I'm done with PA

I didn't realize Morris was gone from KFAN. What happened?

I'm pretty sure PA is divorced. But please, continue the character assassination. He can't just be bad at his job (in your opinion)...he has to be a bad person too.

How could it be cut backs if they promoted Meatslap to full-time morning show, bring in Leber a couple of times a week, and have other staff join the show every morning...

Not sure how they saved much $

IMO, Morris was the weak link on that show. It is better without him.

I'm pretty sure he's not, but I could be wrong. One way or another, though, you should not hesitate to be rude and argumentative.

I think you are, but I could be wrong. For example- on his show page where he used to mention a wife and two kids...it now just mentions two kids...

Wouldn't doubt that Morris' salary more than offset the cost of all the other "upgrades". Clear channel laid at least 71 people off in 19 markets. That wasn't done to increase talent levels.

How is it rude to point out factually exactly what people are doing? For people who "can't stand him" and "don't ever listen", all of y'all seem to know a lot about him.

PA is brutal and his knowledge of college basketball is embarrassing for a major market radio show host. He cares more about his schtick than anything else. I hope like heck that Judd and Dubay can grab some of his market share.

They have my share.

Then you're probably right, and I'm probably wrong, except I'm right about the part where I said I could be wrong.

You are correct. They are not together, but they are not yet divorced. They are working very hard to be civil to each other for the children's sake. Actually, if not for the kids, PA would have left for ESPN a few years ago. They contacted him, and have been intrigued with him ever since he lost it at the end of the Cardinal's game that knocked them out of the playoffs.

I don't think ESPN would hire PA. You need to have a much more filled out resume before you can get a job there.

Oh, wait...

PA is a total d-bag. Still likes chasing the ladies even though married with kids. Some pretty good stories about him and the Viking snowmobile gigs on Milacs. Total pig. I'm surprised Mrs. Allen hasn't dumped him. A total Viking whore.

I found the last part of your post pretty dispicable. Why do people feel the need to come on a message board and openly call someone a whore who they've never met? You know nothing about his wife. Grow up and show some respect, My God.

I think you are reading that wrong. He is a Vikings whore in the fact that he will talk about the Vikings over every single sporting event in town. And he will do absolutely anything to suck up to Vikings players to get them to be his freinds. This is all on-air. So Ruppert is not just assuming. Ruppert was also talking about PA, not his wife.

I wrote PA off the day he interviewed Quincy about 2 years ago. First question was what was it like to be suspended for the tournament with a follow up with how was it to play for Monson. Obviously he knew nothing about Quincy and couldn't be bothered from being a pretend Viking fan(he wasn't the play-by-play guy or it didn't benefit him financially he couldn't care less) do to do 5 minutes worth of research. Quincy handled with the pure class that he is. Here you have one of the most articulate well spoken highly intelligent gophers of my lifetime and u basically accuse him of being a cheater and not even knowing when he played. I have a lot of friends who have worked at KFAN (graduated hs with a high ranking former Clear Channel officials son) in the past and I will just leave it that there aren't a lot of Christmas cards going to PA. I wrote him an email explaining how disrespectful I thought it was that he never even apologized and he told me that I could change the station.

I don't spend a ton of time listening to KFAN in the morning, but Morris became a four/fifth/six wheel over the years. I don't mind the rest of the group that much, but the appeared to be "alphas" compared to Morris and there was a lot of mike wrestling going on and I don't think that Morris took much zest in that. I always thought then when he analyzed a Viking game--win or loss--he was objective and it was pretty obvious he knew his football. He was on the flagship payroll, so he played ball, but when there was criticism to be leveled, he didn't back away.

I don't listen to PA at all, but when I do, he comes off as a real Vikings' apologist. Maybe comes from sitting next to Joe "it's all the refs' fault" Senser all those years. I don't think that's necessarily a function of this particular crew of broadcast personalities. It seems every "hometown team" announcer coast-to-coast has really become a shill.

KFAN was once great. Dubay kept PA in check, Common was a nice change of pace. Hartman was probably my favorite main guy and Sludge & Lake were a nice duo.

I think the problem with most personalities is that they are are very knowledgeable in just one sort. Sludge with basketball, PA with football, Tenna B with Hockey (Can't really say Common) and the Big Ticket with basketball. They really aren't well-rounded and there isn't a good baseball guy. I can take them all in short spans.

Hahahahaha.

Epic misread.

But when the conversations went on to other sports, you could tell he was checking out.

Sludge is not knowledgeable about basketball and has no ability to break down a game. None.He is just a regular NBA fan that watches for entertainment.

One other thing that impresses me with 1500 is they invest in sending their hosts to events. Judd was at Twins Spring Training, Phil is there now, Sandell went to the Gophers bowl game, etc. That gives them a tremendous advantage on interviews and analysis.

Go Gophers!!

I agree with most people hear in that I feel that 1500 tends to cater to the more educated/informed sports fan while KFAN is a place where the homer's congregate and tune in. Sometimes I get frustrated with the negativity towards Gopher Athletics, but let's face it. The truth hurts.

Content-wise, Judd & Dubay are kicking PA's butt. I don't even bother with KFAN in that slot, except sometimes when there's a guest host. Allen used to be entertaining and insightful when he had a co-host, but he's a complete and utter mess now. Virtually un-listenable.

I now spend most of my time listening to 1500, but that is not a shot at PA as i don't like to tear down others. There just is much more gopher talk on 1500 with Dubay who is a true rube. Once baseball starts though, they go way over the top.

The only one I like on KFAN is Barriero. I get tired of some of his "schtick's" but I find his knowledge of most topics to be very good, he asks intelligent questions and is able to get great guests on. I also like when he steers OT a bit into non-sports items as they are usually topics I find interesting. That being said, the rest of the KFAN line-up is brutal and I can't listen to any of it.

On the flip side, I am really intrigued with what 1500 is trying to do. They are catering to the hard core sports fan with in-depth analysis, straight sports and no "schticks." Clearly they can't figure out their line-up and having hosts on different shows overlap for an hour here and there throughout the day takes away from continuity of the shows. So Pat is on with Garage Logic for an hour (Pat's first of the day) is he supposed to give all of his thoughts on the Gopher game and then do it again when he is joined by Phil an hour later? Makes no sense. I also find it interesting that 1500 is willing to invest in full time writers for their site (which they promote a TON on their station in attempt to drive traffic to the site). I like the extra coverage, but you can see that the articles don't generate much traffic so I wonder how sustainable that is to have a Vikes, Gophers, etc. writer.

All that being said, I am surprised that 1500 didn't try anything new in the market with their recent line-up change. While Dubay is an interesting story and a good addition back in the local lineup, I'm surprised that 1500 hasn't tried to add a former player/coach and pair him up with a professional journalist. Otherwise all we get is guys like Judd, Souhan, Reusse, Mackey, Dubay, etc. that are professional journalists and just sports fans. I LOVE when guys like Flip, Nanne, Mason, etc. are on extended amounts of time and talk about different sports outside of their specific area of expertise. I also really enjoy the national radio shows where guys like Rob Dibble, Rodney Harrison, etc. are talking about sports they didn't play, interviewing other athletes, etc.

So why not pair Judd up with a former Twin or Viking that live in town? There are plenty of them in town, retired players/coaches, some struggling to find a new career path. Mike Morris is the only one that they've tried that with and he was brutal. But I think the opportunity is there to create a personality like that on the radio that would differentiate the station than just a bunch of professional journalists.

Go Gophers!!

I agree with pretty much everything you said. I also like Barriero, in small doses. He is a good interviewer and often has great guests. The rest of KFAN is garbage. During Viking season, I will listen to PA as he is 100% Viking talk.. but other than that, PA is worthless. 1500 at least is aimed at the hardcore sports fan. I like that they talk Gophers a lot.. that said, like any media.. I get frustrated at the takes. Dubay is a big Gopher fan, but really does not know a lot about Gopher Hoops. Lots of room for improvement, but I'll take what they offer over KFAN any day.

I also agree with you take on getting a former player not named Mike Morris. Heck, even Spencer would be decent. There has to be a former Viking/Twin/T Wolve that would be interested in yapping about sports every day... at least one would think.

One word:

Benefits

It's cheaper to pay overtime than have another full-timer with health, dental, 401K match, etc.
