How Broken is the CFB Rankings!?!

+1

The 4 team CFP is about keeping the haves and have nots in their places. Making an actual 8-12 team playoff that includes non-P5 Cinderella teams = a future w/parity.

Agree. I think if you're going to make the major shift to having a playoff, it should be 8 teams. Imagine the NCAA bball tourney just being seeded with the Final Four. 8 teams seems a decent compromise to actually have a playoff but not extend the season too long.

CFP is not a playoff, it's a political Rank-Off. (CFR) A playoff would have 8 or 12 teams, and all FBS conferences would have an avenue (a play-in opportunity) to an actual playoff. The thing right now is no playoff, just another flawed system with too much human involvement.

No, it's most definitely a playoff. Just because you don't like the construction of it doesn't mean that it isn't a playoff.

Sorry youre wrong, it's a Rank-off. It has no resemblance to an actual playoff. Have you ever watched the NFL or any other level of college football?

Would a 12-0 MN even be in the top 5 in a year where they didn't play OH St or MI? They wouldn't even be in except for 13th B1G Champ game.

Only 5% of teams even have a shot, regardless of record. It's a party by invitation only.

Nice try troll. But a 12-0 Gopher team with road wins against PSU, NEB, and WI would most definitely be in the top 5 going into B1G Championship.

Um...this is blatantly wrong. See Iowa 2015 ranked 4th before the Big Ten Championship game.

It's a bracket of four teams who play each other to determine a champion. That is, by definition, a playoff. Many of the teams in the NCAA basketball tournament are selected by a committee. I suppose that isn't a playoff either?

Words have meaning. You don't get to make up your own definitions for them.

Only on the Off-Topic board..

This is why a 4 team playoff is stupid. Either go back to just bowls and polls or go to a true playoff with 16 teams. In a 16 team playoff, the winner of each conference (the Power 5 and the Group of 5) makes it (10 teams) and 6 at large that can be voted on by a committee.

Teams in the "group of 5" don't belong anywhere near a CFP. UNLESS they are undefeated and beat 3 Power 5 opponents. Even the Big 12 and ACC struggle to have a program worthy of the Top 10 most years ever since they were thoroughly raided.

I like what Western Michigan has done, but reality is they're a .500 team in the B1G. Why reward teams for eating cupcakes?

How broken is it?

On a scale of 1(solid) to 10 (effed up broken), it is a 15.

With the way OSU and Michigan are playing recently lets hope PSU is the playoff rep so we can save some face. They have stretches of above average play but I don't think the Big Ten has a dominant team this year. Then again, outside Alabama every team has had their struggles. Have to go with conference champs when there is a big pile of meh.

The problem with the CFP is that the athletic directors that make up the bulk of it have no business passing judgement. Your average Gopherhole poster has an opinion that is equally valid. It is total garbage.

Ummmm no. PSU is the 4th best team in the conference.
