Gophers QB Drake Lindsey Arrested on Underage Drinking, Fake ID Charges

Whyowa can count? I don't believe they can decipher the numbers needed to determine if a speeding ticket is warranted. They just cannot be capable.
Interestingly it was a State Trooper in the middle of nowhere I-O-W-A at 1:30 AM about a mile off I-35 as we were heading to the funeral of a Mrs. Billd dear friend the next morning. I was still driving like on the interstate because who other than some corn and a few hogs would notice my speed at that time and place?

It did not help that I was doing the Midwest back-road zig-zag getting to our destination...go east for 5 miles...south for 15 miles...east again for 12 miles...and so on to the destination. He did not appreciate my explanation for our speed, location, or route to destination.

Roll the film out 20 years and he might have thought we were on a meth run staying off the main roads.

Anywho, busted was busted and I slowed down enough to last almost another 35+ years. Drake should do the same.

'Here's another kid with a fake ID' or ... 'Here's McLovin, a 25 year-old Hawaiian organ donor'

Agree having the fake is a larger offense than the underage consumption. Although my kid's friends who have gotten caught with them have just gotten them taken away, I don't think they were booked into jail. I'm guessing the cops have some discretion there maybe?
Word is he was drinking at one spot and went to a different spot and upon trying to enter the club, the bouncer notice he was intoxicated and had a fake ID. The bouncer alerted the police and he was taken to jail.

Say what you want, but character is character. If he was a C, I’d strip him. If I was paying his NIL, I’d pull it. Stupid, stupid decision as someone setting an example for team in the B1G. I really don’t care about your bad personal decisions when you were 20 where your only consequence was disappointing your parents. He’s being paid a lot of money and there are high expectations. He deserves some serious consequences. Sitting out a series? . . . give me a break.

Dang that seems a tad harsh.

Found a backup's family member

Message #8 from Billy and already in take no prisoners mode!

My fake ID was Canadian. Manitoba. My girlfriend's posse had a hookup. Good times.

I found out after the fact my daughter got caught with one in a bar and her college friends had to beg the bouncer not to call the cops. It helps to be pretty.

Drake? IDGAF. He'll probably need to do some community service etc. which is fair. In some sense, I'm glad the guy likes to have a good time and is not like the weirdo backup QB in North Dallas Forty.

Your sarcasm is pointless. It sounds like your kids are doing great, congratulations.

Like most parents, I want my kids to do great for themselves in the end, and also make fewer mistakes and hurt fewer people along the way.
See here is the thing. Kids are growing up in a very different world than the one I grew up in. I was responding to your comments about setting an example and all that. Considering that, I didn't drink in high school AT ALL and that was at a time when underage drinking was actually more prevalent than it is now. But that is where things stop being black and white. When I was that age, the legal drinking age was 19 and there wasn't a cell phone camera to record every action and reaction kids make. You may not realize this but underage drinking and fake IDs are now standard behavior and equipment for younger college kids. In my opinion, turning an underage drinking incident into some sort of lesson in the moral high ground, suggestions of parental failings, etc. is... dare I say... a bit out of touch.

So, yes, I did throw some sarcasm your way but I feel your comments are within that 'out of touch' category and that brings out the sarcasm in me. Actually, even within the current culture of underage drinking and fake IDs I feel it was a poor choice for a D1 football captain from a major market to use a fake ID (even if he was within a couple weeks of his 21st birthday). Something should (and will) be done to address it. I just don't think it is an example of a big deal, moral failing, parental failing, etc.

No you wouldn't. He IS being paid a lot of money, that is specifically why he will get spoken to and it will go away. No one cares about this stuff. Not a big deal.

As big as football is in Arkansas, I am surprised that he didn't think anyone would recognize him.

Does fining him $5,000 for making a stupid mistake in this situation make sense? Just curious. What does sitting him out a series do?
Good point. Really couldn't fine players in the past but maybe that is where things are with NIL now

These days character apparently means nothing so maybe he should get a ribbon for being just like the other kids with fake ID's and minor consumption tickets. Stupid behavior on his part being in the position he is in. Drink at home if you must and toss the fake ID.

Yep underage drinking and fake IDs are totally a new trend these days.

Both sides can be true. It was a stupid decision on his part. Can't put yourself in situations like that even if it isn't a big deal.

But also having a mugshot and subsequently shared by many major sports media outlets for a fake ID and drinking (which a lot of college kids do) is ridiculous.

I've seen a few postings on Facebook about this situation and not just from regional posters either. One from something called the "Daily Caller" and a sports meme posting. Fascinating that the story seems to have gotten bigger than you would expect.

It's just beyond ne that anyone thinks this is some huge deal or major character flaw.

Kid is 20 (a few weeks short of 21), made a mistake, will pay a small price (appropriate for a small mistake) and life will go on. I'd be hugely surprised if he is being looked down upon by any of his teammates.

When I was 18, legal age was that. After every game, most of the football (or hockey) team was at the bar together.

A fine would have to be a part of a CBA, or written into the NIL contract.

His punishment is limited to the same ones that existed prior to NIL: sitting out, etc.
