Assuming that Jerry Kill and his staff are working for free.
And assuming that gopher ticket prices are 60 dollars.
The gophers would have had to sell and extra 83,334 tickets to pay for the 5 million dollar difference in salary from 5 million to free.
The gophers have to average 11,904 more fans per game to have had extra ticket sales pay for the 5 million dollar difference.
Meaning, if hiring Mullen meant selling out all 7 games at TCF next fall, averaging 38,000 fans would mean the gophers would be losing money compared to what Mullen brought even if Kill and his staff were working for free.
What is worse.
Assuming Kill and his staff are combining to make 1 million dollars, averaging 41 thousand fans would have been breaking even with giving Mullen and a staff 5 million dollars.
Assuming Kill and his staff are making 1.5 million dollars, the gophers would have to average 42,472 in ticket sales to match the revenue that bringing in a coach and staff that would sell out the stadium (assuming said coach and staff are making 5 million per year).
If the gophers go somewhere between 5-7 and 7-5 next year, what is the avg attendance at gopher football games next year. I would think that it would be right around 40,000. Because regardless of how good of a coach Kill may be, he is not going to sell tickets early.
Though if he wins, the University will make big money longterm. Because if he gets to the point where he is selling out the stadium, then obviously the profit margin is much higher.
