***INDIANA POST-GAME THOUGHTS THREAD***

Found this quote on the Hoosier board from someone angrily responding to a Gopher fan who said we outplayed them:

"You never lost a game in that fashion. Guaranteed! You all got lucky as hell. Period"

I've only been following this team since about 2000, but even I can appreciate how ridiculous that statement is.

I saw and laughed at the same quote. That dude has no idea.

What was the average starting field position today?

We lost on special teams bad.

Could've cost us the game.

Was Hawthorn hung over today? His kickoffs were consistently poor.

Yeah, the Gophers got lucky that they put up 574 yards, scored 28 straight points, scored on a 50 yard fly pattern by a TE, and picked up a fumble that 11 Hoosiers didn't know was a fumble. God damn luck, I say.

Still can't believe IU was passing at the end. Gp for the FG and like your chances in OT. Thanks IU and another great heads up play from Hill.

GP for the FG? Did you not witness Indiana score 26 straight points in the span of roughly one quarter? The Hoosiers had to feel invincible at that point. We could do nothing to stop them.

Now, if you want to argue about the play call that resulted in the game-sealing fumble be my guest. Weird call.

If they kick the XP after their fourth straight TD, they're only down two on that final drive and can settle for a short FG to win. I'm still surprised they went for two because they were already up by 4 after the TD. There's no difference between a 5 and 6 point lead with 5 minutes remaining.

Actually, there is a difference. A six-point lead means a TD only ties the game. Anything could happen on the PAT.

Someone needs to send that guy the clips of the Wisconsin game and the muffed punt.

I've been so excited about the win I forgot we get an extra hour of sleep tonight. Bonus!

I just have one request. Someone tell Brock Vereen the rules. He had no idea he just caused a fumble.

Barring that. Fantastic, gutsy, awesome performance by the maroon and gold.

Aw man, I had to work, so I got a text from my son telling me the Gophers were in the lead. Then this co-worker, who knows I'm a Gopher fan told me the score at the start of the 4th. I'm pretty happy. Ecstatic, really. Then....my foreman, a Nebraska fan, comes up and tells me the Gophers lost 39-35. I fricking got so pissed, I slammed a chain gate from a scissors lift, (without thinking) and just missed hitting my tool partner in the head....man I felt like $hit. Gophers lose, my immaturity almost caused an accident to the guy I'm working with. Dang. Then this foreman comes back a few minutes later and says he incorrectly had thought that he had given me the final score. Tells me the actual final. Gophers had come back and won!!! What a roller coaster and I didn't even get to view the real roller coaster of a game.

Bronko's ghost was looking out for us today. What a great game and we scored a TD on a drive where we fumbled the ball 3 times.

Don't know if it fit here, but my post game thought is that I think Brent Big-Enema has surpassed Jerry Kill as the coach who most resembles their team mascot.

Holy crap, I think I just about had a heart attack. Crazy game.

- For about 38 minutes, the defense played about as well as you can against Indiana. Take away the Kirkwood fumble and Indiana may have only scored 6 points midway through the third. But man, did they look out of place for the last quarter plus.
- The offense played a great game but would have liked to see them put a few more points on the board while Indiana was going on their run. We were a few bad passes and a few drops away from putting the game away for good.
- David Cobb is legit. He's not super fast but he has a good mix of speed and power.
- Sucks to see Christenson go down like that. I'm assuming it is pretty serious. But it is nice to have an experienced backup like Tommy.
- Donovan Jones is good. And even though someone overreacted and said Williams sucks, Maxx continues to impress.
- Engal is just too inconsistent. Makes some great plays but then also makes some really bad drops.
- Is Hawthorne hurting? His kickoffs were really low and short. That hurt the coverage.
- Glad to see us on the other end of the bad endings. 7-2 baby!

I TOTALLY disagree with you about Engle. He is ripping it up! What didn't you see about his near 100 yard day catching the ball and 2 touchdowns. He also had a fumble recovery on one of the Gopher fumbles that was retained.

AND, he CONTINUES to do a GREAT job in the punt return game by catching the ball and NOT letting the other team down the ball for really BAD field position for my Gophers.

Engle is having a GREAT season!

Like I said: I totally disagree with your take on this receiver. I have a hunch that our Conference record wouldn't look nearly as good without Engle's receiving contributions during Big Ten Play.

Those two deep outs to D Jones were well executed by qb and receiver too.

I saw that and laughed too. Our loss to Northwestern 2 or 3 times has been easily as bad. And then to see northwestern lose on a hail mary today seemed to me like they've used up their luck for awhile. Just now to finally be the team that gets breaks to win...

Lucky? Indiana created their own bad luck, got ahead of themselves by trying to close the deal with a TD. Instead, they got cute and it backfired on them.

Gotta love when coaches out think themselves. With three timeouts inside the 10 yard line they could have kept running the ball straight up the middle which is what they had been gashing us with for about a quarter and a half. But hey we are due to get some wins like this after all the times in previous years we have seen the result go the other way.

OK, my first post-game post... What a great game! If you want entertainment, this team gives it. It's a workout watching, between jumping up to give high-fives, dancing around, and stressing out. I was nervous when we went up 34-13 because there was so much time left. Indiana is a legit offensive juggernaut. I wasn't sure we would be able to make enough plays on offense to win. Our MO is a different style. This game -- this win -- will pay dividends down the road.

Thanks to all the posters who have pointed out the folly of the negative complainers. I'm having a hard time not ripping them. This team, these players and coaches, deserve gushing praise. The list of heroes is lengthy: Kill, Claeys, Limegrover, Cobb, Nelson, Maxx, Engel, DJ, Goodger, Leidner, Henry, and the O.Line all are worthy of their own paragraph (page?). Hill made a signature play, but had a solid game. For some reason it seemed Ind. threw at Brock all day, and gosh he played well. No sacks, but some pressure in key spots for the D.Line. A few missed tackles, but a lot of great ones. Truly a team victory that I enjoyed thoroughly!

That is EXACTLY it! I couldn't believe they were going for 2 on that last touchdown. I'm not going to call these circumstances luck; it's just nice to have some things roll our way for once.

This isn't being talked about a whole lot and I agree with your point. Up 4 is pretty much the same situation as up 5 and it bit them in the end, as they could have won with a field goal at the end.

Anyway, glad their attempt failed and glad we won.

I never understand when coaches go for 2 so early in the 4th when they have the momentum. If Indiana doesn't try that conversion when it was 33-35 they wouldn't have been in the situation they were in late in the game...

Deep Breathes. So glad I gots me some Obamacare...I think I had a mild heart attack there at the end!

Hey, GopherinPhilly, how about some love for calling for a flea flicker? haha. After our debate, they run it the first play of the game and hit Engel for 40 yards. I'm not ready to call myself Nostradamus, but I won't argue if you'd like to.

Great win!

With that said, Jones and Engel were solid today. Jones is going to be an absolute stud!

It's obvious that you really, really, really, like Engel. I'm with you to some degree, he's had a nice season. And I'm with GiI, he's had some costly drops. But Wren, if you're going to glow about someone, at least know how to spell their name ; 0 )

To be fair, I misspelled his name as well.

My point wasn't to rip on the kid. He's done a hell of a job. My only point is that if he's able to make those great plays, I think he is very capable to be more consistent. I would bet he and the coaches would agree.

I remember back in the day when a lot of the people here couldn't spell Weber correctly ("Webber"), and he was the QB :) I was just messing. I agree with you on Engel. I actually think he's the team's best all-around receiver, at this time, so I'm more surprised at those drops than anything. He's played well otherwise, and the adjustment to the ball on Leidner's throw was awesome to see (w/o the catch).

Agree 100%. He hamstrung himself with his first decision.

I'm in the more conservative group when considering the 2-point conversion. Don't do it until you have to or unless the score absolutely dictates it.
