When TCF Bank Stadium opened in 2009, the scoreboard was the third-largest in college sports at 48x108 feet (5,184 sq ft).

In 2013, just four years later and with the news that Illinois will be installing a new video board at Memorial Stadium (source: http://www.news-gazette.com/sports/...oards-coming-memorial-stadium-not-season.html) the board at TCF will be the fourth-largest in the B1G:

Illinois: 125 x 54 (6,750)
Michigan St: 114.8 x 47.2 (5,418)
Ohio State: 124 x 42 (5,208)
Minnesota: 108 x 48 (5,184)

Just a reminder how quickly things ratchet up in the facilities race.

I'm actually surprised that it isn't a bunch of mediocre programs that have the top screen sizes (like us). I figure the mediocre programs needs those gimmicks to sell to people.

It's a lot of money to spend on a gimmick. Unless the scoreboard actually needs upgrading I could see why it would be hard to justify the cost. I doubt many recruits or fans make their decisions based on the size of the scoreboards.

Can we please refer to these as advertising boards?

By far the biggest disappointment of TCF. Expected so much more from it.

Yep... Mine as well. It is essentially a static ad board that can show a video (and commercials) in the middle.

Well, the Big Ten can't seem to beat the SEC year-in and year-out, but our video boards are way bigger!

St. Thomas and St. John's have their own race. Tommies installed a $1.2 million video board recently.

Don't forget Gustavus built a beautiful new Stadium.
