Betting opens with Illinois a 2.5 point favorite, and the over/under at 44.5. Game at Illinois, so pretty much a toss-up game (neutral field) for betting purposes. Gophers and Illini are close to each other statistically in many categories, but we seem to be on the upswing. Becoming bowl eligible and simultaneously smashing the Bert Curse? Lot of incentive! Go Gophers!

Agree gophers are on the upswing. I think I saw Illinois has like the toughest schedule in the country so far or played the most ranked teams or something like that. They are a good team despite the loss yesterday. Probably the best team we’ve faced this year.
Sagarin has Illinois SOS at 42 and ours at 53. Pretty similar.

Mrs. Billd has special Gophers socks that she's worn over the win streak. She will not wash them again until we (hopefully never) lose again. They'll come out again for the Illini next weekend.

Not saying I expect any issues but in the meantime I'm doing an order for this today...

Both Sagarin and Sports Reference list UCLA as having the toughest schedule in the conference so far. In fact, both rating services list UCLA as having the toughest schedule in the country to this point.

Illinois isn’t that talented. Altmeyer is a good qb, but beyond that they had a lot more talent the last couple years.

BB has owned us both at WI amd IL - have we ever beaten him? PJ needs a win down there next weekend - just saying

We had them beat last year if not for AK missing an easy pass and Rossi's defense falling asleep. Both of those guys are gone so hopefully this year is the year

Yes, you're right; we absolutely had them beat.

Watching this, it's striking how different our team looks this season compared to back them, especially on offense.

I’d agree I don’t think there is much of a talent advantage in this game. I think it’ll come down to execution.

I do not

I do not believe we ever have! I get the feeling he could coach our team to beat his and then his team to beat us. He is head-and-shoulders above PJ as a head coach (and I HATE to say that as I have a very very strong distaste for the Illinois coach...despicable person...) It just happens to be true EVERY year for the last 6, 7, 9, 11 years?)

Illinois got injuries or something?

I am a little bit surprised by the numbers.
You shouldn't be...
Best 3 loss team in the country!
Need more? We just passed for over 300 yards in a Big Ten conference game.
Row the boat! Ski u mah! Go Gophers!

You’d think his performance at Arkansas and Illinois would reflect that then.

I'm fairly certain that the same fans who make that whole argument about Bert would make the opposite argument if Bert was the HC of the team they like.

Yes and they will be an angry bunch coming off the loss.

Bert's Illinois teams have always done a good job at punching us in the mouth. This is going to be a tough game.
Yep. We play well and we have a great chance of coming away with a road win. We don't have any gimmies on the schedule (although Rutgers is moving in that direction) so we will have to keep executing at a high level.

The good news is that we should have a very confident bunch heading to Illinois and this year we have a QB who would be unlikely to miss a TE a few yards away from him to seal the game.

Perfect play call. TE open….

-schedules therapy session-
On Brosmer's TD pass underneath to Jackson (the one on the open end of the stadium), I thought to myself "there is no way Kaliakmanis makes that throw". Then the memory of that pass to the TE in the Illinois game entered my mind. Ugh.

If you have never been to Illinois for a game, realize the swirling winds will affect the passing game. For certain we will have to run the ball to win. Which means we have to win the battle up front.

He would have thrown a 100 mph pass through the goalposts.
