IA/NE

That is the most Iowa way to win a game.
Yep. Iowa didnt score until well into the erd quarter when Nebraska muffed a punt around their own 5 yard. Iowa still only got a field goal out of it. Then on Nebraska's last drive Raiola gets stripped sack essentially in Iowa field goal range, Iowa kicks the field goal to win.

The Hawkeyes had 49 yards rushing. 1.9 yards per attempt.

Iowa had 115 yards passing. Kaleb Johnson took a screen pass for 72 of those yards!

If someone on Nebraska's team simply makes a tackle on that one screen pass, Iowa would have ended up with somewhere around 45 yards passing, to go along with 49 yards rushing... TOTAL YARDS: 94.

Maybe it wasn't all Brian Ferentz's fault after all...

Iowa had 3 scoring drives. Here they are:

1) 4 plays, 2 yards gained. FIELD GOAL.

2) 3 plays, 86 yards (72 yard screen pass to Johnson). TOUCHDOWN.

3) 3 plays, 1 yard. FIELD GOAL.

A Nebraska DBack stood him up and looked to have him stopped but then another Nebraska DBack knocked over his own guy and Johnson was off to the races.

The muffed punt call was extremely close. It didn't touch the first two Nebraska guys that it appeared to touch and the first Nebraska guy who touched the ball did it a nanosecond before the Iowa guy, who both thought it had been previosly touched.

Late fumbles decide both the IA/NE game and the GT/GA games. GT QB picks up a key 1st down but then loses the ball on a massive hit and GA sends it to overtime,

That was such an Iowa type win. They pull shit out of their ass all the time! When it looks like they are headed for OT they get a strip sack with 20 seconds left, in Nebby territory, in field goal range already. They get the kick to win the game as time expires! I mean wow! Have to give their D credit they make the plays all the time for setting up the offense. How good would they have been with their RB and say a QB like Max this year?

Sometimes it feels that the worse Iowa’s offense plays the better the team does.

265 and 12 first downs, lose to UcLA
283 and 12 first downs, get blown out by Michigan State
303 and 16 first downs, lose to Iowa state

Is it some sort of modern day record to win a game with only 5 first downs? If it isn't, I wonder how long it has been since it happened

Nebraska is a bunch of faux tough guys, this is so lame:

Go Gophers!!
As the announcers always say, “that’s what college football is all about”. Nebraska should be proud , they can’t even beat a team with a linebacker playing quarterback.
Stuff like that doesn’t make you a better team.
Ruhle should spend less time working the refs and more time coaching, or maybe that is his best quality.

The contest last night unfortunately gave me flashbacks to an Iowa game I saw in person 2 years ago.

Same weather. Same 13-10 final score.

Fortunately, as in 2022 the Gopher Trophy case is not completely empty.

It really didn't surprise me at all. It's happened to the Gophers many times. We dominate in all statistical categories, except turnovers, and somehow lose.
Cmon that fumble with 35 seconds left was a jaw dropper

A little but the hawks had 280 yards and 13 first downs.
Same vibes where Iowa shouldn’t have won but much less ineptitude by Iowa that day

Add kicking and punting to the exceptions where Iowa has frequently dominated.

Also critical late turnovers in both games.

But you are correct, Iowa wasn't completely feeble on offense that late afternoon in the Bank.

The predictable result when the ultimate self-imploding team plays the ultimate find-a-way-to-win team.

So predictable that I literally called it prior to Nebraska’s last ill-fated drive. I said that giving the ball to Nebraska in a tie game with less than 2:00 left is a guaranteed turnover and resulting Iowa win. The only thing that was out of character was Iowa nearly missed the FG. It should have been right down the middle to perfectly fulfill the obvious vision.

Anyway, it sure is fun to watch Nebraska implode game after game, season after season.

True character and culture of the team clearly on display before the ball was kicked off. Not my kind of coach and team. These guys will end up in jail someday.

Can't confirm but I've been told that Arkansas beat UNLV in 2001 with only 5 first downs.

Iowa nearly doubled their scoring output this season. 15.4 per game to 28. They scored 20 offensive TDs last season. 38 this season. First in the conference in rushing.

Their passing game is awful though. Pretty amazing that a major college team can be that bad at QB.

I'm not sure if you're saying Iowa's offense is improved, or claiming they are actually fairly good.

Their running game is based on the sheer excellence and talent of one single stud player, not on any coaching philosophy or schematic improvement.

Their new offensive coordinator isn't exactly burnishing his future career opportunities. I doubt if any other program would be looking to hire him based on his record at Iowa... at least, not on the games I've seen.

Imagine how freaking good Iowa would have been the last few years with even an average offense.

Clearly improved. But not good. Not even average. It didn't help they've been without their top WR for the last 5 games but they weren't even average prior to that.

But to lead the conference in rushing, particularly with a passing game that doesn't require attention was impressive IMO. Now to be fair they had an easy schedule and the one great defense they played held their running game in check without issue.

As for the bolded Iowa definitely changed their run game this season. They were a big time stretch and outside zone running team under BF. This year much more counters and inside zone. Much like GB. One cut, down hill running. Johnson was clearly their bell cow RB but their RB2 averaged 5.4 yards per carry and RB3 averaged 4.4.
