Gophers QB Drake Lindsey Arrested on Underage Drinking, Fake ID Charges

PJ will throw the Row the Boat book at him. Gotta keep the standards high in Minnesota.

I hope he was drinking a good IPA!

In a vacuum, I'd agree. But there's gotta be like at least 20-30 players on the team right now thinking, "man, if I did that I'd be off the roster by now" etc. and so I think a whole bunch of eyes will be on PJ.
Most players are thinking more like "man I hope this doesn't cause our starting QB to have to miss any game time".

All he has to do is say he's transferring to micheatagain and it all goes away. They'll probably give him a fake national title to go with it.

that's because if you went drinking with AK and asked him to pass you a beer, he may throw it at you at 100mph
Yep, makes no sense

that’s what I was thinking. I’m holding out judgement til someone tells me what he was drinking. Can’t be worse than Blatz.

I think it's unlikely anyone would be removed from the team solely because of something like this. If they were removed, it's likely there were previous problems/issues and this was the last straw.

And honestly, if it was a 3rd string QB or something, this is hardly a story and the thread is maybe 10 posts long at most.

I wouldn’t be surprised if some local animosity for Lindsey was at play. He’s in his hometown of Fayetteville Arkansas and his family is well known. If he was playing for the Razorbacks he’s driven home by the cops, but he’s not and so he gets driven to the precinct instead.

Agree having the fake is a larger offense than the underage consumption. Although my kid's friends who have gotten caught with them have just gotten them taken away, I don't think they were booked into jail. I'm guessing the cops have some discretion there maybe?
I'm not sure they can even define discretion because Arkansas is another state where you only need a GED to qualify for the job. If Drake was being a douche he deserved it, but if this was anything else it was unnecessary.

Fleck's made a big deal about the culture and the expectations he holds the team to off the field. That makes it harder to brush it under the rug and give him a meaningless punishment. If you make him run a couple of extra laps and he starts the first game next season it's hard to keep selling the story that your culture is different from everyone else.

I'm sure 90% of the team has done something similar but most of them don't get caught. Doing this in a city where a lot of people are mad at you and there's an incentive to make you look bad was a particularly poor choice.

PJ has clearly been doing something right to have such a good team culture and so few issues like this. I’m sure he will strike the right balance

People have really different attitudes about character. If one of my kids was caught drinking underage and using a fake ID, that would be a major character issue for me. So I think it's a major issue when it involves a team leader, too.

I am not a huge drinker, but if my college aged kid got an underage consumption and a fake ID, I think I would laugh at him and say be smarter.

If he was driving or doing something different.... much different story.

I respect what you’re saying but I don’t agree with it. I bet I drank with many of you underage, at Sallys’s, Blarney, BLoco, etc. It’s not that everyone does but it is a huge subset of the student population that does.

He wasn’t planning on getting caught - it’s not clear he was even flagrant about it. It just happens. And getting caught doing something so minor is better than some speeding tickets I’ve seen reported.

This isn’t assault or DUI or guns. It’s nothing at all. It’s off-season. No punishment. Just acknowledge it privately and then with the team and never think about it again.

I think your idea of character and mine are apparently very, very different. I always tried to be realistic with my kids and I was pretty careful about picking my parenting hills to die on. In my experience, given the percentage of kids that have fake IDs and drink (smaller than it used to be but still probably beyond 99%), I always felt that getting bent out of shape with stuff like this was a great way to ensure I'd be the last person they'd come to when something like this inevitably happened.

Why would there be animosity. I didn't think Arkansas offered him. Not noted on 247

Haven't yet read what others wrote. I'll do that momentarily.

My take: who cares? Literally everyone drinks under age. I did. My kids did. My kids' friends did. Etc. And tons have fakes. (I know my eldest did. And so did his friends.)

I really couldn't possibly care less. Unless he has a problem (which there's no evidence of), in which case I hope he gets help. ...But as I understand things, this is a case of Drake-is-a-normal-kid-doing-normal-kid-things.
