I've watched the Red River Shootout game for several decades, and honestly, this is the first time I knew there was a trophy.

Additionally, when was the last time the gophers played a rivalry on prime time ABC? I am talking about the 7PM nationally televised games. It has not happened in a while has it?

The best television/time slots of the year are reserved for match-ups between 2 teams ranked in the Top 10 or Top 15. Obviously that has happened frequently with the rivalries you mention.

But even the last time that Wisconsin and Minnesota were both just mediocre (2008) the game was broadcast throughout half of the USA on ABC at 2:30 (generally considered to be a top time slot for college football). It says a lot about the power of that rivalry that ESPN/ABC knows the game will get a great number nationally, despite the fact that both teams playing are considered to be mediocre.

Minnesota/ Iowa has been only slightly less visible on national television. Also amazing considering how many ranked rivals usually play on that Saturday.

define "frequently".

define "frequently".

: at frequent or short intervals

Your list of major college football rivalries involve two teams that are both frequently ranked in the Top 10 or 15 when they play each other. And that's the primary reason they are being put on television.

Now consider Floyd, the Jug and the Axe. These games recieve substantial national attention despite that, often, neither team is ranked at all. This says a lot about how valuable these rivalries are.

They are valuable to the Big Ten too -- but the league may decide to make a trade-off that eliminates one of them.

'I am doing my best. I received 10 emails today from Ohio State fans telling me
Ohio State and Michigan must play the last game. Point - none of us will get
all we want. 12 institutions have desires - we have worked hard to come to an
agreement. Appreciate the email and the support.

Mine was similar and included: "I would not put much stock in what you read."

Within the context that drove the expansion in the first place: more TV money. We will be playing Wisconsin from time to time in the future for the Home Depot Axe. We will play Iowa from time to time for the Hormel Pig. Budweiser Jug anyone?

Mine was similar and included your quote above and "that none of us will get all we want".

I would add that "one" of us may get "none" of what we want.
