Gov. Dayton takes aim at early 11 a.m. college football kickoffs

This thread obviously has a lot to do with Gopher football, but all political arguing either way will be deleted. Please keep this on the subject matter at hand. Thanks.
I don't understand. GH has decided this topic deserves special treatment? Are you guys politicians? Of all the stuff I've read over the years here, this might be the most ridiculous.

Why does college football schedule 11am and 2:30pm cst games anyways? NFL is at Noon at 3:30pm. IMHO it is much more fan friendly. Is there an actual reason why they go an hour earlier than the NFL schedule? Or is it just always the way it has been done type of thing.

If they could shorten college games I think it could happen. Right now they do 11am and about 2:40pm for the college games, and sometimes that still isn't enough time as they overlap. In the NFL it is 12pm and 3:25pm and that is usually enough time. I'm guessing the networks want to prevent games overlapping as much as possible.

As it is now, you'd have to go 12pm, 3:45pm, 7:30pm, and then after 11pm for the late games. The west coast teams will not like that because that pushes some of their games even later.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. I'm talking about the CFB scheduling, not the MN Gov.

They can fit an extra game into the schedule if they start earlier. 11 is probably a good time late in the season with how low the sun is by 3.

At least he cares about the Gophers. The only other Gov. who was a big Gopher fan was Arnie Carlson.

Yep, former Minnesota governors like Floyd B. Olson (a little trophy by the name of Floyd of Rosedale is named after him), Wendell Anderson, Tim Pawlenty, and former U.S. Senators like Walter Mondale and Hubert Humphrey let alone a host of other former MN Governors & U.S. Senators (Republican and Democrat) didn't give a rat's arse about the Gophers/U of M. Please get a clue, Ruppert.

Agree with the Governor....Noon or later so I can get a wee bit more twisted up Tailgating before heading in...

while he is at it, let's ban the 24 hour clock and just make it 100 hours. All games should start after the 50th hour.

Speaking of "getting a clue", Mondale and Humphrey were never Governors...

Did get your point though.

I think it was Arne that was holding Pawlenty's family hostage until he signed the stadium bill. I thought it was a bit extreme.

My bad. I knew that, but wrote the post kind of hastily. Thanks for the correction. Will edit my original reply.
