As I watch a ton of videos about Indiana's rise, success and, finally, B1G and National Championships, I find hope for the Gophers. Maybe not next year, but sometime. My hope is that I get to see us get back to that level, but I know my sons, huge Gopher fans, will see that rise for our Gophers.

It was a miracle Indiana won. Just like the 1980 Olympic hockey team. It will never have again.

Indiana proved that with a proper investment in the program even a P4 doormat can rise to the top. Doesn’t give me hope unless we start seeing the investment.

We can.
1. Fleck and coyle need to get a corporate donor program or SOME FRICKING funding program going.
2. To get cigi level, fleck will need a brain transplant and cut the bullshit and do EVERYTHING to get a OC and DC dynamic minds here. The 2 we have are complete failures. We will not win with them.
3. So until fleck goes on a retreat with cigi and cigi tells fleck to pull his head out of his yapping ass we will be what we are at best.

All we need is for Mark Cuban to buy us a team.

Without rich boosters to buy you Heisman trophy winners .... there is no hope.

We don't have those.

Put it out of your mind.

IU had no five star players. The ROI they got from their transfers was 10% money and 90% miraculous.

Mendoza won the Heisman trophy and will go #1 in the NFL draft.

There is no need to pretend that their 2025 season wasn't 99% about him being an incredible player.

Since 1999 the gophers have been one game away from a huge national relevance 5 times in my opinion.

Just gotta win the breakthrough game in one of those up years.

And we are due for an up year

Beat Wisconsin in 99
Michigan in 03
Wisconsin in 14
Wisconsin in 16
Wisconsin or Iowa in 19

Nobody knew he was going to win the Heisman when they "bought" him. You make it sound like winning the trophy was preordained and Cuban outbid Alabama, Notre Dame and Ohio State.

Mendoza opened the season with the same odds to win the Heisman as Dylan Raiola and Miller Moss.

GopherGrit has had a burr up his backside over Cignetti and Indiana for months. He has no clue what he's talking about. He complimented me on another thread for a very thorough rebuttal (and my total demolishing of his flawed argument) of his anti-Cignetti position/opinion, yet he continues to spew the narrative about Indiana and Cuban "buying" the Heisman and Natty, and not giving Cignetti, his staff, and his players the appropriate props for winning the Natty. "Without Mendoza they'd be 9 and 3" - how the hell does GG have any idea what Indiana's record would be if Mendoza hadn't transferred from Cal to Indiana? Frankly, I've come to the conclusion that GG has his feet planted firmly in midair...

No credit to the stellar catches from the receivers or the lights-out defense they played with all season?

The defense that finished:
  • 8th in 3rd down %
  • 4th in first downs allowed
  • 2nd in rushing defense
  • 2nd in scoring defense
  • 6th in sacks per game
  • 2nd in tackles for loss
  • 4th in total defense
  • 3rd in turnovers
Those guys were carried for 16 games by Mendoza.

Well done, sir! Alas, I fear facts will not dissaude GG from his POV. Sigh...

Gophers have House money and whatever else DTA can come up with. But since most other P4 have the House money too, that's just going to rapidly drive up the price for good QB's in the portal.

How do you propose that a program like ours attracts and affords a QB in the portal at the level of Mendoza, who was a very highly rated transfer QB?

Because with Mendoza they beat @ Iowa by 5, @ Oregon by 10, and @ Penn State by 3.

Without the Heisman winner, they lose those three games. It's really not rocket science.

I don’t think anyone is saying that Mendoza was not a vital component to IU’s run. But the team was much more than just him.

Once again, you're confused. You've overlaid your hypothetical opinion onto a scenario that you cannot prove to be true or false, as Mendoza was Indiana's QB and not some hypothetical QB you made up in your mind. That is a fact, and to quote you, "it's really not rocket science." I guess that's why we have fan boards so people can opine what they "feel" to be true and ignore relevant facts such as those that Scottsdale Gopher provided above.

Keep trying, though. I'm sure you'll continue to beat your worn-out drum.
