First of all, where was this team all year?? That game was awesome. The sideline was electrified all game. You could tell they wanted the win badly. Congrats to Weber and the rest of the seniors. I only wish there were more gopher fans to cheer them on. I loved hearing the Hawkeye fans try to save face after the game by saying "It doesn't matter, we're still going to a bowl game." It's a long drive back to Iowa City. :pig:

Second, I know a guy (fairly high up at the U) who knows someone in the AD's office. They claim Brady Hoke will be announced as HC on Monday. I wouldn't bet the farm on it, but other people have posted information based on less, so I figured I would share it anyway.

Go Gophers!

Hoke does not get me excited. I am sorry but he doesn't. I like Golden (since we are not getting Leach). That is who I would want.

Ya, and I heard from a guy that he knew a guy that told the guy that he was the guy that socked the other guy in the eye.

I don't disagree. I was on the Leach bandwagon all along. Maroon and Gold pirate flags would look great!

For tonight I prefer Horton too. Hoke? I'm pretty luke warm to him, but would be better than I expected.

Don't get Dr. Don started on rumors. He is likely to tell you a story about his son and Dr. Don's checkbook.

I heard from a guy that knows a guy that you can't read. Clearly stated that it was rumor. Doesn't mean it isn't worth sharing.

After that false info, my son has lost all rights to my checkbook. But he can buy wallets at WalMart and join me in a really fun job.

What the hell do you think mine was?

Hoke is the one thing that could have put a downer on this day/night-thanks for that.

Great game. Awesome job by Horton and Co. to hold the ship together. In a different time and place, I'd be up for giving him a shot. We can't afford to at this time though. I also feel great for Weber. He endured a lot of crap in 5 years and did it with dignity.

As for Hoke, I like him. Let's me honest, Hoke, Golden and Calhoun are all pretty much equal parts promise and risk. Saying you 'love' one while the other 'does nothing for you' is a bit silly IMO, unless you are an avid follower of one of those teams. Of the 3 I like Hoke the most based on the fact that he's won 2 different places and has Midwest recruiting ties.

Why is Golden considered a bigger deal than Hoke, other than he's considered a potential replacement for Paterno? Hoke turned Ball State around, beat Calhoun, and played Patterson to a close loss this year. Golden lost a game to a crappy team last week. Why should I be more enthused about Golden? Mullen is likely the best candidate, but if it comes down to Hoke and Golden, why are people pining so hard for the him other than his name would sound cool with our team? I still don't understand this. It seems too similar to the Tim Brewster/Mack Brown connection.

If you asked the people who say that Hoke does nothing for them, and those people answered honestly, most would tell you that they have never seen a game coached by Hoke. You like Harbaugh's approach? Then you like Hoke's approach also. Just like Calhoun, Mullen, and Golden, Hoke is a good coach.

Dr Don

Seems as though we have devoloped a relationship. Any chance I can borrow your checkbook.

With sincere regards

I'd be fine with Hoke. Only reason I prefer Golden or Mullen is that they are a bit younger. But Hoke knows what he's doing.

I don't love Hoke but I think he's a good candidate. He was an assistant at Michigan for eight(?) years so he knows the Big Ten. His overall record isn't great but his teams have showed improvement in every year with the exception being his second year at Ball State. He led Ball State to a 12-1 record which can't be easy. In his first season at SDSU, he doubled their win total from the previous year. They now have seven win this year likely eight after tonight. Their losses are to Missouri by 3, BYU by 3, TCU by 5, and Utah by 4. Those are some pretty darn good football teams. I also feel that this would be a "dream job" for Hoke other than maybe Michigan. He sounds like he's selling himself hard to the U. Other teams like Stanford and Michigan have been rumored to be interested in him so he must be doing something right. He may not be Mullen but he's every bit as good as Sumlin, Golden, and Calhoun, imo.

So Maturi was riding around the tailgate lot this morning, and spoke with someone in our group. He didn't say a name, but said a candidate was flying in and if all goes well, he will be announced Monday. Knowing that, the Hoke rumor seems somewhat legit.

What do you mean long drive back to Iowa City?

More like long drive back to Apple Valley, Eagan, Rosemount, St Paul, Richfield and Bloomington.
If you talked with more than a few Iowa fans at the game today there were an awful lot of them that live here in the Twin Cities. There were not a ton of out of town Hawkeyes fans really that made the trek up. There were a few but a lot more of them live here that were at the game.
The Tobies cinnamon rolls are hot, the beer is cold and were just getting started getting warmed back up. What a fun win, seeing the Pig after all of the letdowns was just as sweet as 1998 when we were in Iowa City and brought him back home. Kinnick North my butt, there were a good amount of Hawkeye fans but nothing like the Metrodome.

If you compare Hoke's and Golden's recent records, Golden's record, IMO, is more impressive. Temple has been horrible for a lot longer than SDSU. And Hoke is not setting the world on fire at SDSU like Golden has at Temple.

No way was Maturi riding around telling some clown that a candidate was flying in. If this is the case then why the hell did they hire a search firm to keep it confidential? I call B.S. !!!

Golden took a terrible program at Temple, yes. In his third year they won 9 games. They are 8-4 so far this year in his fourth year.

Hoke took over an SDSU program that averaged three wins per year in the three years before he was there. They have now won seven likely eight with a much tougher schedule than Temple, imo. I like Hoke over Golden because he has coached in the Big Ten before and his team has shown up against major opponents. I respect your opinion but I feel both candidates are very equal with a slight edge to Hoke.

So our AD dropped the biggest announcement of the season on your tailgate?

I am just happy they are going after a college HC rather than some tight ends coach some where. If Hoke is the guy then so be it, let's give the people involved in the search the benefit of the doubt whoever they hire. As long as Maturi doesn't have the final say.

Hoke? Looks like he's capable of putting a team together than can get a top 70 recruiting class and coach the players up to be about the 35th best team in the country?

sounds like 3 and 5 in the big ten. almost sounds like Mason II

at least I'll be able to get tickets to a lightly attended minor bowl most years to see the gophers

If I'm in the administration and my AD is telling me he has to go to his plan B, I might fix my AD before letting him execute a plan B
