Great Game. And Another Coaching Rumor.

I am just happy they are going after a college HC rather than some tight ends coach some where. If Hoke is the guy then so be it, let's give the people involved in the search the benefit of the doubt whoever they hire. As long as Maturi doesn't have the final say.

Maturi has the final say. It is his job. Let's give him the benefit of the doubt and hope he learned from past mistakes. After all, we have no other choice. We can't hold it against the next coach that he was hired by a boob.

Maturi DOES NOT have the final say.

Hoke? Looks like he's capable of putting a team together than can get a top 70 recruiting class and coach the players up to be about the 35th best team in the country?

sounds like 3 and 5 in the big ten. almost sounds like Mason II

at least I'll be able to get tickets to a lightly attended minor bowl most years to see the gophers

If I'm in the administration and my AD is telling me he has to go to his plan B, I might fix my AD before letting him execute a plan B

Tressel? Sounds like a guy who has never made it above 1-AA. He'll never be able to succeed in the Big Ten. Winning a 1-AA NC is a great accomplishment but it is just a different level.

Lots of know-it-alls. I would love to hear your plan for landing Harbaugh. And, how do you know Hoke isn't Plan A?

The lack of rationality/knowledge from those ranting about the hiring process is hilarious.

More like long drive back to Apple Valley, Eagan, Rosemount, St Paul, Richfield and Bloomington.
If you talked with more than a few Iowa fans at the game today there were an awful lot of them that live here in the Twin Cities. There were not a ton of out of town Hawkeyes fans really that made the trek up. There were a few but a lot more of them live here that were at the game.
The Tobies cinnamon rolls are hot, the beer is cold and were just getting started getting warmed back up. What a fun win, seeing the Pig after all of the letdowns was just as sweet as 1998 when we were in Iowa City and brought him back home. Kinnick North my butt, there were a good amount of Hawkeye fans but nothing like the Metrodome.

Ditto that from here. There was nothing like the RV days back in the dome. Even the Iowa fans that were there were generally well behaved (or backed down with a few stares). Obviously they were in-town Iowans that realized Iowa ain't all that. While there were a good number of Iowa jerseys, the atmosphere wasn't the same as in the bad-old-days. This is not Kinnick North, and after this win, I don't think we have to worry about that for awhile. We just have to deal with the fact that since the Twin Cities is a far more attractive place to live we are going to have far more Iowans that move here than Minnesotans that move to Iowa. Nothing more, nothing less.

Joel's two loves are Wisconsin and the MAC. He tried all his old Wisconsin assistant coach tie-ins, now he tries Hoke from the MAC. Jeezuz he sure has a narrow view of the world.

The best part of beating Iowa at TCF this year, is they have come back here next year, the days of Kinnick North are over.

Tressel: Lovely use of the availability bias.

Harbaugh: Never mentioned him

Lack of Rationality: using past performance as one input to predict future performance isn't irrational. Did I miss on Hoke's 70/35? Was 3 and 5 in the BigTen too harsh for a 35th ranked team?

Plan A/Plan B: Hedged by using "If". Others have suggested Hoke is Plan B. As I pointed out once, we don't even know if we're Hoke's Plan A or Plan B. Full disclosure, I'm not a fan of plan Bs.

I'm not a Masonite, but I thought his overall impact on the program was a net positive. I didn't intend the Mason comment as a dig (just in case someone took it that way).

Always enjoyed my trips to the bowls with the gophs. I'm a fan of the team. I'd love to have the gophs in a BCS bowl. But, the lightly attended bowls are nice because you can get closer to field level and the team. I didn't intend "lightly attended bowl" as a dig either. Having the chance to go to any bowl beats no bowl.

Lastly, I've never ranted against hiring Hoke. If Hoke is the man, I just won't expect him to automagically become a Saban or Meyer or Spurrier or...I will temper my expectations in the early years and hope he develops into a consensus top 20 coach over several years.

Great game. Awesome job by Horton and Co. to hold the ship together. In a different time and place, I'd be up for giving him a shot. We can't afford to at this time though. I also feel great for Weber. He endured a lot of crap in 5 years and did it with dignity.

As for Hoke, I like him. Let's me honest, Hoke, Golden and Calhoun are all pretty much equal parts promise and risk. Saying you 'love' one while the other 'does nothing for you' is a bit silly IMO, unless you are an avid follower of one of those teams. Of the 3 I like Hoke the most based on the fact that he's won 2 different places and has Midwest recruiting ties.

Your definition of winning is two seven win seasons and one wow year in 8 years versus crappy competition? As long as he continues on his career 45-50 path, that is close enough to winning?

Perhaps replace 'winning' with 'rebuilding.' The point is he has succeeded two places, Ball State and SDSU, giving me more confidence then I have in Calhoun for example. Either way, with the mid-major coaches, they all have upside and uncertainty. The fact that Hoke's done it multiple places and has Midwest ties makes him seem a bit safer to me.

Tressell won before Ohio State at a different level but his track record was winning. Hoke's track record is losing.

I could have done this well. We should have known this would be the result when we heard that Hoke was really selling it hard to Maturi last week. First Brewster now Hoke, Joel just can't resist a good sales pitch.

Rumors and rumors of rumors are the things that...

Dave Mona does best! If you think you hate the current rumor, just wait until Dave Mona is done with you. You will love the rumor that you mistakenly think that you used to hate. Hate...love...love...hate: it's all the same when you have Dave Mona as your special assistant a.d. Some of you who are so bound and determined to object to and hate who ever the new coach is will be "monaized" before you know it. You will jump on the band wagon and you won't want anyone to question anything the new coach says, thinks or does. You will soon be a prime example of a "monaized" P. R. project.

Dave Mona is going to sell you...don't worry about that! ; 0 )
