretty good though.

It really depends on the situation.

If I thought for my team being left out of the Championship Game in a 3 Unbeaten situation greatly increased the odds of making it to the Quarterfinals of the CFP with a better chance to win the whole thing, I would be totally good with it.

Another factor would certainly be how the team did in the Nonconference games.
 

It seems like yesterday (2019) that the Gophers were turning heads and competing to win the B1G. Since then Indiana has risen, fallen to the bottom, and risen AGAIN to roughly that same 2019 Gopher situation.

I wasn't claiming that I'd rather have Indiana's recent history. I was merely pointing out the fact they jumped up twice and fell once since the Gophers' breakout 2019 season.

Definitely would rather have our consistency, that said, this has the look of a magical season for them and will be interesting to see where they end up.

After that the challenge will become finding any sort of consistency which is not something that Indiana has been able to do on the football side.

Not “kind of” - I stated a fact… Indiana has had two breakout, attention grabbing seasons since the Gophers had an attention grabbing season of our own in 2019. It seems like you want to have some sort of argument or discrepancy despite me simply pointing out facts. And Indiana nearly hit rock bottom in between.

Just pointing out facts doesn’t make me an Indiana fan or even think Indiana recent history is more impressive than MN. MN has had better recent history. I think the Gophers were the better team at least 5 of the past 7 seasons or more (although they only actually played each other twice in that span), with 2020 being a toss up and 2024 probably being the first true nod to Indiana in a while.

We are tied with Indiana for the longest drought. In 1967, the Gophers, Indiana and Purdue shared the Big 10 title. When Indiana came to Memorial Stadium with an unbeaten record in late October, the Gophers gave them their only regular season loss, 33-7. Agree tha
t 2020 was a washout.

Yes kind of
They went 6-2 and beat 1 team that had a winning record. That team was 3-3 in the regular season.
2020 wasn’t a real season.

I think we are one undefeated OSU or Michigan team being excluded from a conference championship game away from having a new tie breaking protocol. Heck, maybe they will change the rules after the games were played but before the championship game like they did in 2020. (I know 2020 was a weird year, but I still have a fundamental problem with changing the qualifications rules because you don't like who did or didn't qualify. The circumstances that led to them changing the rules were an obvious possibility when they put together the rules for the COVID season).
