How does Kill finish up this recruiting class?

His loss. He'll have to live in Iowa City for the next 5 years and play for a 4-8 team that's getting worse.

LOL....has anybody seriously visited Iowa City? He's right it's a hole. We will be taking the Pig back @ TCF anyway..sucks for them.

Let's not be homers here. If he turns out to be a good player, it could be our loss too, especially considering how few DB commits we've been able to get this year. I think Malik is making a mistake by going there, but I'd still love to have him.

I agree, he'd make a nice addition to this year's class. I just don't understand why a Minnesota kid would want to play in Iowa, especially given that Ferentz would be fired by now if it was up to most of their fan base.

They do put a lot of players in the NFL. I'll give them that. That said, Ferentz has lost a lot of his luster the last few years, for whatever reason. They used to take 2-3* kids and turn them into 2nd-4th round picks. Lately they've taken 4* kids and have done nothing with them. I doubt they have a player drafted in the first four rounds this year, if at all.

Two other recruits were on campus this weekend beside Tedric Thompson:

Daletavius McGhee, a safety from Georgia who has been committed to Louisiana Tech: http://rivals.yahoo.com/minnesota/f...Ghee-143576;_ylt=AkDIOt4rwdaOfCeua8C3yJbUspB4

Keshawn Henderson, a WR from Dallas: http://rivals.yahoo.com/minnesota/f...rson-128094;_ylt=AvUWS_QX56UlN7zWwijEbhDUspB4

It seems likely that both will be Gophers on Wednesday.
Looks like Daletavius (that's a new one) just committed to La Tech on Thursday as well. Nice offer list for Keshawn, can't find much on him in a quick google search and rivals doesn't have him ranked.

ESPN's analysis on McGhee:

"McGhee demonstrates the versatility to align at multiple positions on both sides of the ball as a two way player who flashes play maker ability. Aligns at corner, safety, wide receiver and as a return specialist. Plays with an aggressive, physical mind-set and good functional strength. May be best suited at safety in college. Displays good playing speed but is not elite. Demonstrates good instincts with above average awareness in run and pass situations. Will extend and catch the ball well outside of his frame with the ability to adjust to the ball while it is in the air. Is quick footed and generally balanced in back pedal but looks to gather some in transition, showing some hip tightness to make a 180 change of direction. Will make up on the perimeter as well as on the slot in man coverage. Is physical in press coverage to use hands to jam receiver at the line of scrimmage. Flashes the ability to plant and to break forward. Closing burst is just average but when given the angle will explode through ball carrier to separate ball from man. Gets good depth and reads the QB's eyes well. In run support is aggressive and will come up and play on the line of scrimmage. Uses his quickness to slide by blockers. Overall, McGhee shows the ability to be productive in the run and pass game. Plays disciplined and smart but needs to add bulk and strength to his frame. Will need to improve tackling ability and be more consistent wrapping up."

Wow, they both seem awfully impressive for so late in the process. Henderson really skies to get some of those balls, and McGhee is very physical, I think he'd be a cb not a safety though. I don't understand why Henderson has all those offers but hasn't taken any visits.

Plus, as I understand it all of his high school coaches went to the U.

Wrong. Willie Howard went to Stanford.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Willie_Howard

Plus he's doing an excellent job rebuilding that football program at my ole alma mater.

Iowa jumped on Malik fast, the U just sat back and tapped it's toes like a shy insecure teenage girl. By the time the U wanted to dance, Iowa already had Rucker on the floor.

Malik sounds like the shy insecure teenage girl that jumps at the first boy that shows her attention. He was offered by the gophers plenty early enough. Like I said earlier, if getting offered by Iowa a month or two earlier was a major factor then I have to question his judgement. He should get to be on the field a lot though playing for that joke of an offense. Iowa is going to be down again this year, they better pray LeShun Daniels is the next Leveon Bell.

Malik plays defense, BTW! Give the kid a break guys. Seriously, if the kid wants to play at Iowa, than let him. There is no place for bashing him or his judgement. I would love to see him in Maroon and Gold but that's not going to happen.

GET OVER IT!!

No, he wasn't. I said at the time that they waited waaaay too long to offer him. He should've been offered in January, or perhaps February at the very latest. I'm not saying this to toot my own horn or anything, but merely to point out that obvious high major football players should be offered as soon as possible - ESPECIALLY when they're in-state. Rucker is and was obviously a scholarship-worthy player for virtually any school in the country. Waiting to offer served no purpose whatsoever. It may or may not actually be a major factor in his choice of where to play, but it certainly didn't help. As I said at the time, when have you ever heard a recruit say, "I'm eliminating Minnesota - they just offered me too damn early."? Since there's all upside and no downside, what's the point of waiting? This isn't a borderline in-state scholarship prospect like Anyanwu or Lauer. There was no doubt that the Gophers should've been his first offer, and their failure to be that may have cost them his commitment.

I will bash his judgement if that was reasoning. I know he plays defense, I'm saying the defense will be on the field a lot.

He was offered early enough that he had half a year to weigh his options. Obviously he wasn't offered early enough since that supposedly was a big reason he isn't coming here.

I.e., he was offered 7 days too late. I hope whatever extra analysis Kill and staff needed to do over the course of that week (especially given that there were no games, camps, or extra film to evaluate in that interim) was worth it.

There was also a GH interview with him this summer or fall where he said something to the effect of "Minnesota is showing me a lot of love." A lot of players still go to their home state school even if they weren't the first to offer. We had already received a verbal from Brookins at that point, and were heavily recruiting White and possibly Nate Andrews.

What's more puzzling is the SD State offer on 2/24/2012. WTF? He has already gotten offers from several other schools that get national exposure and they come in at the end and say me too?

That was a year ago. It tricked me too.
