With the 2013 class drawing to a close, the U is hosting the prospects for the 2014 recruiting class next month. I was curious if anyone knew where to find a list of the players expected to attend. Is it mostly regional players or are they bringing in guys from across the country?

Just added more visitors to the #Minnesota Junior Day list including one from Alabama. Find out who here:

It was a pay article. Looks like at least one player from Alabama though.

Yea that's how I found about it was on Mn preps (rivals), but I refuse to pay 100 bucks a year. lol

I read a while ago that Justyn Oliphant from tx and Kam Lott from FL will be attending. I wonder if the Alabama kid is KJ Maye's brother.

I have been tracking Minnesota Preps picking up junior day invites. Will be posting later this month.

Is anyone familiar with past junior days? Are we getting a decent amount of out of state talent coming in compared to past years? I've read it is becoming a smaller more intimate affair instead of a cattle call for potential prospects.

Good Question, and I don't have the answer. My best guess would be that it is very encouraging to have these 3 up here during the winter junior day! Let's face it it's cold AF outside and these kids are making the trip on their own dime for a 1 day event (that means their interested).

On a side note (& I don't know this as fact) but it seems like this staff has really started to hit Alabama hard the past couple of years where as other staffs kind of ignored it. I think that it's really smart because they develop a lot of talent down there but it's not as greatly coveted as a Florida or Texas. It seems like they are concentrating on Alabama and North Carolina as there "niche," states and it appears to be a smart move, i.e. Harbison, Maye, and Jones.

Kamren Lott - FL - DB ---- http://rivals.yahoo.com/minnesota/football/recruiting/player-Kamren-Lott-140179 -- Already holds a Minnesota Offer.

Nick Holman - AL - LB ---- http://rivals.yahoo.com/minnesota/fo...-Holman-136105 --- No Offer yet.

Junior day invites for Minnesota as of this evening. Other than Jones, Ragnow, and Stelter who have offers from Minnesota already, it is hard to comment on top recruits. Both Woods and Triplett attended Iowa Junior Day. Hassenauer, Behr, Gordon, and Banham were invited and attended the US Army National Combine. I am guessing FCS offers should be going out shortly following NSD. It should be an interesting class to watch!

Great detail Vames, much appreciated.

Fantastic detail as always. Really excited for this class. I've heard nothing but anticipation for these guys based on the large amount of D1 and D1AA athletes compared to past years of recruitment.

per Sid:

• Saturday, Gophers football is having one of its junior days, and to give a good indication how Kill and his staff are thought of by athletes all over the country, 120 junior high school players from 10 states, including Florida and California, will spend three hours with Kill and then with their respective position coaches. The athletes pay their own way here to take part in the program.

Go Gophers!!

So much for being a smaller more intimate affair. I don't know that it pays to invite every marginal MN kid.

A free opportunity to scout and see prospects work with each other with you coaching them? Yeah, I'd say it's worth it. Break the 120 kids down to 12 position groups and that's easily manageable.

I thought junior day was more of like a recruiting visit, not like a camp. Like a meet and greet with coaches, check out facilities that kind of thing.

bump. great info in this thread. thank you to the information hounds.

Thats why they have official visits and unofficial visits. This allows us to see and work out a large group of kids all at one time. Perhaps find some diamonds in the rough here in our home state.

I'm happy we are finally bringing in a larger group of in-state kids to take a look at.

Pretty sure we've always brought in a large group of in-state kids. I'm saying you don't work these kids out at junior day you are trying to impress them and build relationships with them. The trend in college football is that these groups are getting smaller as you try to bring in kids you are already pretty interested in. I read Oklahoma tries to bring in like 25 kids. They don't work out the kids on junior days, they do that during summer camps. I think we are better off inviting the instate kids we are already pretty sure we want and then whatever out of state kids that are willing to visit.

Oklahoma also has the luxury of being far more selective than we can.

Yeah, but that doesn't mean we need 100+ kids from MN to visit. Takes away extra attention from kids that you've already identified as players in my opinion.

Guaranteed that the out of state kids along with the higher end in state kids are receiving the most attention!

I personally like the idea of having a ton of kids. It creates competition and it gives the coaches the ability to evaluate their talent level and motivation.
