I agree with almost everything you said except for the guy being a weirdo. I think a lot of people would be pissed if another person used a job that they did on their resume. I imagine the degree of anger is magnified when that person becomes successful/famous. I don't think the guy is being rational about the issue, but I think that's more human nature than being weird.
I'm not the 10th monk. ....
okay okay
I'm not even a monk
Listen, I could care less about what any of you all say about me or my character. I have a PhD in Economics
I'm trying to reconcile the two things I bolded. I cannot.
Im not actually in Philly...I live in the suburbs.
From the Reusse Blog on the Strib site. He confirmed with the Coach at CofC the Pitino was part of his staff during that season. The splitting hairs is weather only for two months should be included in the resume. Mainly a clarification.
In the interest of full disclosure - I am only 50% Norwegian. (the rest is Swedish and Dutch)
But I am 5'6" tall, and I am ornery - just ask my Boss.
My name isn't Bruce Kaupa.
And your the guy that made me choose PhillyGopher as a screen name (that and the fact that GopherinWynnewood didn't have that ring to it).

If you want to help and support your brother, I suggest you convince him to go to counseling. Seriously. Without discussing the merits of his complaint, the fact he's still so fully engaged in feeling wronged, after eight years? Problem. Maybe you are unable to see this, since you are so close to him. As if the position was a pivot point for the career trajectory of Scott or Mr. Pitino.
I've worked hard and just this morning I was talking to my wife about how lucky Mr. Pitino was to have the opportunities afforded him, and how great it must be have those opportunities align with your passion and talent. Mr. Pitino should not feel ashamed for the opportunity to mentor under his father and take advantage of the opportunities presented to him. I'll take some liberties with capitalization, as Scott has done. THIS IS HOW THE WORLD WORKS! You and Scott both can reflect on such opportunities presented to you in your own lives.
Step outside the world of academia, Scott.
We should all be proud of what we have done and stand up for what we believe in. A message board may not be the right place to air our issues but sometimes people just want to be recognized for what they have accomplished. For Scott that is his time as an assistant college coach that someone else is claiming as their work. How would you feel after you put your heart and soul into your job for someone else to take the credit and advance in your field? I am sure you would be mad and try to convince the boss it was your work. That is all he is trying to do. He got his doctorate after many years of hard work at University of South Carolina (how about reading a little more than a joke about klingon) and sacrificed time with family to try to get into coaching. Scott is a good man who tries to take help his friends, students and family and is a good uncle. He has even volunteered his time to help at kids basketball camps around the country. However, he has struggled to get where he is and to have a bunch of people degrade him for wanting the recognition he deserves instead of allowing someone else to take the credit is wrong. How about a little understanding instead of making a joke out of someone who has worked hard to get where they are and didn't have it given to them instead of automatically supporting someone just cause they got hired as a coach somewhere. I know some troll will have a dumb comment about what I have posted so I will go ahead and tell you, yes I am his brother. I have seen him struggle and drive from one side of the state to the other for coaching opportunities. If everyone of you worked and tried as hard as he has in your chosen field then you can cast a stone. I am just saying give credit where credit is due.
lol, Richard was an admin asst to the coach at CofC for a few months after college, before getting the Northeastern job. It wasn't a full year, but technically based on their fiscal calendar he probably was hired and/or did start near the end of the 2004-05 fiscal year.
Either way, if I'm trying to lay out his history it's easier to put "2004-05" for C of C when also listing "2005-06" for Northeastern.. otherwise the dates look strange - and it's so irrelevant.
Absolutely zero to see here.
BTW, is anyone praising Richard Pitino for being an administrative assistant at Charleston? No. It's irrelevant. Some guy with two names is being a weirdo, that's all.
One has to ask, 1) what was the intent?, and 2) what did he have to gain? I can totally understand a scenario where this was nothing more than a clerical error that was never fixed. He has next-to-nothing to gain by lying about drying dishes at Denny's ten years ago for a year's duration vs two months. Compounding the issue is the fact that he just listed the "season" - which makes total sense. If a player only plays the first 6 games because of a devastating injury, 10 years later he says he was part of the '02-'03 team. Same goes for a manager, etc. It's "sports vernacular" not meant to denote duration of time.
This is such a non story. George O'Leary (or however you spell it) has much more to gain and the intent was to fool people. I will give him the benefit of the doubt.
