I don't know the technicalities on NIT tickets, but I overheard people saying that the host school does foot the bill for putting on the game. If this is so, is there some flexibility in ticket pricing?

If so, would it be possible to give free tickets to all season ticket holders and rely on the additional concessions and parking?

Or charge $5 or $10 a ticket to get butts in the seats. I can't imagine they are making any kind of money off 3400 people (500 of those tickets which they gave away to students) - so if there is a more creative way to get people to the game on Sunday, it would be worth looking at.

I'm not sure people will go at $5-$10....Sunday is a great day of match ups in the NCAA Tourney, and leaving that to watch St Mary is not worth the effort for most. The NIT is meaningless to fans these days.

But not to the people that count...The TEAM!!!

The fans are fickle, the TEAM has class.

General rule I follow for NIT attendance is if it doesn't interfere with watching the NCAA tourney, I'll try to make it. That's why I was really hoping the Gophers' 2nd game would be Monday, not Sunday. Hopefully they get to the 3rd home game on a non-NCAA tourney day.

I imagine the attendance on Sunday might be even less than 3400. That's a prime NCAA day.

did they even give away all the student tickets? that didn't even look like 500 students.
I thought it was kind of odd that I couldn't buy the best seat available- my season tickets are good so it didn't matter that much but the year before Tubby the Gophers got beat by Maryland we got tickets in about the 3rd row. Looking back on it, that was a huge waste of money too. With everyone spread out in their seats last night it was hard to get any crowd enthusiasm going. Bunching everyone into the first 10 rows might have helped.

Some of you guys think the U should pay you to attend.

My thoughts:

This assumes the U is ready to acknowledge that the NIT will be a hard sell. I don't know if they are there yet.

Why not announce that all NIT game revenues go directly towards the practice facility? Charge 10 bucks a ticket and solicit further donations as people come in. It wouldn't raise a huge amount of money but might make people enthusiastic about attending.

I like it.

I'll go anyways, but I'd rather go knowing the above is happening.

I think the risk if you lower ticket prices to $10, $5, or even free, is you may not see a significant uptick in attendance. If you will get relatively the same amount of people at the games with a $20 ticket as a $5 ticket. You better charge 20.

Not sure that is the case, but I am sure it is considered.

I plan to go to the game Sunday, nice to know I won't have to rush for tickets. Anyone seen a time for the game or when tickets go on sale?

If it means I'd rather watch a second round NCAA game on tv pairing a couple of Top 25's as opposed to paying to see a matchup between two teams not good enough to make the big tourney, then I guess I'm in the "fickle" camp

When will they announce the time of the game? If it's an afternoon game, I can make it.

Hey, it's the 21st century. Williams Arena has wi-fi. If I want to keep track of NCAA games or even watch parts of them while I'm at the Gopher game, that's now possible. No reasons not to go support my team.

You most definitely have not tried to use the wifi there let alone stream a live feed.

That is a got'daam good idea.

There is always the thought that student attendance might be a little bit better on Sunday as they're back from Spring Break. Not sure I buy that, but it is always thrown out as an excuse.

While the time for Sunday's game is not yet announced, the next round (3rd game should they make it) will be on Tuesday, March 25 according to Gophersports.com. Obviously a non-NCAA game day (unless you count the women's tournament).

Plus at halftime they put games on the scoreboard, guessing they'll have the tourney games on at half

There are some rubes/homers that would rather watch their team in person in the NIT than somebody else's team on the tube in the NCAA. We got great seats for Sunday's game. I hope the crowd is a bit better without the snowstorm and spring break.

I went to the game last night and it was strange seeing the upper deck empty. It was a little quite in the Barn. The highlight with it so empty was I got to buy a ticket right at court side and as a life long fan, the NIT games over the years are some of the best for that reason. I agree the NCAA first weekend Sunday is tough competition and I don't think the pricing will make a difference, the Barn is going to be empty again no matter if the tickets are $20.00 or free. I am planning on going again Sunday I just wish they would announce the game time.

If I could have a choice, I would rather watch our Gophers LIVE versus other teams on TV. I can drink beer before, and after. And during, if you know how to do it.

GL, for sure as expectations go up, the NIT goes down as a perceived good time, esp. that first game. I know some people who are planning to go to subsequent games. That first game is dangerous if the team is bummed, plus, as Coach Pitino said, challenging match-ups. Its like a preseason game.

What should they do? Give lots of tickets to youth programs. Tix for Tots, There are people in town for health stuff at the U hospital. Give them tickets - a happy diversion. The team had white shirts w/ the M and 'Pride' on it. Get Teague to run counter culture and promote is as an opportunity to support the school. However, like some people on this board, enthusiastic support might suggestion acceptance of failure, rather than an opportunity for success.

And dang, you and I could have put together something better for halftime!!

Yes, but when there are only 16 other people in the stands with you, the wifi is significantly less bogged down.

Good point. The problem I usually have is the signal strength. It's hard to pick it up on my iPhone when I'm in the student section in the 5th row. Maybe it's better the further back you are.

Good God...Go to the game, enjoy it, and FucH the wifi b.s.
