I'm not saying this to toot my own horn or anything, but merely to point out that obvious high major football players should be offered as soon as possible - ESPECIALLY when they're in-state. Rucker is and was obviously a scholarship-worthy player for virtually any school in the country. Waiting to offer served no purpose whatsoever. It may or may not actually be a major factor in his choice of where to play, but it certainly didn't help. As I said at the time, when have you ever heard a recruit say, "I'm eliminating Minnesota - they just offered me too damn early."? Since there's all upside and no downside, what's the point of waiting? This isn't a borderline in-state scholarship prospect like Anyanwu or Lauer. There was no doubt that the Gophers should've been his first offer, and their failure to be that may have cost them his commitment.
