"I actually interviewed for this job a year ago but didn’t get it. I coached with the Detroit Lions this past year."

Man do I wish he would have been hired last year! I know he hasn't coached us yet, but last year couldn't have gone much worse offensively and we'd have more continuity going into this year.
 

Thanks again for the interview and update with Coach Horton. I interpreted this quote of his: "" look forward to getting my hands dirty..."" as no bitching and moaning, whining and complaining, let's do something about it instead of just talk. Thanks again, GL.
 

One thing that gives me hope is Horton knows Davis, Cosgrove, Lee, etc from their Wisconsin days. They've avoid the uncomfortable get to know ya phase and he'll have more credibility with the other coaches and maybe the players.

Gopher Lady goes out and gets an interview with Coach Horton. That's what she does. No one else get these sit downs, not even Sid. And when she does, she reports it as it goes down. No direct quote without the question. In this day and age how refreshing. No opinion, no agenda, just a devotion to the Gophers. She claims she does it as a hobby, but she is no amatuer.

Boys and Girls when the message she brings is already good news, she is hailed. When she get's an interview with SH before the signing day and it breaks the other way, she is asked to take it down. By going out and doing what she does, she drove the SH story down the page and out of sight. Is everybody happy now?

We have a great messenger, sometimes the message is not good.
 


No i'm not happy. I come to the site so I can see SH at the top of the front page and now that's not happening.
 

Seems like a very level headed dude, who has great experience in the game. I like the hire, not saying he was necessarily the absolute best guy that could have been gotten, but I think he will be a calming influence on the offense with the experience he will bring. I anticipate seeing more consistency from them this season.
 

GH: 'The offense struggled a lot the last year especially with scoring touchdowns. In the short time you’ve been here and have watched game film, what are the key changes you’d want to make?'

Horton: 'This is a lot of guys’ fourth offensive coordinator, so I want to see what we did well last year and try to do that again. Let’s figure out who we are and what we can be. Come up with a good plan and get better every day. It won’t be for a lack of effort. I look forward to getting my hands dirty and working with the guys to get better.'

I really like the fact that he has thought about the fact that the Gopher players have been through several different offensive systems. My take on his comments are that he's insinuating that the offensive has been too complicated, and he plans to pare it down to a few things that will work well, and then drill those things till they are second nature. I think this is exactly what the Gopher offense as a whole needs (it will also ease Gray's transition into the starting role).

Don't worry, Kuato - I was planning on doing a countdown, day by day updates, until SH goes to USC or wherever he ends up. Then it will not only be one article on the homepage, he can be all 10! Lol! :cool02:
 



If we can go all season without having to call back to back timeouts I will be impressed.
