Hoffarber killed us

Or...without him we lose by 20.

18 pts, 7 assists, 2 rebs and 2 TOs...not too shabby.

I wouldn't put all the blame on Hoffarber, although he certainly did his fair share.

Bottom line is that our zone is horrible. It's one of the laziest 2-3 zones I have ever seen. No ability to identify shooters or close out. Basically, it's just a bunch of guys standing in the 2-3 alignment with their hands up. And then occasionally, we'll cheat on way or the other. But we don't do that hard either. Rather, it's a casual step to the left or right with no pressure at all on the ball, leaving whoever was previously being guarded wide open for an uncontested three. All and all, just a completely lackluster approach to zone defense based on what I've seen tonight.

And if Hoffarber doesn't string together the worst 2 minutes of his career the Gophers win.

The end matters more.

Plenty of reasons we lost this game. Can't put it all on Hoff's shoulders. He had a bad play, but he is also 6-13 from 3 pt land.

haha crazy talk...yes he had a bad TO at the end but I couldnt imagine this team without hoffarber. Take away the only guy on this team that can shoot and things would get very ugly..bottom 2 or 3 in big ten

Too much on his shoulders with present situation in backcourt.

Can't allow Battle to go off for 28 points, many of which were uncontested 3's.

Not having a point guard killed us.

+ 1 billion. And it has for weeks now.

I don't know how, after four years, we have one point guard on the roster worthy of starting in the Big Ten, and he's hurt.

It's remarkable, and frustrating.

In the zone Hoff wasn't the only guy not getting back to cover the 3. Give the guy a break. He's playing out of position and still kept us in the game.

I didn't realize baskets were suddenly worth more at the end of the game. Without Hoff, the end doesn't matter because we're down huge. He didn't play well at the end, but he certainly isn't the reason we lost.

I think this is how it played out. MN up 60-59 with the ball. Hoffbarber (thinks he is J.J. Reddick) launches a 3 point shot with at least 15 if not more secs on the shot clock with a man in his face. Missed shot turns into a 3 pointer for Battle 62-60. Travel on Hollins, 1-2 FT for NW 63-60.
16 or so secs Blake threads the needle with a pass to nothing but air and the fans in the front row on the sideline. Game, set, match. He may have played well for for 38 mins but it's the last 2 mins that counted.

I stopped reading after "NW".

This is actually the second time this year that he's done that. Did it against Indiana as well, which essentially sealed the win for the crappy Hoosiers.

Well Sampson didn't play well the whole game (5 TOs ). Rodney only played well for maybe a half. He was more aggressive at the end which was nice to see. Colton didn't play well. Hollins was the only Freshman who played well. And that pretty much leaves us at Hoff, who played great for 38 minutes and horribly the last two.

So it's all his fault?

Makes sense.

EDIT - Forgot Mbakwe. He's a beast.

Yes you can

At crunch time Hoff made two bad plays. You expect that from a freshman, not a senior. He is also killing us on defense. Tubby should have gone to a box/1 with Hollins covering Battle. They now are in a position that they need to win the three home games. Hoff has been a good player for the Gophers and he is playing out of position, but quit trying to cover his ass guys. If you asked Hoff he would tell you the same thing. "I made two bad plays that lost the game"

Agreed. I wish Tubby would have gone to a Box and 1 or Man-to-Man sooner with Hollins or Rodney on Battle. The zone made it way too easy for him.

I am not a great BB mind. Hoff didn't lose it for us. We had ALL their front line in trouble in the first half and our big men can't make it happen. The only player psu has is battle. Geez Tubby why don't you have someone picking him up at half court and sticking with him all the time (box and one). No one else from psu can beat you.

This is like the whole season-missed opportunities.

Does flash = a *&^!#*&^!#*&^!#*&^!#*&^!#*&^!# Blake hater ar just your average Gopher troll?

Well to answer your question I am a Gopher fan and I am simply pointing out most people on here defend Blake and bash and criticize everyone else. When Blake makes a mistake it's the same excuse, he was playing out of position, he has enough on his shoulders, or Blake's our only shooter. Which he may be but if mistakes are made or bad plays come about you defend him. I don't get it.

I certainly don't disagree that Blake made a few poor plays at the end, but that doesn't completely take away from how well he played before that. I simply disagree with the premise that he lost us the game, when he and Trevor were the only reason we were in the game to begin with.

So he made mistakes at the end, well sh*t happens in life, man. WTF do you want to do about it, crucify the guy or something? He's not immune from being criticized for a poor play (or plays), but to keep going on and on and on about it, what is the fricken point?

Because that is the PC thing to say. Not saying he wouldn't truly believe it, but he isn't going to throw his teammates under the bus either. Nobody played any perimeter D out there. It was pathetic. I'm not saying it wasn't partly his fault, but to put all the blame on him is dumb.

And I'm not sure if Tubby isn't getting on these guys in practice or if they just aren't fitting into the defensive system, but this team plays some of the most uninspired defense I have ever seen. You should never see a guy walking out to close out a shooter.

The title of this thread is Hoffbarber killed us. Well the last 2 minutes hmmm let me think............yep he killed us. I am replying to the posters who keep defending him. So if you're saying I am out of place it is actually you who is out of place according to the title of this thread. Isn't the point of having a message board to ask questions, state opinions, and have argumentative conversation? If you want a one sided point of view go read someones blog and comment there.
