Gophers-Wolverines Game/Postgame Thread

You guys think there is any chance the NIT doesn't take us?

I would be shocked if they don't, but I haven't followed it closely at all.

And why, of all things, do we wait until the last 3 games of season to start showing improvements, not doing ridiculous AAU substitutions, playing with heart etc... AND it was so satisfying to see Ralph Softsen III finish his career on the bench where he belongs.

Bummed about the loss, the game was definitely in their hands. A couple of things: we have a young team who can only grow, props to Dre Hollins who had a great game and showed amazing composure. They showed the clip from when we beat Indiana in 2008 and Tubby's reaction...I remember watching that game and seeing how much passion he had back then. Unfortunately, I have not seen that sort of passion from Tubby all year. A young team needs a strong and passionate leader to get ahead. Bring back the love of the game, Tubby, and perhaps you will get more out of your young team. Players, you rocked it out. Coaches, show a little more love.

Did you expect anything different?

I don't blame anyone for coming on late and wanting to vent about the gophs blowing another late lead. I know sometimes its cathartic to have a place to come express my frustrations. Better than breaking my remote anyway. No one said every post has to be optimistic and we can't complain about blown leads right?

Austin Hollins fouling out was also huge, but there is always next year

I agree. The potential is there, but there are glaring issues with coaching. I take solace in knowing that we have a few good players who will return next year, and maybe the coaching staff will return with a little bit of passion.

I'd say 60/40 we're in. It's much tougher for the BCS teams to get in than 5 years ago, but I'd say we're only behind NW in the B1G.

I think NW and Iowa get in. We have a shot, we'll just have to see.

its on Tubby again. a 9-point lead with 4.27 to play. No excuse for losing this one, again. We are one stud player away. If they had not transferred we would have been able to win at least 7 more games. I also say that if Bo Ryan coached this team the Gophers would have 11 BIG 10 wins.....

Hope you're correct. I'd like to see this team play a couple more games. I like how Beilein has his team run that high screen continuously to get Burke loose all the time. Hope the Gophers start doing more of that with Andre Hollins. He can be really dangerous. Tough foul call on Austin to put him out of the game. That hurt.

Good: Nice effort by an undermanned team against a superior opponent
Bad: Another excruciating loss only made worse by having to listen to Gus Johnson poop all over himself for 2+ hours. I know some of you kids seem to think he's the bees knees, but I can't stand him.

Good showing tonight; hopefully we'll get the chance for some more games in the NIT. Very optimistic about Hollins (x2) and Elliason. Hopefully, Rodney comes back and Joe can develop an outside shot.

Agreed, It is so frustrating watching us go into a passive stall for the remainder of the game at 3:00 minutes. Talking about killing momentum.

This one is not on Tubby. He had the guys playing confidently. Some stuff happened in those last two minutes. They had to hit two clutch threes, the refs called a terrible foul on Austin and then it sure looked like Andre got fouled on his last second shot. We had chances and could not get it done. I'm proud of this squad and though I have been ticked at Tubby many times this year I thought he finally got the ship righted here at the end. This is a big motivator into next year- these guys know they are close to being pretty good and we have guard play heading into next year in the two Hollins and Welch. Guard play will win you a lot of ball games.

I sure would like to see Tubby work on some ball screen action next year like Michigan works for Burke. Andre could be terrific.

Well, there it is in all likelihood. Good effort for most of it from the kids. I'm excited to watch Dre develop.

+1 tough loss. Collapsed a bit down the stretch. Need to go win the NIT and be ready for next year.

I am proud of the boys tonight. They played well enough to win and Tubby took it away from them with that absurd clock burning offense that this team isn't talented enough to run. How many times does he have to bang his head on the wall before he realizes it hurts?

need to learn the art of drawing fouls.

michigan does it, wisky does it..

like the 5th on Austin.. hardaway jumps away from Austin with arms up and back arched.. automatic whistle.. what a joke.. the big10 is morphing into duke at its worst. not sure if teams go into 'hightower-mode' but Austin and EE had at least 7 'staged' fouls called against them..

also need to look at the scoreboard with a lead down the stretch and tell the team the final points needed to win.. we need to watch our score and not their score in the last five minutes.. ex: 'if we hit 62, we win.. "

and what about andre on with :15 to go?? wait until 6 seconds and then begin a move from 1/2 court? all we needed was one FT. what happened to the lost art of the pump fake/fall-down?

I thought he started too late also.

This is an important post. Can anyone imagine Tubby reacting like he did for the Hoffarber play in reaction to anything now? The passion and energy are not there. Even Tubby supporters I've talked to here in Indy agree with that. He needs to locate some energy and passion in the off season or he's going to be short changing this promising group of players.

Tubby was yelling and waving his arms for Andre to start his drive earlier.

Looked to me like he was yelling at EE to get him out of the way so Dre could go 1 on 1....I may be wrong.

Could be. Either he wanted some movement earlier in that set.

You're a little late to the party to start some interweb fights tonight minngg.

Who have I fought with? You have thin skin? I state my opinion. I don't fight.

Nice that you did not show up after the Northwesten win to complain about Tubby - now after a loss you run your mouth on GH - Pathetic!

I don't think Tubby needs blame for everything bad that happens at the end of games. I think it is partially our youth but I do think a small part of it is on Tubby. We just look so lost against a zone at times.

Youth? Burke is a Freshman...Hardaway, Morgan and Smotryz are Sophs...youth has nothing to do with it...it's all about execution which comes from coaching.
