Here's who we have, and some of what I hope to see/predict for the remaining recruits:

QB (1-2): Streveler and possily Donovahn Jones as a QB/Athlete
RB (1): Berkley Edwards.
WR (2-3): Eric Carter and Wolitarsky
OL (1): Alex Mayes.
TE (1): Nate Wozniak
DE (2): Ekpe and Salzwedel. Done unless a high profile recruit drops in our lap.
DT (2): Hinojosa and Peppers. Same as above.
LB (4): Wilson, Wipson, and Laster, Dixon.
CB (1-2): Myrick and hopefully one more
S (1-2): Daletavius McGhee and possibly Thompson
K-P (1): Santoso

I agree with your thoughts on the TE position. Duke is looking good last I heard. Bulked up to close to 260 now. If he puts on maybe 5-10 more pounds and keeps his speed, that's a dangerous and versatile Tight End.

Is it too early to know about JUCO transfers yet? I want us to pick up a solid WR who could come in right away.

I don't think that the staff will recruit any JUCOs, unless they can get into school for the spring, or have three years. Two year JUCO transfers need to play right away, and it's tough, unless they can get here in the spring.

QB (1): Streveler [Done]
RB (1): Berkley Edwards. I think we miss on Hunt and Webb.
WR (2): Eric Carter. I think Wolitarsky will commit, miss on Jarmon.
OL (1): Alex Mayes.
TE (0-1): No commits yet. Batten or bust.
DE (2): Ekpe and Salzwedel. Done unless a high profile recruit drops in our lap.
DT (2): Hinojosa and Peppers. Same as above.
LB (4): Wilson, Wipson, and Laster. I think we end up with Dixon.
CB (2): Andrews and Myrick.
S (2): None yet. I think we land Tedric Thompson and one other player.
K-P (1): Santoso

Thanks for the update on the guys we are getting... I don't care were other minnesota kids are going i care who is coming to us.

Maybe we'll get that Safety who wants to leave Florida.

Assuming they have only about 3 more scholarships left to give out, I'd like to see them land 1 wide receiver, 1 safety and one tight end. PWO's would likely go to a guard, another wr and another safety.

Anyone heard official word on Hinojosa...

I heard that there is still some questions about him really being part of the team. I don't want to discredit his dad or him, but I've heard people from GI say things like they still doubt he ever becomes part of the team. I hope he's part of the team.

Salzewedel....chances that he becomes a DT? He was 6'6" 235 going into his SR season, so he could easily be around 245 -255 lbs before stepping on campus.
Tedric Thompson - I think of him more as an OLB recruit. I think he'd be one of the LBers.

Some of the other positions, it depends upon what we hear in the next couple weeks as far as attrition goes, but I agree with JG, I'd look for more LBers, another Wr, and possibly another DB.

I wouldn't be surprised if we took another RB too. I think the staff is correct in acknowledging that our biggest area of concern is with our position players, we need more skill players.

On Hinjosa we should be able to find him on People Search after the 22nd.

I think how coach Kill finishes his recruiting class is to watch the fax machine on National Signing Day.

They will find offensive linemen. 1 is a big shortfall to the program, long term. We need 4.

They should have a camera facing the fax machine with a hot coed retrieving all the faxes like Alabama (?) did a few years ago. Maybe have a small fax machine and set it on the floor so she has to bend over to pick it up?

-1 more skill position player (likely either Raphael Webb at runningback or Drew Wolitarsky at WR-I've become suspicious if his offer still stands)
-2 or 3 more defensive players from the following: Rayfield Dixon (LB), Duke Riley (LB), Jalen Coleman (LB), Tedric Thompson (LB/DB), Vontarius West (DB), Shaun Rupert (DB))

You really just need to look at who has or will be visiting. At this point in the game, that appears to be the top list. 8 guys and probably 3 or 4 spots for them.

After that? I really don't know. I wonder if there isn't another local-ish kid (Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Kansas City area) that the staff isn't hiding away in case they have an offer left to give. Someone with a current PWO offer that could be upgraded if there is room available. It's hard to believe we'll only have one Minnesota kid in an entire scholarship class, even given the dearth of talent this year.

They aren't going to sign 4. The O-line is young, they red shirted Hayes and Pirsig. They can afford to go light on lineman this year.

They also signed and redshirted Lauer last year. Our staff will probably recruit the walk-on OL hard and I'd imagine 1 more OL signs (most likely), but 1 or 2 this season after last year is perfectly fine.

I doubt we sign another lineman. As the previous poster mentioned, we are so young there and had the luxury of redshirting all three freshman last year. Compare that to our situation in the defensive backfield, where all three freshman were forced into playing time, and we're losing both of our starting cornerbacks. Or at linebacker, where we are losing 4 scholarship athletes (5 if Beal is done).

It's a good idea to normally sign about 3-4 offensive lineman per class, but these are unique circumstances, and considering we don't have a single offensive lineman graduating (though Gjere did leave), the total numbers haven't dropped at all unless someone transfers.

I suspect we'll be back to signing 3-4 offensive lineman next year, especially considering the local talent that will be available.

Anyone know how many O- and D-line offers Michigan, OSU, Wisky, etc are offering? It all starts up front. My guess is that those schools are offering some of the big horses.

You'd have to look at that in context with who they already have on scholarship. I'd imagine we'd be right in line with most schools when it came to scholarship offensive linemen.

Just checked out some highlights of CB Vontarius West. Put him on my wish list. Size, speed, ball skills, grades.

Yeah, he looks pretty good, almost like "what's the catch?".

I have three questions.

1. Did the U have any gray shirts last year? I believe they were going to but then they ended up getting those players scholarships. Am I wrong on that?

2. Since there is at least the perception that the SEC is getting better talent than the B1G, plus the SEC* tends to oversign by 50% (maybe an exageration), would it make sense to hold back a few scholarships for players that the SEC schools try to grey shirt or withdraw their offer? Or is that level of player not necessarily equal to what the U might get the first time around? I'm assuming a player can enroll elsewhere if the scholarship is not immediately available, if that's not correct obviously this wouldn't make sense.

* I just saw an article that in 2006 Texas Tech signed 34 players to scholarship offers. The article didn't say how many scholarships they actually had, but it'd be a maximum of 27 I believe (25/year plus 2 JUCO back signed to this year if available, right?). That means at minimum they oversigned 7 players, more likely 9 or more. So I guess it's not just the SEC...

3. Can the U back sign any players to the current class? Thinking since Gjere and Shortell are no longer receiving football scholarships...

#1: They were going to GS Leuer and Anyanwu, they both were part of the class last year and redshirt.
#2: I don't think it would be, often times it's the older players who "leave the program" and most of them would need to sit out a season and it's often academic casualties.
#3: Those players are already calculated into our current "open scholarships"

I could be wrong, but that's what I believe.

Barker wasn't on scholarship. I believe no one can be "signed" for the current season after class starts in the fall, so no one graduating in 2013 can be given a 2012 spot.

Duh - my bad on Barker.:p

Can't you sign 2 Juco players to this year's class if there are slots available? I forget the details of how that works...

Given his offer list I am actually a little surprised to see that we have not offered him considering most of the schools that have are in the class of those we go head to head with quite a bit. Then again you never really know how accurate any of that stuff is. Rivals seems pretty good but they make plenty of mistakes as well.

The number is 3, and it can be anyone, JuCo or HS, as long as they enrolled during spring semester. For example, we could count Nelson as a 2011 signee (if necessary) because he enrolled in Spring 2012, assuming there was an open spot (out of 25) for him in 2011.

I think bob is right, but I also believe that in the past Brewster and Mason both tried to keep an open scholarship to pick up kids who got dropped at the last minute by name schools, especially SEC schools oversigning. Given the number of other non-helmet schools that would also like to do that, I think the viability of it only exists if we already have a relationship with the player and since we don't really know which players the helmet schools might drop, we could spend a lot of time trying to do this for not much result. The possible exception would be when we have recruiting contacts in an area that can kind of see that result happening ahead of time, but it still might be a very low percentage chance of success.
