I Pledge to Support Jerry Kill

Damn the haters, full speed ahead!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pure & simple; I'm in!!

Best of luck Coach Kill, Go Gophers!!!

If by support you mean show up to games and cheer, that was going to happen no matter who they hired.

But this guy better figure out how to beat teams with winning records in a hurry and recruit better than his abysmal stint (from a recruitnik point of view) at Northern Illinois and until he proves capable of either, he will never have my full support. Until then he remains a wasted opportunity.

For the first 30 hours or so, I was really down on Kill. But, after giving it some time and watching the press conference, I'm starting to come around. He certainly doesn't look the part, but I'm actually kind of excited to see how he does with the existing talent on the roster (which is more talent than we've seen around here in awhile, by the way). If he can have some success early, and prove that his gameplans work, I think recruiting will take care of itself. He seems like a quality individual who is very loyal. If he proves to be able to bring in talented kids, this may work out wonderfully.

So, I was completely off the grid yesterday from 3pm to 9pm. I get home, and the internet is down (thanks Comcast!). I find out about Jerry Kill via numerous text messages while Christmas shopping with Mrs. Stan. Here are my thoughts after having 15 hours or so to digest the news.

First, a thought to everybody who is negative on the Kill hire please do not direct your angst against Coach Kill. Direct your angst at Joel Maturi. Not for hiring Coach Kill, but for creating an atmosphere where the hiring would be viewed as a disappointment. It is Joel Maturi who stupidly stood on a podium in October and said his goal was a Tubby Smith type hire. Joel Maturi created an environment of expectation of a splash hire like Mike Leach, Mike Bellotti or Phil Fulmer. Do not hold that against Jerry Kill.

I, for one, am willing to give Coach Kill a chance. He has a proven track record of improving teams and has DI experience as a head coach.

I am probably in the minority, but I would much rather have Jerry Kill over a guy like Randy Edsall who has proven of an extended period of time to be nothing more than mediocre in the Big East.

Guess what? The job of the AD is to hire the right coach for the right situation, not to please the fan base. Iowa fans were irate when Kirk Ferentz was hired. Auburn fans wanted to torch the campus when Gene Chizik was hired. Tennesse just last year hired a guy, Derek Dooley, with a losing record (19-20) at Louisiana Tech. At this point ALL of those fan bases are happy with what those coaches have done. All I am saying is that Coach Kill deserves a chance and he has a proven track record of success.

I have no doubt in my mind on September 4, 2011 at the LA Coliseum the best head coach on the field will be on the Minnesota Gopher sidelines. You are going to see a hard-nosed and more importantly disciplined Minnesota Gopher football team. Save your angst for Maturi and give Jerry Kill a chance.

+1 I'm on board!

No matter what, I'm in. But his press conference made me feel a whole lot better.

Count me in, too. At this point you have got to support the coach and hope this is the guy who can turn it around. He seems to be the COMPLETE opposite of Brewster so that is a point in his favor right there.

I think it's a little funny that every time we have announced a new coach everyone was very excited and said what a great coach we have and then they failed. This time most people were upset and angry so maybe this means he will pleasantly surprise a lot of people. I hope so!!
At any rate -- ya gotta give him a chance!!

Best wishes and good luck, Coach Kill!!!

I was going to post a longer reply, but this about sums it up for me as well. I think Kill will pleasantly surprise us beginning as soon as next year. He was not my first choice, but now that he is our coach, I will support him as fully as I would have if he were my #1. After watching his presser today, I think he will win people over- more importantly, he seems to understand that its his job to win and win the fans over. As a person, I really think he seems like a stand up guy. Good luck Coach, and welcome!

Stan's the man!

He was on my first list

I support Coach Kill, and I admired his work at NIU and SIU.

I hope he recruits as well as he coaches. Being at a BCS school should allow him to get more athletes he wants to coach.

I support Kill but not the man that hired him. I've been asking for Joel's head for 5 years and I'm not stopping now.

count me in

I think a lot of Gopher fans (Myself Included) were misled by Maturi's actions. Whenever there is any glimmer of hope (i.e. a "tubby Smith-like hire) fans jump on it and are outraged when anything short is provided. However, we need a coach to rebuild this program. The list goes on and on of coaches (Tressel, Meyer, etc) that have made the jump from a mid-level conference to a major program and have done quite well.

I understand that Minnesota is different from Ohio State and Florida but the fact is that 17 out of the 24 starters (kicker/punter included) on Wisconsin this year are from either Minnesota or Wisconsin. Although it's advantageous for a coach to have recruiting pipelines across the country, we need a coach that can recruit the midwest first and foremost. Four of the five offensive linemen for Wisconsin are from the midwest; they have one of best offensive lines in the country.

The negative gopher fans will claim that Kill will not get us to the top. They might be right but Kill has the right offensive philosophy. Overall, I feel good about the hire. At first, sure, I was underwhelmed, but now I am comfortable with the hire.

I pledge to support Coach Kill so long as he wins football games. If he doesn't improve the Gophers from year to year until we can compete with Wisconsin and Iowa on an equal footing then we need to fire his ass and find someone else who can do it.

There are about 5 to 6 fan bases up in arm right now because their AD won't fire the head coach, most notably in Clemson and Michigan. I would much much rather be in our position than that position.

Signed, I actually love this hire.

+1

I'm going to be in SoCal for the first game in the Kill era as well.

I pledge to cancel my season tickets this year and take my wife on a vacation instead. I plan to thank Joel M. while I'm on vacation for making it so. I plan to wait and see on the new coach and if he turns things around, to consider getting season tickets again if 3 or 4 years. I plan to watch every game on BTN network next year and help their ratings.

+1 I am planning to cancel my season tickets at $60 a pop and either watch it at home or just go down to the stadium and pick up some $60 tickets for $10 each like they were going for for the Iowa game. I hope the guy is a great coach but there is nothing wrong for expecting Coach Kill to prove us wrong before we spend A LOT of hard earned money when we were told to expect something more at the beginning of the process. Thanks Joel Maturi!

Count me in! Heck, I supported Brew into this season, the least I can do is give Kill a chance.

Better late than never......need to get in on this great thread.

I too live Maroon and Gold.
I will die Maroon & Gold.

All behind you coach K.
Ski-U-Mah from Texas

Go coach Kill. You have lots of support from North Central Minnesota.
Go Gophers!

I am ecstatic. No more Brew, no more Weber and we've got a Killshot of a coach

I'm in

I pledge to support coach Kill too.
