Happy John Candy Day!

Cool to see this Pop up this morning

I thought it was really interesting that he got the gig with nobody realizing who his old man was. It wasn't a nepo casting.

With the beard he is the spitting image of Pavorotti/John Candy.

They actually were in Spielberg's 1941, but Candy's role was pretty small and I can't even recall if they shared any screen time.
Good to know.

I was thinking it would have been cool to see them in a flick like Bing Crosby and Bob Hope did will their Road to movies - I watched em with my Dad, he loved them, as he grew up on them.

Agreed. They also share a Second City Theater connection, though different troupes, Belushi/Chicago & Candy/Toronto.

This is tremendous news.

Pretty special given the relationship Colin Hanks' father had with Candy. Also I really enjoyed the documentary I saw if his about the rise and fall of Tower Records.

Sidebar - Ryan Reynolds seems to handle his celebrity very well, by doing lots of fun, diverse things. His buying a stake in Mint Mobile was genius and apparently very lucrative.

Just finished it and it was well worth the wait and watch -will rewatch it again

A few tidbits -

Funny story about him and Jack Nicholson during the filming on Spash,

Incredible amount of footage of him being interviewed.

Very honest about his weight/other health issues and the insights from those closest to him.

Learned numerous things about his upbringing, career and other endeavors which I wasn’t aware if before - I’ll leave those for your discovery.

This included an interview with a female reporter who for the life of her couldn’t pronounce “corollary”; my insomnia wants to tell me it is a young Jane Pauly, my middle school crush is yelling at me there’s no way a classy, sophisticated woman like Jane wouldn’t be able to utter such a pedestrian word - this debate may rage got hours - film at 11.

Watched the doc yesterday. Really well done and touching. Still remember where I was when I heard he passed away. Was a senior in high school and me and a few buddies were on our way to gorge ourselves silly on shrimp at Old Country Buffet on a Friday after school when we heard the news on KQ. Candy was a big part of my childhood. Spaceballs, Great Outdoors, Summer Rental, Uncle Buck, Cool Runnings, Planes, etc.
Got me to thinking about how often we'd go to the movies when I was a kid. My youngest is about the same age that I was when Spaceballs was released. His generation has nothing like that as far as movies are concerned. Everything's some animated garbage or one of dozens of formulaic, repetitive, highly-predictable super hero movies. Makes me kind of sad.

Today is the 75th Birthday for John Candy. Here he is just being John Candy, along with the clip from Peter Pan/Devine.
